IT’S THAT TIME.
The PAGMETER is getting a late start on the season. To every coach, please send in your Team’s scoop (names & notes) so we can attach it to your team’s info rankings.
pagmeter@yahoo.com Thank you!

REST IN PEACE WEEK 0
It has taken a long time for the PAGMETER logic to FINALLY kick in.

The reason why we ever had week 0 was because some teams put together a late game and usually vs out of section teams back in the 90’s.

Example back in 2004 when Clovis West scheduled a huge game against De La Salle that we all remember. Clovis West beat De La Salle 30-12. They scheduled the game before the year started, it was the only game scheduled and the only time they could play each other was before the season started on a Saturday night so they called it Week 0.
The media jumped on it and every year since they called the first week, WEEK 0. Stop it.
99.8% of the team will start the season on Aug 22-23.
Week 1 is on Aug 22-23 and since teams have byes, there will be 11 weeks to play 10 game regular season.

Scrimmage week is week 0 for you week 0 lovers!

NO MORE VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

THANK YOU SO MUCH because almost everybody is now calling it a Division Section Championship or Central Section Championship (if you are in division 1)
It has taken the PAGMETER, 7 plus years to educate our section.
To the few that haven’t gotten the memo…There is NO MORE VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIPS. They are now SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WHY?
When the Central Coast teams moved into the Central Section, the Central Section got a lot bigger with plenty more outstanding teams. Last time I checked, Santa Maria is not in the valley. Every time you say valley champions, you are disrespecting teams out of the valley.

So make a note-Division 1AA is for the CENTRAL Section Championship. (Big Boy Division)

DIvision 1-A through D6 is for the Section Championships….

**CSOSA (Bob Kayajain) HAD Fresno Unified, Selma, Fresno Christian and Tranquility.
**CSOA (Joe Kitchen/Derrin Miller) had Clovis Unified, Los Banos, Pacheco, Legrand and Mariposa.
Bob Kayajian closed his CSOSA association and gave everything, including his officials to the CSOA.
**CSOA is also helping out the Central Coast covering Morro Bay and a couple other schools for non league games on the Central Coast.
The CSOA has 3 different pay structures:
*Los Banos, Pacheco Mariposa and Legrand and the Central Coast will pay $240 per night. (JV & Varsity combined)
*Fresno Unified, Selma, Tranquility and Fresno Christian will pay $215 per night (JV & Varsity) *Clovis Unified pays $205 per night (JV & Varsity)
Clovis Unified would not pay more per night than $205 but the CSOA caved in and settled for the lower pay. Reminder, without officials, we have ZERO Friday Night Lights. ZERO!
If you are a road team and playing at Buchanan or Tim Simons field, it has to scare you a little bit when the team you are playing has their own officials association.

**SJVOA has everything else from Memorial, Central Unified, Madera Unified and all the county school home games. Chowchilla/Dos Palos to Coalinga/Kingsburg/Orange Cove, and Avenal to Sierra and Yosemite. SJVOA wii charge $215 per night (JV & Varsity)

**KCOA has Bakersfield, Arvin, Taft to Delano and is in need of more officials. They charge $215 per night (JV & Varsity)

**Mojave Desert officials Association out of Lancaster) Not sure what they charge because some games don’t have a JV game. They charge $72 for JV and $140 for varsity

*(CVOA) Tulare officials have Dinuba to Delano including Porterville. Charges $215.00 per night (JV & Varsity combined)

*Central Coast (CCOA) Charges $230 per night (JV & Varsity)

**If you would like to be an official, email the PAGMETER (pagmeter@yahoo.com) and we will get you the.info that you need. It is a lot of fun to be part of Friday Night Lights! For you former football players, you will have the pregame and postgame emotions again…Email today!

HERE IS THE 2025 NEW BASE DIVISIONS. PLENTY OF TEAMS SHOULD BE APPEALING BUT THE CIF WILL NOT LET TEAMS APPEAL. SOME OF THE TEAMS ARE PLACED IN WRONG DIVISIONS. IT COMPLETELY PENALIZES THE OVERACHIEVERS. WE NEED A DIVISION 7 FOR THE VERY SMALL SCHOOLS.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS?

