There will be no OPEN division playoff bracket this year and will have 12 teams in division 1. Also remember if you are based in (example) DIVISION 3, you can move into DIVISION 2, stay in DIVISION 3 or move down into DIVISION 4. It’s still horrible to do it this way. Also we will have a DIVISION 6 playoff this year.

PAGMETER IDEA;
We should base teams after the 30-day sit out/transfer rule, and after the new grades come out. Teams are MUCH different good/bad/ugly after all that happens…
We should not base teams before the season starts. College football playoffs don’t rank teams in the final 4 until later in the year. It is basic COMMON SENSE 101.

We should base teams in the middle of the year and teams should not bounce up or down after teams are based.
If you get based in DIVISION 3, you play in DIVISION 3. DUH. This way teams won’t have to lose a game on purpose to move down a division where they belong.
Let’s repeat that again..TEAMS WON’T HAVE TO LOSE A GAME ON PURPOSE TO MOVE DOWN A DIVISION WHERE THEY BELONG. Sorry but it happens and the playoff format is set for that to happen.

Note to the small schools, If you win plenty of games early, you really lose in the long run because you will move up from your based division and will have to play teams much larger than you and eventually will go down. (Just look at what happened to the Kerman Lions baseball team)

The playoff format is made for the larger underachieving schools and the small overachieving schools will always get penalized if they have to move up and play the bigger teams. I simply don’t get how the Committee who put this playoff format together doesn’t see it??

Example, let’s say you are based in DIVISION 4 and seeded No 16. Hmmmm, let’s see, lose the last few games and just like that you are a top seed in DIVISION 5.
No 16 seed means on the bus to get your ass kicked by a D3 team that moved down into D4 or a top seed with a home game and snack bar $$$$ in D5. This is what the playoff format gives you.

Since the PAGMETER came up with this idea of basing teams in the middle of the year, it will never happen. It would be nice to bring back COMMON SENSE into Central Section sports. I really miss it.

DIVISION 1 PAGMETER NOTES;
It turns out that the CIF did not go by the Computer ratings and almost went with common sense. ALMOST.
The bottom line, even the CIF knows that the Computer doesn’t work completely. They had us believe that the computer was going to be the bible for the brackets and I’m so glad that it is not.
I am so glad to see that Lemoore is in division 2 and Edison moved into Division 1 and they were on the right track for getting it right but forgot Sanger. The CIF blundered by putting Sanger in Division 1 and since they did not go by the so-called Computer rankings, they should have flipped-flopped Sanger with Central. Duh. Central would have battled strong in the CMAC but had to play in the TRAC so you can’t go by the Grizzlies record. Central should NEVER be able to play in Division 2. It’s bad enough Buchanan is.

If the PAGMETER did the Division 1 Bracket. St Joseph is ranked No 1, but the defending Champion Golden Eagles should get the No 1 seed. St Joseph has a tiny gym, the CIF gave the No 2 seed to Clovis North. The CIF will make much more money if somehow Clovis North can host the semifinals in the HUGE gym. $$$$$

PAGMETER DIVISION 1 RANKINGS

No 1 ST JOSEPH KNIGHTS (28-6) (14-0 MOUNTAIN CHAMPIONS) (D1) CENTRAL SECTION CHAMPIONS
Can anybody in the Central Section beat the Knights? The top player in the Central Section and one of the best in the country is sophomore Tounde Yessoufou. Keep an eye on senior guard Luis Marin, outstanding freshman phenom Julius Price, along with seniors Will Kuykendall and Caedin Hamilton.

No 2 CLOVIS WEST GOLDEN EAGLES (30-4) (9-1 TRAC CO-CHAMPIONS) (D1)
DEFENDING CENTRAL SECTION CHAMPIONS
Nike Classic Champions & Tarkanian Classic Champions.

Senior guard Issac Martinez has now scored over 1000 career points. Juniors Jackson Young and keep an eye on Zachery Chauhan, along with outstanding Marshel Sanders are ready to defend their title.

