PAGMETER BASEBALL DIVISION RANKINGS 2023

WELCOME TO THE PAGMETER BASEBALL DIVISION RANKINGS 2023
YOUR COMMON SENSE HEADQUARTERS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

A LOT OF PAGMETER NOTES
For some of you that are new to the PAGMETER website, hang on because we are not like other formats because we will talk about the good/bad/ugly that most love and that most media outlets won’t talk about. We are uncensored and love hot topics.
The PAGMETER website gets an average of 60,000 plus hits a week so THANK YOU ALL FOR CLICKING ON.
For the regular PAGMETER followers, you know what to expect and welcome back because it’s going to be a great ride to Rawhide Park in Visalia where the Championships will be played on Memorial Day weekend (May 27-28)
This is the most WIDE OPEN year I have seen in a long time. Anybody can beat anybody but that could change once the weather heats up…
Email your team info to pagmeter@yahoo.com and we will add in as we go. I wanted to get the Division rankings out first and then add the team notes.
We want to give plenty of love to all the teams in the Central Section. If you don’t see your team’s info up, go tell your coach to send it in.
THE LATEST IN DIVISION BRACKET NEWS
Division 1 will have 16 teams in the tournament/playoff bracket compared to last year when there were only 8 teams. DUH!! It’s a no-brainer to have 16 teams in D1. Right now there are 14 teams based in division 1 and that means some good D2 teams will move up and some D1 struggling teams will move down. Last year was a complete disaster with teams trickling down to other divisions.
The way the playoff format is set, we should really call it a post season Tournament because it’s not a real playoff any longer. Anybody can pretty much enter.
LAST YEAR WAS A COMPLETE DISASTER FOR THE SMALL SCHOOLS
Why was it a disaster?
It’s because with only 8 teams in the division 1 playoffs last year, teams that didn’t make it in division 1, trickled down into division 2. The division 2 teams that couldn’t make it in division 2 trickled down in division 3. You get the idea…
The underachievers trickled down and the overachievers had to trickle up.
That means the overachieving small schools had to play the underachieving big schools and in this format, it will be a long shot for the small schools to win a championship again.
Also remember if you are based in (example) DIVISION 3, you can move into DIVISION 2, stay in DIVISION 3 or move down into DIVISION 4. It is horrible to do it this way. This format is made for the underachieving teams to win a championship.
PAGMETER IDEA
We should base teams in the middle of the year and teams should not bounce up or down after teams are based. Period!!
If you get based in DIVISION 3, you play in DIVISION 3. DUH. This way teams won’t have to lose a game on purpose to move down a division where they belong.
Let me repeat that again..TEAMS WON’T HAVE TO LOSE A GAME ON PURPOSE TO MOVE DOWN A DIVISION WHERE THEY BELONG.
Sorry but it happens in every sport and the playoff format is set for that to happen.
NOTE TO THE SMALL SCHOOLS
If you win plenty of games early in the year, you really lose in the long run because you will move up from your based division and will have to play teams much larger than you and eventually will go down.
Just look at what happened to the Kerman Lions last year. The Division 3 based Kerman Lions went 28-0 during the regular season, played a solid D3/D4/D5 schedule and had to move into division 2 and had to play very good division 1 teams that didn’t qualify in the top 8 in division 1. The Lions dream season comes to an end because of a bad playoff system.
The playoff format is made for the larger underachieving schools and the small overachieving schools will always get penalized if they have to move up and play the bigger teams. I simply don’t get how the Committee who put this playoff format together doesn’t see it??
EXAMPLE
Let’s just say you are based in DIVISION 4 and seeded No 16 late in the year,
Hmmmm, let’s see, lose the last few games and just like that the computer will give you the top seed in DIVISION 5. Huge difference from No 16 seed vs No 1 seed.
No 16 seed in D4 means on the bus to get your ass kicked by a D3 team that moved down into D4 or a top seed with a home game and snack bar $$$$ in D5. It’s a no-brainer going from getting bullied to being a bully in just a couple of losses.
I’m not saying teams lose on purpose, but it could be a great time to rest your pitching staff/starters and bring up some young guys to give them some varsity experience.
This is what the playoff format gives you. Lose games for the right bracket spot.
If you base teams after the 30 day sit out rule and make teams stay in that based division, then it’s all about winning and getting a good seed for a possible home playoff game. Again it’s a no-brainer idea but since the PAGMETER came up with the idea…it will never happen.
Now in basketball, the CIF committee went away with the computer rankings a bit and put in semi common sense in certain situations. It was still messed up but was a tad better.
To the newcomers on here, the baseball playoff brackets are supposed to go by the Max Prep computer rankings which is a bad idea.
IF THE PAGMETER WAS THE COMMISH
I would make a committee for EACH SPORT and that committee would decide on what the division playoff brackets would be for EACH SPORT and then give it to the CIF for what that individual SPORT wants. The PAGMETER idea makes way too much sense with a committee who knows exactly what that sport needs.
The committee would use COMMON SENSE, head-to-head, strength of schedule, computer, and more COMMON SENSE to figure out the division/bracket/playoffs.
Since the PAGMETER likes this idea, it will never happen.
3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WHEN THE WORLD ENDED
It has been 3 years since the world ended with the PLANDEMIC. I said it a million times that it wasn’t a pandemic but a plandemic and our kids were held hostage. As you remember, I got beat up standing up for our kids, coaches, student athletes, teams, parents, businesses, on campus school staying open, sports staying open…..
and against some school districts, corrupt government, the woke world, shutting down fall sports, on-line learning (which was a complete disaster) the crazy flu testing, taking the jab that doesn’t work and will hurt you more in the long run over the virus, wearing the dumb-ass mask that didn’t work, plenty of hypocrite followers, and our hypocrite Governor. (WE SHOULD I ALL PRAY FOR THE ONES WHO TOOK THE EXPERIMENTAL VACCINE)
I called the PLANDEMIC a scam from the get go because it was all about control and $$$$$ and after looking back on the 3 year anniversary of the PLANDEMIC, I just have to say I was 100% correct on everything and now we will continue to pay the price for our kids and education for years to come. Some senior student athletes are still put on the back burner being recruited because college players got a free year because of the plandemic. (Back-logged)
We had plenty of hypocrite’s who said we should have shut down all sports but couldn’t wait to broadcast/report on the games. The PAGMETER has almost 18,000 followers now on twitter, (I’m gaining on my youngest daughter Tessa who has 20 million followers on instagram, lol) and during the time when I was standing up for COMMON SENSE, I lost over 5,000 followers, got blocked by many and if I had to do it all over again..
I WOULD DOUBLE DOWN!!!
COMING SOON.. GAME ON PODCAST

