PAGMETER BASEBALL DIVISION RANKINGS 2024

WELCOME TO THE PAGMETER BASEBALL DIVISION RANKINGS 2024

YOUR COMMON SENSE HEADQUARTERS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

THE ROAD TO RAWHIDE/VALLEY STRONG BALLPARK (MAY 23-25)
It’s the battle for the top 2 seeds in every division!

THE LATEST IN DIVISION BRACKET NEWS
Division 1 will try to have 16 teams in the tournament/playoff bracket. It all depends who qualifies with the 30% wins.

IF THE PAGMETER WAS THE COMMISH
I would make a committee for EACH SPORT and that committee would decide on what the division playoff brackets/based teams would be for EACH SPORT/EACH YEAR and then give it to the CIF for what that individual SPORT wants.

The PAGMETER’S idea makes way too much sense with a committee who knows exactly what that sport needs.
The committee would use COMMON SENSE, head-to-head, strength of schedule, computer, and more COMMON SENSE to figure out the division/bracket/playoffs including where each team should be based.

PAGMETER BASEBALL DIVISION RANKINGS

DIVISION 1 Notes

There are 14  teams based in division 1 and the CIF will fill up D1 with 16 teams if there are 16 teams that qualify. I just hope that the CIF uses common sense with teams that deserve to be in D1. There will be 16 teams in every bracket.

All 14 teams should be in D1 along with Redwood who is now a D1 baseball program. So overall in D1 there should be 15 teams in the D1 bracket. We all know that won’t happen.

With this silly/crazy playoff format, you will see D2 teams move into D1 and D1 teams move into D2 and that is so wrong.

Note to plenty of the division 2 teams, don’t get too excited about winning all your non league games because you could end up in the division 1 playoffs

The Top 8 teams in D1 have all beaten each other up. Division 1 will be a battle for the Top 2 seeds.

The playoffs this year could be a trickle down and/or trickle up. In D1, there should be only 12 teams in this year’s bracket. Liberty and Clovis West are in the driver seats for the No 1 andor No 2 spots.

SHAKE UP AT BUCHANAN!
Former MLB All Star Troy Glaus is out as the Head Coach at Buchanan and Brad Fontes is back in. Fontes stepped down last year because of health issues and an emergency meeting brought Fontes back ASAP.
3rd base Coach Bryan Marsoobian, along with former MLB and Buchanan Hall Of Famer Jason Donald will be coaching with Brad Fontes the rest of the way. Brad Fontes will also be back in 2025 Coaching the Bears. Fontes is feeling way better! The Bears are 3-0 with Fontes back in sweeping Clovis North.
The Bears were falling apart like a cheap suit on & off the field and the Bears Principal made the decision to let Troy Glaus go. Was it bad timing? Heck yes!
Coach Glaus has never been a head coach before and was trying to make the players accountable for their actions, suspending 4 players for the Clovis West game last week and that didn’t go over well. Every coach is different with team rules as we all know. Some suspend and some make you run extra.

It should be a privilege to play for Buchanan with whoever is coaching and winning is also a privilege with hard work and never expected.
There’s no question that Brad Fontes and the staff are outstanding and clearly run a better high school program than Glaus who has never been a head coach. Every coach has issues with making players/families happy. Some players transferred out before the season started so to say that players were transferring out because of Glaus is simply wrong.
This story is getting national headlines and it’s showing a bad taste for a weak Buchanan Principal and caving in to the pressure of players/families of possibly leaving. Buchanan should have waited until the end of the season to make the move.
If players/families are threatening to transfer out because they aren’t happy then they don’t have heart and shouldn’t be apart of the Buchanan Bears family. Buchanan is absolutely loaded in the 7th & 8th feeders system.
PagMeter coached with Tom Donald at Buchanan in 2005-2006 when the Bears won their first two Championships in school history so I can talk about what goes on at Buchanan.
The former outstanding Buchanan alumni would be ashamed to hear that players want or wanted to transfer out.

Buchanan thought when the coaching staff hired the MLB All Star that high school players would be coming in from all over the USA to play for Buchanan. Everybody was so excited that a Big-Time All Star was going to Coach at Buchanan. It was the talk of the town.
Glaus wanted to create his own tradition at Buchanan after Greg Funk, Tom Donald and Brad Fontes have built for over 20 years and Bears nation didn’t accept it. It is not right or wrong with what Glaus wanted to do. It’s his team because he was hired to be the Head Coach.
Glaus put in over $40,000 dollars of his OWN money, brought his family to the valley and that’s the thanks he gets.
Unless Glaus broke a law, Buchanan should have waited until the season ended to bring back Brad Fontes. Believe me, nobody would be transferring out if Buchanan decided to bring Fontes back one day after the season ended.

57th annual City-County All Star Baseball game Final score City 4 County 3

Playoff Division 1 Notes,
Edison beat Madera & Sanger 2 of 3, should have been in D1 and was put in D3. You can’t make this up. The Committee actually put Edison in D3!! Redwood playing D2-D3 teams in league never helps them playing in the D1 playoffs.
Edison should have been the 13 seed and Sanger should be in D2. Because of this crazy playoff format, look for some low seeds to beat some high seeds.

DIVISION 3

DIVISION 3 NOTES
Division 3 is the perfect case on why we need a baseball ONLY committee to do the base divisions and playoff brackets. Division 3 is a mess. The CIF committee doesn’t follow baseball like the PAGMETER does.
The committee put Edison in D3 and Edison should be in D1. Simply wrong.
Exeter beat Porterville 16-1 and got the 11 seed and Porterville got a No 4 seed. Simply wrong. Exeter should have gotten a home playoff game.
Tehachapi got screwed in the football playoff bracket so the committee made a pay back with Tehachapi baseball. El D is a 16 seed but there is no-way the Miners should be considered a No 16 seed because the PAGMETER has them favored at Pioneer Valley. Nailed it
Arroyo Grande got a gift and gets to play in D3
. The Eagles play a very good Gaeces team. Templeton played the same strength of schedule as Tehachapi and Templeton was put into D2. Simply wrong. Lompoc should have been in D3. With this crazy playoff format, look for some low seeds to beat the high seeds. It happens every year.

DIVISION 4

DIVISION 4 NOTES
It is now very confusing with how the committee is doing the brackets??
Is the committee looking at Maxprep or head to head tie-breaker?
Mission Oak beat Independence. Highland beat Arvin and Independence twice, Indy beat Arvin twice and Arvin beat Taft.
Exeter is based in D4, lost to Selma 2 of 3, Selma is based in D3 and Exeter was put into D3.
Hoover beat Sanger West twice and SW got a No 4 seed and Hoover got a No 8 seed.
It should have been a trickle down with No 2-6 seeds. Watchout for Reedley and Dinuba, their record is not good but they have played a tough schedule.
If Reedley were still in the NYL, the Pirates would battle Fresno High for the NYL Championship. With this silly playoff format, look for some low seeds to beat some high seeds.
The Liberty Hawks are the only No 1 seed in this year’s Central Section playoffs that are the heavy favorites.
