REST IN PEACE WEEK 0

The reason why we ever had week 0 was because some teams put together a late game and usually vs out of section teams back in the 90’s.

Example back in 2004 when Clovis West scheduled a huge game against De La Salle that we all remember. Clovis West beat the Spartans 30-12. They scheduled the game before the year started, it was the only game scheduled and the only time they could play each other was before the season started on a Saturday night so they called it Week 0.

Today every media outlet will call opening week, Week 0 because well just because that’s what they hear. Most media really don’t know the week 0 history and of course it’s a habit. We live in the fake news world or a copy-cat society.
99.8% of the team will start the season on Aug 18 so why would we call week 0?
For the love of God, please stop calling Aug 18 week 0!
Week 1 is on Aug 18 and since teams have byes, there will be 11 weeks to play 10 game regular season.

This year (Already making excuses) there are so many teams starting out so even and the first 2-4 weeks will be tough to make predictions on. There’s a reason why most don’t predict the start of the year but not the Meter. GAME ON!

Sophomore QB Ezekiel (EZ) Osborne is already a veteran after a fantastic freshman year in leading the Generals to their first Championship in 50 years.

The Eagles have 3 QBs and could be going with sophomore gun-slinger Talen Mather, a transfer from Burroughs along with Lincoln Adame who will get playing time. The Royals will go with senior 6’4, 240lb Drew Souza at QB. Can the Royals handle the speedy Eagles WR’s? The Royals defense needs a big night. This one is tough to figure out with both teams having plenty of new players. The weather will be beautiful.

Can the Panthers slow down the running backs with junior Jackson Cinfel, Pagmeter All Star junior McKay Madsen and senior Andrew Chavez. The Panthers will have to hold serve on offense and will need to score plenty because the Broncos don’t plan on punting much.

Torres’ home stadium is Madera South and/or Madera but MUSD will never let the Madera Coyotes sit on the visiting side. It should be a great motivator for little brother.

Can the Rams defense stay with the Golden Eagles offense with WR/DB Landon Wright, WR/DB Marshel Sanders,WR/DB Jordan Pierro, WR Jonavon Darrington and senior QB Tyler Patrick?

The new and improved T Wolves are ready to show the Central Section that they are the real deal. The Falcons will lead with Senior QB Mason Drew who loves to spread it out and throw it all over the yard. Drew is not a runner so the T Wolves must put pressure on him. The T Wolves secondary is very good. Qb Ty Miller and the T Wolves offense needs a big night to go 1-0.

LIBERTY PATRIOTS at HIGHLAND BULLDOGS

The back to back Central Section Champions and D1-A State Champion Liberty Patriots are ready to defend their title. Last year some thought (except for the Pagmeter) that the Patriots didn’t have the team to win it all and samething again this year. The Patriots love it not being the favorite. The Bulldogs finished last year at 9-2, average 54 points per game and return their QB junior Justin Wyatt.
The Patriots will have plenty of new faces and leading the way will be senior QB Cole O’Brien.
The X factor is the Bulldogs are stepping up playing the Patriots. It will be very hot so who can handle the 4th quarter heat especially with plenty of Patriots playing bot ways. If the Patriots defense steps up…game over.

The Knights come in with a very good team. The Knights will be going with sophomore QB Mason Tameling who is very athletic but a tough place to start your varsity career. Look for CVC to pound the ball with the best back in the Central Section with senior Bryson Donelson. This is a tough game to call because CVC will have plenty of new moving parts. This should be a very good game. The Cavaliers beat up the Knights last year to start the year and then the Knights went 11-3 and you know the Knights want payback.

The Chieftains first 5 games are 11-man football then a bye week and then 8-man football the rest of the way. Sierra is so close with playing fulltime 11-man football. Maybe next year. The Mustangs at home have the edge. Leading the way for the Chieftains will be outstanding WR Logan Kilbert. The toughest coaching job might just be what the Sierra staff does with 11-man vs 8 man. That can’t be easy figuring out a game plan. HC Mark Stelling, his assistants with former Madera HC Bonner Cunnings, Charlie Engle, John Harshman, Mike Maldonado and Ralph Beckmann have to work overtime with a game plan.
The Mustangs will come in very athletic, the defense is fast, the offense will spread it out with some good receivers.