IF THE PAGMETER WAS IN CHARGE, THE BASE DIVISIONS WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS FOR 2025. EVERY YEAR IT MIGHT/COULD CHANGE BECAUSE EVERY TEAM IS DIFFERENT FROM YEAR TO YEAR.

COACHING MOVES/CHANGES

SUNNYSIDE WILDCATS WILL NEED A NEW HEAD COACH
Co-Head Coaches Tom Wilson and Gordon Wood are leaving to Coach with George Petrissans at Clovis East. They will both still teach at Sunnyside.

CLOVIS NORTH BRONCOS
The new Head Coach will be Colby Hunter who was the OC at Clovis East. This will be Colby’s first Head Coaching job.

CLOVIS EAST T WOLVES
The new Head Coach will be George Petrissans . George was the former Garza Guardians OC and former Clovis West Head Coach.

WASCO TIGERS
New Head Coach will be Kyle Wedel. Wedel, a special education teacher at Wasco, Was the QB when the Tigers won the 2012 Division 5 Section Championship. Wedel, who also will coach the Tiger’s baseball team this spring, said the ability to lead a team that loves in a town that he loves is a dream come true.

EAST BLADES
New Head Coach will be Nick Romero. who graduated at East. Romero recently was the Linebacker Coach at Bakersfield College and an English teacher at Highland.

EL DIAMANTE MINERS
New Head Coach will be Chris Mendoza who has coached at Hanford for the last 5 years being the Special Team Coach/DB.

REDWOOD RANGERS
New Head Coach will be Curtis Allen who graduated from Redwood in 1981. Allen was former head football coach at College of the Sequoias

YOSEMITE BADGERS
New Head Coach will be Jeremiah Aycock. Jeremiah was the OC for the Torres Toros last year and was the OC when the Toros won the Division 4 section Championship.

STOCKDALE MUSTANGS
New Head Coach will be Chad Dials who took over at mid-season and was the OC
. What’s crazy is Coach Dials will not be an on-campus Coach. Until the Stockdale administration figures out that Coaching football is a big deal for your school/players/parents, look for Stockdale football to continue to struggle and soon be in Division 5.

HANFORD WEST HUSKIES
The new Head Coach will be Steve Lentz. Hanford West got a great guy! Stevie coached at Tulare Union for a long time and was part of the Redskins winning the 99 & 2000 championships with coaching the DB’s. He went back to a Exeter to coach his boys. Gunner his youngest, graduated from Exeter last year. Steve is a secondary guy. He’s a spark plug and will bring in high energy, intense, and cares about kids. Very technically sound and will bring accountability to Hanford West. HW has one of the worst administrations in the Central Section and is very lucky to be getting a great coach. 8 coaches in 8 years, HW administration better support Coach Lentz or he won’t be there long.
The Huskies are seeking a Varsity Offensive Coordinator for the 2025 season. Teaching positions may be available for qualified candidates. Interested applicants should reach out to Head Coach Steve Lentz (stevie_lentz@yahoo.com)

CLOVIS SOUTH LONGHORNS
The New Head Coach will be Benny Martinez

CHAVEZ TITANS
The New HC will be Manny Munoz. Manny was the former McFarland Cougars HC. The OC will be Cal Tincher who was the OC for the Kennedy 2018 D5 section Championship Team. The horrible administration needs to support the sports programs or these coaches won’t be there long.

CENTRAL WEST GRIZZLIES (YES IT’S OFFICIAL, THEY WILL BE THE CENTRAL WEST GRIZZLIES)
Central West will be looking for a new Head Coach. Still too early if it will be 8-man football
or 11-man football

School news
Central Unified will now have 3 Campuses & playing sports starting in the fall.
East = Same Colors
West = burnt orange (Texas) white and black
Garza = red white and blue

Here’s where it gets crazy.

Central unified is thinking about changing the mascot name.
THE GOLDEN RULE, YOU NEVER TAKE A MASCOT AWAY FROM A SCHOOL ESPECIALLY AFTER 30 YEARS!

Central East which has been around since 1996 could be called the Central East Bengals, They will always be the Grizzlies. to the PAGMETER

The New School, Central West will be called the Central West Grizzlies and should be the Aggies. DUH

This is some Dumb-Shit thinking and you can’t make this stuff up.

This 2024 senior class will be the last graduating class being the Central Grizzlies

The New Central West school plans on having full sports with varsity, JV & Freshman.

