PAGMETER FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS WEEK 1, 2022

WEEK 1 of Central Section football is always the toughest week to pick winners. Teams are still trying to figure out what they have, who is starting, some teams are young, transfers, it’s very hot, you get the idea….

PAGMETER will give it a go..

Last year the PAGMETER finished the year 462-89 (85%) and a record year.

This is all for fun but I do like to hear that some PAGMETER Picks are good chalkboard material for teams. It’s not easy and I root for every Central Section team. I think most of you like the PAGMETER picking for or against you.

If the PAGMETER does fire you up and you win after I pick you to lose, I’m thinking I need a team shirt. Send one in (XL) and I will wear it on my radio show and talk about how I blew it. Matty J on the show loves to get on me about how I blew a pick. There is always that one team it seems that I miss in the pick and last year was the West Vikings. The Vikings sent in a shirt and I love it. I wear it everywhere.

GAME ON FOR WEEK 1 AND THERE ARE SOOOOOO MANY GREAT GAMES!

SEND IN YOUR STATS AND WE WILL ADD THEM IN. THANK YOU TO THE TEAMS THAT DO!

WEEK 1

LONG BEACH POLY JACKRABBITS at CLOVIS COUGARS

PAGMETER LINE Jackrabbits -35

The big talk is, do you think the Cougars have a chance since the Rabbits 5-star QB transferred out? Let’s make it very clear…the Cougars have zero chance because the next QB in line is also very good. This might not be one of the great Jackrabbit teams, but they are still Long Beach Poly. The Cougars New head coach is Aaron Wilkins and the young Cougars are already leading the Central Section in practice time. Maybe it’s so hot that LB Poly can’t handle it. The Cougars are working extra overtime and sometimes less is more but the Cougars won’t have enough to hang with a state power. Last year’s Cougars team would have been fun to watch against the Rabbits. Making his first start at QB for the Cougars is freshman QB Deagan Rose and he has to go against a fast defense. This will be the best team that the Cougars play all year long.

The X factor is a tough way to open up the season. Can the Cougars hang with the Rabbits on a hot night? The good news for Clovis is usually teams don’t do well traveling so far and it’s the opener. LB Poly is a team that is usually a mess to start the year and gets better as they go. If the Cougars offense can’t move the ball this will be a running clock. Stay tuned.

PAGMETER PREDICTION JACKRABBITS 41 COUGARS 7

FINAL JACKRABBITS 56 COUGARS 7

Freshman Deagan Rose threw his first varsity TD pass and hit Jaden Carrillo on a 6-yard TD.

This is a semi mountain bowl game. The Mustangs have a new head coach with Shannon Pulliam. The Mustangs are a sleeping giant and a work in progress. The Chieftains head coach Mark Stelling and his staff have the toughest job of any coaching staff because some weeks will be 8-man football and other weeks is 11-man football. This game is 11-man football.

Sierra is very young with 6 seniors back from last year and leading the way will be Seniors Bodee Cunnings, Jeremy Rue and Hunter Fowles at the skill positions and Center Colton DeLuca. Multi sports stars Logan Kilbert and Luke Brown return to build on last year’s performances. Sophomore Jake Pond will help fill voids on the line. Junior RB/LB Brock Cunnings and QB Aaron Irvine look to build on productive sophomore seasons. Looking good in summer workouts have been WR/DB Tanner Forrester.

HANFORD BULLPUPS vs BULLARD KNIGHTS

PAGMETER line KNIGHTS -3
It’s the speed of the Bullpups vs the power of the Knights!
This is another division 1 matchup. Hanford is a division 2 team and you guessed it, if they win, Hanford could be in division 1 for the rest of the year. The Bullpups need to be in division 2.
The Bullpups are a up-Tempo spread attack team that last year averaged 44 ppg. Leading the way will be seniors Jayden Sudds who is one of the best in the state and Donovan Smith who both have speed and great hands along with PAGMETER All Star senior QB Cayden Muir.
The Knights graduated a tremendous team and will have new faces but this Knights team is a throwback hard hitting physical team. The Knights alumni would be proud. The Knights new QB is sophomore Josh Madrigal and the Knights like this kid. Josh must be pretty good because the potential new QB that transfered in the spring to Bullard said “I’m not competing against that guy” and transferred out again down the road.
The X factor can the physical Knights defense hang with the speedy Bullpups? NOT A CHANCE. THE BULLPUPS WERE IN BETTER SHAPE AND MUCH MORE PHYSICAL.
