For the eighth straight game, Kerman has once again claimed victory. However, this victory was much sweeter. For Kerman, ranked number four in division four at the time, was playing the Liberty-Madera Hawks who was ranked fifth in division four. They both can in with the same record of 7-1 and have been racking up running yards. The Pag Meter even had it being a close game, his prediction being Kerman 30, Liberty 28. And from the start, it looked like it would be a close game.

On Kerman’s first drive, a miscue with Kerman’s special teams occurred with a bad snap, leading to a quick Liberty Touchdown. Kerman would end up responding with a Christopher Acosta Touchdown, just to lead to a 68-yard touchdown run by Kaleb Roth. By the end of the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be a close game, with it being a 13 all game.
After Liberty had a 20 yard run for a touchdown, Kerman flipped the switch that has propelled them all season. Kerman would respond with 22 unanswered points, all with their dominant running game. At the half, Kerman was up 35-20.
Liberty put up a good drive leading to another 20-yard Touchdown, but Kerman would respond once again with another Touchdown run by Christopher Acosta. Then the game got out of hand when Chambers with so much time in the pocket found Conner Skaggs for a 58-yard touchdown pass which sealed the deal for Kerman in the 3rd quarter. Kerman would end up converting one more touchdown to seal a must-win game for Kerman with a final of 56-26.

Kerman had stellar performances throughout. The first difference maker was the total yards between both teams. Liberty had a great running game with a total of 335 yards. Kerman also did with 414. The big difference maker, however, was the passing game. Like I said in the previous article, the key for Kerman to have success in this game was to get its’ passing game going, and they did just that. Sean went 10-11 for 221 yards and two touchdowns. However, Sean had a lot of help from his lineman. His big line with Jacob Vallejo, Angel Rodriguez, Nathan Covarrubia, Grant Garewal, and Andrew Cerros game him plenty of time in the pocket and gave openings for the running backs to run through. Speaking of the run game, Kerman usually is split up between Chambers, Smith, and Acosta. However, on Friday, they were lead by one main back.

Senior Christopher Acosta had his biggest performance of the season. On 25 carries, Acosta had 185 rushing yards and four touchdowns. His efforts don’t even stop there. He also had an 18-yard receiving touchdown as well.
With their herculean performance, they did something no football team has done in over 15 years. Kerman has not only it’s the best season, but has guaranteed itself at least a share of the league title, Kerman’s first since 2002. And to celebrate such a joyous occasion, Interim Head Coach Stephen Hurt earned himself a Gatorade bath from his players, stating, “That Gatorade is cold.” Kerman still, however, has one game left. They have their final game of the season at John Ventura Stadium against the Washington Union Panthers for the outright League title.