No 3 MEMORIAL PANTHERS (24-9) (9-1 CMAC CHAMPIONS) (D1) DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONS
The best big man in the Central Section is Mike Davis Jr. Sophomore Julius Olanrewaju who led the state in scoring playing at Coalinga last year is now eligible. The Panthers 45 game CMAC winning streak is snapped with the loss to Sanger.

No 4 BAKERSFIELD CHRISTIAN EAGLES (22-10) (8-1 SY VALLEY CHAMPIONS) (D1)

No 10 CLOVIS EAST T WOLVES (16-13) (5-5 TRAC) (D1)
The T Wolves are very young with outstanding freshmans Dalen Felder, Lydell Farmer, Aidan Beechler, junior Jeremy Pierro, and sophomore Harold Duval III. If The Wolves can somehow get into Division 2…WATCH OUT!

No 11 EDISON TIGERS (16-14) (4-6 CMAC) (D1)
Edison had to forfeit 2 games because of an ineligible player that was not their fault. Put in wins for Madera and Fresno Christian. There was horrible communication from the Edison continuation school JE Young/FUSD and Edison AD. It was handled poorly. Turns out the player was dropped over the break. But wasn’t enrolled at Edison till X-mas vacation was over. So basically he wasn’t enrolled anywhere over Christmas break. There was no one around to communicate anyway. A note to all Athletic Directors…AD’s need to know weekly if players are eligible especially if players are coming from another school.

No 12 SANGER APACHES (18-11) (6-4 CMAC) (D2)
Went 4-0 in the HIT

PAGMETER DIVISION 2 NOTES;
Just like in division 1, the CIF did not go by the Computer ratings and that is so confusing. They almost used common sense. I love that Lemoore is in D2 and so should Sanger.
This is the big problem with this silly playoff format is in every division, big teams will invade the lower division brackets and that is just wrong.
The Selma Bears have had a tremendous year and their reward is they play a division 1 Central Grizzlies team in the first round and that is simply wrong. If you agree with that then the terrorist win.

PAGMETER DIVISION 3 NOTES;
Division 3 is a complete mess. The CIF definitely did not go by the Computer and had a chance to use common sense but they didn’t. It’s hard to understand what they were thinking. Teams that should be in D3 were put in D4.
Sierra is a tremendous basketball team but with 400 kids in the entire school, is it really fair to put Sierra in division 3? If Sierra wins it all, this could be the last time a small school will win it all.
Division 3 is loaded with some outstanding teams and it’s a tough call who the favorite is.
Independence is set for a good run. Kingsburg is red hot at the right time.

PAGMETER DIVISION 4 NOTES;
I’m thinking the WIFI had to go out at the CIF office because there is no sign that they looked at the Computer rankings in division 4. There are so many mismatches and look for some blow outs in the first round.
Kerman is now the heavy favorite to play at Selland after getting the No 1 seed. Kerman, Tulare Western and Nipomo are loving it that they landed in D4. Nipomo finished 2nd in the Ocean league over Santa Ynez but somehow Santa Ynez is playing without Nipomo in D3. How is that possible? Look for the division 4 championship be full of D3 teams.
Fresno Christian wins 20 games and gets a bad 12 seed and has to travel which is never easy.
If I’m the CIF Commish, there is zero chance I’m letting Kennedy play in the playoffs after a bench clearing ugly brawl with Shafter last week and that includes parents fighting. Sometimes we need to bring back discipline. Shafter shut it down and the Shafter administration did the right thing. The Kennedy (Delano) administration doesn’t get it. You leave the bench to fight and you are done!
Rosamond and Bishop Union should really be in D5 along with Desert. Just because they have a nice record, doesn’t mean they should be in D4.

Kennedy had a ugly bench clearing fight this week vs Shafter. Parents were also involved. Players left the bench which is a NO-NO! Shafter did the right thing and shut down the season. Kennedy is planning on playing so the big question is who the heck wants the Kennedy crowd at your gym. Hopefully the Kennedy administration will do the right thing and shut it down.
