There will be no OPEN division playoff bracket this year and will have 12 teams in division 1. Also remember if you are based in (example) DIVISION 3, you can move into DIVISION 2, stay in DIVISION 3 or move down into DIVISION 4. It’s still horrible to do it this way. Also we will have a DIVISION 6 playoff this year.

PAGMETER IDEA;
We should base teams after the 30-day sit out/transfer rule, and after the new grades come out. Teams are MUCH different good/bad/ugly after all that happens…
We should not base teams before the season starts. College football playoffs don’t rank teams in the final 4 until later in the year. It is basic COMMON SENSE 101.

We should base teams in the middle of the year and teams should not bounce up or down after teams are based.
If you get based in DIVISION 3, you play in DIVISION 3. DUH. This way teams won’t have to lose a game on purpose to move down a division where they belong.
Let’s repeat that again..TEAMS WON’T HAVE TO LOSE A GAME ON PURPOSE TO MOVE DOWN A DIVISION WHERE THEY BELONG. Sorry but it happens and the playoff format is set for that to happen.

Note to the small schools, If you win plenty of games early, you really lose in the long run because you will move up from your based division and will have to play teams much larger than you and eventually will go down. Just look at what happened to the Kerman Lions baseball and what is going to happen to Sierra girls basketball.

The playoff format is made for the larger underachieving schools and the small overachieving schools will always get penalized if they have to move up and play the bigger teams. I simply don’t get how the Committee who put this playoff format together doesn’t see it??

Example, let’s say you are based in DIVISION 4 and seeded No 16.

Hmmmm, let’s see, lose the last few games and just like that you are a top seed in DIVISION 5.
No 16 seed would mean on the bus to get your ass kicked by a D3 team that moved down into D4 or a top seed with a home game and snack bar $$$$ in D5. This is what the playoff format gives you.
This silly format will make you lose some games to get you where you should really end up.
Since the PAGMETER came up with this idea of basing teams in the middle of the year, it will never happen. It would be nice to bring back COMMON SENSE into Central Section sports. I really miss it.

PAGMETER DIVISION 1 NOTES;
Caruthers should be based in D3 and should be the No 1 seed in D2. The Blue Raiders can compete and will be the heavy favorites in the first round. The big issue I have with Caruthers playing in D1 is 95% of the team plays multi-sports where most D1 teams are not allowed to play other sports. Roosevelt should also be in D2 after playing a D2-D4 schedule.

PAGMETER DIVISION 1 RANKINGS

No 1 CLOVIS WEST GOLDEN EAGLES (30-2) (9-1 TRAC CO-CHAMPIONS) (D1)
11 STRAIGHT CENTRAL SECTION CHAMPIONS

KSA Holiday Classic Champions in Orlando-Clovis West Nike Tournament.
This team is not flashy and they get after it on defense so you better be able to handle the pressure or it will be a long night playing C-dub. The Golden Eagles are a machine that will play amazing basketball for 32 minutes.
Leading the young Golden Eagles (yes young) will be seniors Etoyah Montgomery, Trinity Tolbert, junior Athena Tomlinson, and sophomores Keagan Meideros and Riley Walls.

No 2 CLOVIS COUGARS (27-7) (9-1 TRAC CO-CHAMPIONS) (D1) Beat Clovis West & Buchanan
The Cougars come in with a very good senior class and leading the way is the 3 point specialist Devin Miller, along with Alyssa Kem and Genevieve Tamondong and super freshman Sadie Sin.

No 3 ST JOSEPH KNIGHTS (26-5) (14-0 CENTRAL COAST CHAMPIONS) (D1) Beat Clovis
The Knights are very good and will be a team to watch out for. One of the top juniors in the state is Avary Cain who averages 22 ppg and 5 steals. 6-4 senior Candace Kpetikou’s 10 ppg, 14 reb and 4 blocks is a force in the middle. Keep an eye on junior Kai Oani, 5’10 sophomore Mia Matautia and freshman Annalyssa Cota.

No 4 BUCHANAN BEARS (21-10) (4-6 TRAC) (D1)
Hoover Holiday Classic Champions- Old Town Kiwanis Classic Champions-NorCal Invitational Champions.
This might just be the best Bears team in school history. The Bears with some early big wins over Redondo Union and Chaminade. Leading the Bears is senior Kylee Barnes along with outstanding juniors Aloni Oliver, Vanna Quintana and Journey Morrison.