PAGMETER DIVISION BASEBALL RANKINGS 2023
There are 14 teams based in Division 1 and should have 16 teams in the Division 1 bracket to avoid what happened last year.
Division 2 has 12 base teams, Division 3 & 4 has 25 each base teams, Division 5 has 21 base teams and Division 6 has 29 base teams but plenty won’t qualify.
Every division should have a 16 team bracket. Teams are supposed to win at least 30% of their games to enter the playoff/tournament.
Email your team info to pagmeter@yahoo.com and we will add in as we go. We want to give plenty of love to all the teams in the Central Section. If you don’t see your team’s info, go tell your coach to send it in.

DIVISION 1
PAGMETER POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT NOTES
Buchanan gets the No 2 seed and it’s because Buchanan’s stadium is 4 times bigger than Stockdale stadium. It’s that simple! More $$$$ for the CIF. Will the No 1 seed Knights be ready after playing a very weak CMAC?
Don’t believe the bullshit in Buchanan getting the No 2 seed over Stockdale because of who beat who…
OK, if it makes you feel better..Liberty beat Clovis, Stockdale beat Liberty 2 out of 3 and Clovis beat Buchanan 2 out 3. BOOM! Done with the comparison! Stockdale loves playing at all the beautiful Clovis Stadiums…
Hanford is seeded No 16 and that is 100% wrong!! This was a compete blunder by the CIF. Hanford finished 15-12 and 3rd in a D2/D3 league. Clovis East should be playing in the D1 postseason tournament and not Hanford. El Diamante wins 20 games and gets a No 12 seed. This is what happens when you put D2 teams in D1. Simply wrong! Will there be a HOT team that catches fire in the post-season and wins it all??

The Miners stand behind solid returning pitching staff in Seniors Matthew Bettencourt (FPU), Brandon Petty, and Trevor Hampel along with a blooming offense. Going from being a very young squad to a senior heavy team has its benefits. (The Miners have 13 seniors out of 17 players) Look for the Miners to do some damage in the EYL and go deep in the playoffs. If somehow they can get into division 2, they can win it all.

