PAGMETER GIRLS BASKETBALL DIVISION RANKINGS 2023-2024

BASKETBALL NOTES
A proposal was passed that each Division will have 16 team brackets. (D1-D6)
Let’s pray that it’s not like the football brackets because it was a COMPLETE DISASTER!
In football, Buchanan, Edison, Bullard and Memorial all had down years and didn’t qualify for the postseason Division 1 tournament so instead of using common sense and just leaving D1 with 12 teams, the committee filled up the Division 1 bracket with four Division 2 teams that had no business being in D1.
What happens from there, that means D2 was filled with D3 teams that should not be in D2, and D3 teams was filled with D4… and at the end of the day, the little Division 6 teams get screwed because plenty of Division 5 teams come down and dominate D6. Without common sense, it will either be a trickle up and trickle down with this playoff system.
I love the idea of having 16 teams in every bracket if there are 16 teams that make sense, BUT you must use COMMON SENSE!
To the COMMITTEE, please use common sense in basketball.
THE MEANING OF EQUITY
Do you know what EQUITY means when you hear it with High School sports?
It means if you are a large school and you’re having a down year for whatever reason, don’t worry because we got you covered, we will put you in with small overachieving schools that are having good years so you can ruin their year. When you hear the word EQUITY, somebody will be getting screwed!
WE NEED A GIRLS BASKETBALL COMMITTEE
Someday I pray for all the playoff decisions we have a basketball only committee that sits down and figures out where teams should be. The committee would have nothing to do with the CIF.
It should be a committee from all over the Central Section that knows BASKETBALL that uses common sense-head to head-strength of schedule-and computer.
Whatever the committee comes up with, it is then given to the CIF and they announce the teams and the playoffs. The CIF has way too much on their plate to figure out every individual sports playoffs.
Let a committee for every sport do all the work on what that sport needs. DUH!
SMALL SCHOOLS BE SMART
Note to the small schools, If you win plenty of games early, you really lose in the long run because you will move up from your based division and will have to play teams much larger than you and eventually will go down. Sorry to break the news but it’s 100% true.
Sometimes when you win, you actually lose in the long run and sometimes when you lose you actually get a better seed that fits your team. Unfortunately this playoff format is better sometimes to lose so you don’t become the test-dummy and make money in the snack bar for the bigger school.
The playoff format is made for the larger underachieving schools and the small overachieving schools will always get penalized if they have to move up and play the bigger teams. I simply don’t get how the Committee who put this playoff format together doesn’t see it??
Example and stay with me on this because it does get complicated, I’ve seen it now since the world ended with the plandemic. Teams are now getting very creative.
Let’s say you are based in DIVISION 4 and seeded No 16 in D4.
Hmmmm, let’s see, lose the last few games and just like that you are a top seed in DIVISION 5.
The No 16 seed means on the bus to get your ass kicked by a Top seeded underachieving team from D3 playing in D4 team or lose some games at the right time, and you become a Top seeded team with home games in D5 and a snack bar $$$$. It’s a no-brainer.
This is what the playoff/postseason tournament format gives you. In football plenty of teams play the young players when they really don’t care to win a game. Wink-Wink
WE NEED A DIVISION 7
If we are going to have this silly unfair playoff format, for the love of god can we have a DIVISION 7 bracket for just the REAL SMALL schools? Someday we will.
Right now, too many larger D5 schools come down into D6 and take over. What incentive does the small schools have knowing before the year starts that they have zero chance with this playoff format?
What happens to the small school star player? The family says no thanks and transfers out.
Make a Division 7 bracket for the real small schools and we shouldn’t care if there are only let’s say 6-10 teams that qualify, it should then be a 6-10 team bracket for the SMALL schools only because you will never EVER see a small school team win a championship again with this playoff format. The real small schools have to play in leagues already over their head and guess what, their overall record will not be good.
The Central Section keeps growing with more schools and the small schools are being left out or the overachieving teams have to move up and play the bigger schools. It’s time for a small school leagues/division only.
Right now there are 31 based teams in division 6 plus plenty of division 5 teams will come into division 6 as you know because some division 5 teams are having down years. What the CIF is really saying is, we really don’t give a hoot about division 6 and the small schools and so let’s overcrowd division 6 because a division 5 team is going to win the division anyway.
We need to make teams want to win every game again and not have to lose to gain ground in a division. Wink Wink.
PAGMETER PLAYOFF IDEA
If we had a division 7, that would help and whatever you’re based in, you stay in your base division. DUH. We should base teams after the 30 day transfer rule and when grades come out because some teams are completely different after the 30 day sit out period.
Once you are based in the division that the basketball committee thinks you should be in, you stay in that based division for the rest of the year. Each team can have the option to move up a division but NEVER move down. This idea is that teams will want to win games for a higher seed/playoff game and instead of losing on purpose to move to the right division and where they belong in the first place.
If you have a down year then your season ends with no playoffs. DUH
WELCOME TO THE PAGMETER, THE COMMON SENSE HEADQUARTER FOR BASKETBALL
DIVISION 1 NOTES
The Memorial Panthers are in a messy situation with Coaching. Head Coach Geoffrey Clayton is on administrative leave and it has nothing to do with basketball. It’s very quiet with the situation.
The BIG news is PAGMETER junior All Star 6’3 Alexis Swillis from the Memorial Panthers has transferred out to Clovis West. Yes Clovis West. Alexis hasn’t played yet this year for SJM so that’s considered her sit out period and Alexis can play right away. SJM will still be a dangerous team with plenty of talent.
Clovis West just became even more of a state power. Holy Jeepers!
Caruthers should be based in D3 and should be the No 1 seed in D2. The overachieving Blue Raiders who have plenty of players playing multi-sports, will be screwed again this year and forced to play against schools that won’t let players play in other sports. With this playoff format, this will cost Caruthers a possible state championship. The CIF loves when student athletes play more than one sport, but will penalize teams for playing multi-sports. Some Caurthers players play other sports in the same season.
There are only 10 based teams in Division 1 and that means it’s going to be a complete shit show with Division 2 teams moving up. There should really only be 8 teams that should play in the Division 1 playoffs this year but no more than 11 teams. .
Hey division 2 teams, start losing smart games to make sure you stay in division 2.
Caruthers needs to be in Division 2 and since the Blue Raiders will get screwed playing in D1 at least give them a home game. The Blue Raiders players are multi-sports athletes and most D1 teams are not allowed to play other sports and that alone should have Caruthers in D2. Common sense.

PAGMETER DIVISION 2 GIRLS BASKETBALL
PAGMETER DIVISION 2 NOTES,
Carurthers should be playing in D2 and should be based in D3. Plenty of D3 teams are good and playing in D2.
Tehachapi who beat Monache and Shafter should be the No 1 seed if Caruthers has to play in D1. There is no way that Mission Prep should have gotten the No 2 seed. Shafter being a high seed in D2 should be in D2 but got a gift with playing in D3. Roosevelt lucked out and got to play in D3. Sanger should be in D3.