No 5 CENTRAL GRIZZLIES (22-12) (5-5 TRAC) (D1) DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONS
The big Grizzlies question: can they hang with the TRAC teams above them in the rankings? The Grizzlies will have to play in the division 1 playoff bracket this year.
Leading the Grizzlies will be 6 ‘0 Senior Talia Maxwell who is averaging 25 ppg and 9 rebounds per game and Junior guard Keytonna Ross is scoring 12 points per game.

No 6 MEMORIAL (20-10) (10-0 CMAC CHAMPIONS) (D1)
DEFENDING DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS

The Panthers have some tremendous talent and will be playing in division 1. Plenty returns from last year’s outstanding team with 6-2 standout senior Meadow Roland and 6-3 sophomore Alexis Swillis, fantastic 3-point shooter sophomore Saiya Sidhu, and Jailynn Clayton. 60 straight CMAC wins

No 7 CLOVIS EAST T WOLVES (16-15) (3-7 TRAC) (D2)
The Timberwolves would be tough if they somehow got into division 2. Leading the way are seniors Kylie Ward, Allie Madron, Amaya Anderso and Rajdeep Kaur. A star is born with sophomore Taylor Rombaoa.

No 8 CARUTHERS BLUE RAIDERS (26-6) (14-0 NW SEQUOIA CHAMPIONS) (D2)
Because of this wacky playoff format that caters to the big schools, the small school overachieving Blue Raiders are based in division 2 which means that they will play in division 1.
It is completely wrong and it will cost them a possible section/state championship. The Blue Crew have won 102 straight league games and that is a Girls Central Section record. 10th straight conference Championship.
Leading the Blue Crew will be senior Morgan Trigueiro who can flat out shoot. Seniors Anisa Torres, Yuliza Padilla, junior Monster Aguirre and freshman Emmi Almeida make the Blue Raiders so good.

No 9 RIGHETTI HIGH WARRIORS (17-11) (9-5 CENTRAL COAST) (D1)
The young Warriors will be battle tested playing a tough schedule. Leading the Warriors will be outstanding junior Bree Luna (23 ppg), junior Makiah Cutliff, senior Eva Delgado and junior Martha Durazo.

No 10 ARROYO GRANDE EAGLES (17-12) (7-6 CENTRAL COAST) (D1)
Leading the Eagles will be seniors Jhade La paz, Morgan Mcelhenie, Gigi Woodman and Ella Parish.

No 11 NIPOMO TITANS (18-8) (7-7 CENTRAL COAST) (D2)
From the Central Coast League, the Titans were the No. 4 seed in the Central Section Open Division last season and return two top notch players in the Simonson sisters – senior Makennah (15.9 ppg) and sophomore Belle (16 ppg).

No 12 ROOSEVELT ROUGH RIDERS (25-5) (14-0 CMAC CHAMPIONS) (D2)
The Riders will be dangerous if they get into division 2.
Leading the Riders is seniors Leyocha Marigney who is averaging 17 ppg, Tianna Sutherland 14 ppg, and junior Taylor Sutherland 11ppg.

PAGMETER DIVISION 2 NOTES,
Just like Carurthers in D1, how in the world is Sierra who has 400 kids in the entire school have to play in D2!! The Chieftains should be based in D4 and play in D3. Keep an eye on the Top 4 teams. It’s going to be a battle for Selland Arena.

No 2 TEHACHAPI WARRIORS (26-3) (10-0 SY MOUNTAIN CHAMPIONS) (D3)

No 6 SIERRA CHIEFTAINS (24-5) (12-2 NW SEQUOIA) (D2) Beat Roosevelt
Sierra is another team that gets screwed because the small school overachievers are so good and have to play in division 1. Sierra has 400 students in the entire school so I would love to know how in the heck can some committee feel good about putting Sierra in D2 just because they have a tremendous basketball program?? Sierra should be based in division 3 and should be the No 1 seeded in division 2. DUH.
Leading the Chieftains are seniors Maddy McDivitt, Makayla McGrath, Birdie McDonald, Emily Edinborough, sophomores Kiley Esajian, Aleeawa Badoni, junior Vianne Lee, and a star is born with freshman Kaidence Begaye.

At this point of the day when doing the D5 bracket, the CIF Committee is probably tired because they didn’t look at Head to head or computer ratings. Mendota beat Coalinga twice, wins the WSL and the Toads got the better seed. Keep an eye on the very young Reedley Pirates. They are playing their best basketball at the right time.