Fresno High wins 21 games, wins the NYL and has to travel. It’s completely wrong! Kerman gets the No 2 seed because last year they got screwed by the CIF and the CIF feels bad. Clovis North beat Central 3 times and Clovis North gets the lower seed. (3 times!) Hanford in Division 1 is a joke! PAGMETER HAS BC and St Joes at No 1 & No 2. D3 teams could be dominating in D2. BC is the heavy favorite to win it all.

The Lions are back and ready for a new challenge. The theory behind the tougher schedule is that if the Lions are going to continue to have bigger schools move into our divisions, they have to learn to play with them. This year the Lions will surprise some teams. The Lions lost many great players, but had plenty of talent waiting in the wings. Unfortunately some issues with athletes and injuries have made for a difficult start. The Lions return key starters in Senior Dominic Puentes, Senior Noe Salazar, Junior Adam Delgado, Junior Gilbert Acosta, sophomores Ayden Olivares and Giovanni Gastelum. Gastelum was an instant spark plug for this team until a season ending injury hit within the first few weeks. Gastelum was going to have a big year on the mound and the field. The Lions lost another starter in Manuel Lasa to an arm injury as well. Some instant sparks this year have been from Freshman Adrian Torres and the team’s Swiss Army Knife, Junior Dario Zavala. Zavala is the teams mister utility and has been huge for the Lions so far. Olivares has been fantastic on the mound for the Lions and has had some big hits as well. When 2 sport phenom Adam Delgado is on the mound he can beat anyone and that has shown early with his complete game shutout of Arroyo Grande. The bash brothers in the middle Dominic Pentes and Gilbert Acosta are two very feared hitters. Puentes hit the walk-off home run against Righetti. Look for the Lions to make some noise, don’t count them out.

Division 4 teams invade Division 3. Kingsburg is the heavy favorite to win it all. DP are the overachievers and has to play in D3 because they won too many games. The big problem with this silly playoff format is if you win, you have to move up and play large schools. DP should be battling against Liberty Madera in D4.

The Defending Division 5 Section Champions
The Thunderbirds are hot going into the last leg of the season undefeated in league so far and showed their potential beating a talented Highland team. The Birds look to be in Division 3 in this crazy playoff format. In 2021 (D6), 2022 (D5), 2023 (D3)….
The Thunderbirds return 7 out of 9 starters from the last 2 years championship team in 21 & 22. The team is led by seniors, Julian Orozco who is a potential D1 athlete and the team’s ace at 4-0, 0.83 ERA, 25 Innings and 41 K’s. Miguel Barraza is 2-0 with 14 innings and 21 K’s. Leading the way at the plate is Jeremiah Guerra who is another potential D1 athlete, Sergio Gonzalez (.464), Gerardo Salazar (.431) and Ace Julian Orozco (.415). Young talented freshman Jacob Sixtos has an ERA of 0.00 ERA (3-0) with 16.2 IP.

DIVISION 4
Bishop Union lost to Rosamond and finished 2nd in the HDL but the CIF put Bishop Union in D4. CIF messed up big time. Bishop Union should be in D5 just like Rosamond. Liberty Madera is the strong favorite and could compete with Kingsburg & Dos Palos in D3. The big question will be, who will play the Hawks in the Championship game?

DIVISION 5
DIVISION 5 RANKINGS WITH D4/D5 & D6 TEAMS
D5 is a mess! The CIF blundered and had to make a change. It should be a trickle down head to head but it wasn’t. For starters, Chavez got the No 1 seed but easily could have received the No 8 seed. Bishop Union should be in D5. How in the world does Lone Pine and Lee Vining get a better seed with playing less than 10 games over Lindsay who won their league!! This is completely wrong! Putting Lone Pine & Lee Vining who are low D6 and putting them in D5 is child abuse. They will get crushed in D5. The CIF changed it and made it right with Firebaugh who beat Caruthers, Caruthers beat Fresno Christian, FC beat Sierra and Yosemite. This crap of changing it would not happen if we had a baseball committee doing the brackets because the CIF committee has no clue with what needs to be done. Don’t go by the Monache Record. They are battle tested and the team to beat. PAGMETER has Firebaugh at No 1 seed, Chavez at No 2 and Monache at the No 3 seed. Firebaugh has the perfect recipe to win it all in Division 5 and small schools take note. With this crazy playoff format, the Eagles won and lost just enough games to stay in Division 5. If the Eagles win too many games, then they would have gone up into Division 4 and they would have had zero chance to win it all. Job well done Eagles.
