BREAKING NEWS
Common Sense wins!!

The Central Section High School playoffs are almost back to normal!
Whoever came up with the computer idea was sleeping at the wheel
.

The League Representatives voted on bringing back the common sense playoffs and it passed 27-16

It’s pretty simple…Big schools like the computer playoff format and the small schools hated the computer playoff format.

*Each team may only move up or down one division from their base division. That will help a little bit and I would love to see teams stay in their base division or move up IF THEY WANT TO. Teams should not be able to move down. That simply hurts the small teams.

*The base division may change each year based on the previous three years results starting in 2025-2026. An average of the previous three years divisional placement will determine a school’s base division

COACHING NEWS

CLOVIS COUGARS new Head Coach is AARON WILKINS

This will be Aaron’s first head coaching job. Graduate of Yosemite and has coached at Firebaugh, Yosemite, Reedley JC, Liberty & Northern Illinois University on the defensive side of the ball. Stephen was the AD at Arroyo Grande. Graduated and played at Arroyo Grande/Cal Poly and coached at Arroyo Grande.

MORRO BAY PIRATES new Head Coach is ROBERT DOUGHERTY

Morro Bay has hired the former Mt Whitney Pioneers All Star QB Robert Dougherty. Daugherty also played at COS and Boston College. Dougherty was the HC at Corcoran, Exeter and COS before taking over the Maui High Sabers.

WOODLAKE TIGERS new Head Coach is MANNY MARTINEZ
Manny Martinez is a graduate from Woodlake and the Defensive Coordinator since 2017 and have been around the Woodlake program for over 20 years.

SELMA BEARS new Head Coach is ART FRANCIS
Art Francis is the former
Washington Union Panthers head coach.

BUNCHANAN BEARS new Head Coach is Offensive Coordinator ROSS WOOD.
As for Matt Giordano, he did a fantastic job building the Buchanan Bears into a very good football program. Before Matt got to Buchanan, some called the Bears the Gummy Bears. Now the Bears are a physical, hard hitting football team. Matt graduated from Buchanan in 2001, helped win the only Championship in Buchanan history in 2000. Played 9 years in the NFL, won a Super Bowl ring with the Colts in 2007. Matt did a tremendous job at Buchanan in building the Bears into a state powerhouse contender. Overall the Bears went 51-16 with 2 TRAC championships including 5-0 in the spring

SANGER APACHES new Head Coach is MATT LOGUE
Matt is a former Sanger Apache DC and the perfect guy to take over. Matt led the Selma Bears to 2 section titles in his 7 years, most recently in 2019.

GOLDEN WEST TRAILBLAZERS new Head Coach is TRAVIS ANDERSON
This will be the first head coaching job for Travis who played high school football at Bullard, COS and Humboldt State. Travis was the DC at Mt Whitney and coached at Tulare Western in 2018.

Michael Machado has resigned and will still teach on campus. Marty was the former MW head coach and DC at Tulare.

Dwayne played at Fresno State, rushed for 2,683 yards, was a 4th round draft pick by the Buffalo Bills. Coached at West Hills, FCC before coming to Roosevelt. This will be the first head coaching job for Dwayne Wright.

KERMAN LIONS new Head Coach is DAMON JENKINS
This will be Damon’s first HC job. Was a standout DB at De La Salle/Fresno State. The KT Prep Central Valley founder has been a longtime coach at Clovis West & last year, DC at Justin Garza.

El DIAMANTE MINERS new Head Coach is DEVIN RAMOS.

Devin was the DC for Coach Rogers and hasn’t coached since Rogers retired.
Chris Frankland never had a chance and was sabotaged from the beginning after Mark Rogers retired. 3 ADs in 3 years. RED FLAG! Chris is a fantastic coach and will be coaching somewhere and at a much better school with support.

SANGER WEST HORNETS new Head Coach is ROB THOMPSON
Sanger Apaches assistant Coach Rob Thompson is a PE teacher at Sanger West HS
.

DEL ORO SUNS new Head Coach is RICH CORNFORD

Rich was the former head coach at Frontier and Ridgeview and the perfect guy to build a new football program. The Suns will only play Freshman/JV and will play in the South Yosemite Horizon League.

CLOVIS EAST T WOLVES new Head Coach is BRANDON NAGLE
Brandon was an assistant coach at Clovis East and before CE, Brandon was the head coach at Reedley for 3 years going 5-25
. The 2nd go around for Brandon and being a head coach should be much better.

AVENAL BUCCANEERS new Head Coach is DAVID LEWIS
Lewis was a former Avenal HC and now back at it again after coaching for 5 years.
Let’s hope this time around the Avenal administration steps up and helps out the football program.

YOSEMITE BADGERS new Head Coach JOSH WISNIOWSKI
Josh was the head coach at Avenal and never had a chance with a horrible administration and now Josh comes to the worst administration in the Central Section. The good news is Superintendent-Glen Billington is retiring in August and that’s a start to rebuilding Yosemite. Until Principal Stephanie Ozowaki, VP & Ad John Beck, gets on board with Yosemite sports, Josh has zero chance to be successful.

MCFARLAND COUGARS Head Coach will still be MANNY MUNOZ
Head Coach Manny Munoz is back and let’s hope the administration will get behind a coach with plenty of heart. Manny is a good guy who is perfect to build the Cougars football program but the administration has to be on board or the Manny has zero chance to be successful.

CABRILLO CONQUISTADORS New Coach is MITCH CROSSLEY

Mitch Crossley coached at Lemoore and will be wanting to build a football program.

ROSAMOND ROADRUNNERS new Head Coach will be JAMAL CATHCART

CALIFORNIA CITY RAVENS new Head Coach will be JAY GUINYARD

Josh was the head coach at Avenal and never had a chance with a horrible administration and now Josh comes to the worst administration in the Central Section. The good news is Superintendent-Glen Billington is retiring in August and that’s a start to rebuilding Yosemite. Until Principal Stephanie Ozowaki, VP & Ad John Beck, gets on board with Yosemite sports, Josh has zero chance to be successful.

AVENAL BUCCANEERS (1-4) (0-1 West Sierra)
New Head Coach is David Lewis. Coach Lewis returns after coaching the Bucs for 5 years. The Avenal administration is just behind Yosemite with being the worst administration in the state. This team along with head coach Josh Wisniowski never had a chance to reach their full potential and coach Josh will not be back coaching. To all the Avenal football families….Let’s hope it gets better or GET OUT NOW AND TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL. This team will never ever be successful with this administration in place. This administration will never support the football team so it doesn’t matter who coaches, the Buccaneers have ZERO chance to be successful.

TRANQUILITY TIGERS (0-8) (0-4 West Sierra)
The Tigers must play schools that get it like Firebaugh, Mendota, and Dos Palos. Tranquility has the perfect coach with Mike Martinez who has 28 years of coaching experience. Coach is in it for his kids and has had plenty of offers to coach elsewhere but he wants to coach at his alma mater. The outstanding Tranquility principal understands what it takes to build a program so it’s time for the Tranquility administration to step up because it is very simple, do the right thing or end up like Avenal. Senior Gustavo Santos leaves as one of the best offensive linemen to ever play at Tranquility.

PARLIER PANTHERS (0-9) (0-6 West Sequoia)
The problem with Parlier is again another administration issue. If you are keeping score, check on the struggling teams, and I will bet it’s the administrations that simply don’t understand how the kid business works. New head coach Drew Halstead will do what he can and will take the blame for the record, but it starts with the support of the administration. Parlier is in the top 5 as the worst districts for kids.

  • I’m not a big fan of this new ranking system. Does this only apply to the Central Section or the whole CIF?