DIVISION 2 PLAYOFF NOTES
Instead of having a full 16 team bracket, the CIF decided to move some teams into D3 and it now messes up D3 and D4. Righetti High, Madera, and Garza got a huge gift with moving into D3. Sanger and TU should be in D1A and that means Memorial should be in D2. If Righetti High, Madera and Garza get to move into D3, why not Tehachapi? Tehachapi is based in D3 and Righetti High is based in D2. Makes zero sense. What did Tehachapi ever do to the CIF!

SLOHS is celebrating “100 Years of Tiger Football” this year. Hundreds of former Tiger football players will descend on the “new look” Holt Field when the Tigers host Arroyo Grande on September 6th to reunite with their old teammates.
A veteran-heavy team with a lot of experience is looking to compete in the tough Sunset League. SLOHS.Offensive returners include QB Jace Gomes, one of the best football players in the section.
Accompanying Gomes in the backfield is a bevy of running backs in Colbin Garrison, Michael Milner, Peyton Quaglino, and Jacob Garcia.
Up front, the Tigers return Ben Davidson at guard and Carter Sutcliffe at Center. They’ll anchor an offensive line that has paved the way for a strong running game that the Tigers have shown the last two years.
On the perimeter, school record-setting receiver Finn Hickey returns in the slot, and Cody Johnson and Britton Rethmeier will create explosive plays on the outside. Abel Ritter returns at Tight End. A great blend of speed and size.

Defensive returners include Owen Fawcett up front on the defensive line. The Tigers also return a stable of long, athletic linebackers in Hayden Hall, Dane Adler, Abel Ritter, Jack Webber, and Colbin Garrison.
In the secondary, the Tigers return Britton Rethmeier at Safety and Cody Johnson at Corner. Rising Sophomore Quentin Cramer is getting the nod at the other corner, and is set to do big things.
Look for the Tigers to use their speed and experience to make some waves this season!

D3 gets 4 byes. Righetti High, Madera, and Garza got a huge gift with getting play in D3 and Tehachapi doesn’t. With these teams moving into D3, it moves D3 teams down which makes zero sense. Mission Prep, Wasco, Templeton, North and South move down into D4. Atascadero moves all the way down into D5.

Head Coach Brandon Deckard 1st year and 11th year overall

This year has been a season of learning and growth in Farmersville. The former head coach quit with 1 week left in the school year taking another job out of state leaving the program in a tough place. Farmersville’s new Head Coach Brandon Deckard was hired in the middle of June well into the time that programs are running important summer practices to acclimate new players and teach basic scheme. Due to this late start the Aztecs attended no passing tournaments or throw arounds at all during summer and spent the time they had learning a brand new offense and defense. As a result of this multiple incoming and current Farmersville athletes transfered to surrounding schools such as Golden West and Exeter mainly because the ship was captain less for the beginning of summer due to the late hiring process. This left Farmersville in a tough position when it came to having a JV and Varsity programs and as a result the JV program was sidelined and it was decided there would only be one team. Student athlete participation and attendance was the driving factor behind this decision along with the late start. The silver lining of this decision has been some great play from the younger portion of the team. 9 Freshman and Sophomores won and held starting positions all season giving them valuable game speed reps at the Varsity level that should only help the Aztecs down the road. The highlight of this group on Defense is two Freshman linebackers in Sergio Valencia Jr and Naithan Valencia who have started every game as inside linebackers. Offensively there are a pair of Guards in Luis Villareal (6’2 265) and Yain Garcia (6’3 255) who are both Sophomores. To go along with the youth on the Aztec roster there are some seasoned veterans in 4 year starters Jonathan Perez and Ziler Alamanza along with Senior starters Humberto Medrano, Heleno Saucedo (3 year Varsity Letterman), Emmanuel Lopez, Chris Garza, Andrew Nunez, and Gabriel Lucatero. Junior Gary Gonzales has made significant contributions as a Cornerback and Runningback when he’s been available. Unfortunately Gary’s mother unexpectedly passed away in the middle of the season which obviously led to missed time. Last week against Orange Cove Gary was named Quarterback Club player of the game rushing for 130 yards and snagging an interception. With the final game of the season upon us the Aztecs find themselves one win away from qualifying for playoffs hoping to head into the post season tournament on a win streak.
