THIS YEAR WE WILL HAVE SOUTHERN REGIONAL STATE PLAYOFFS
It will begin right after the Central Section Playoffs. Both Baseball and Softball will start June 22,24 and 26. Games will be played at the home sites
The CIF & PAGMETER Rankings were close with Division 1. Tulare Western should be playing in division 2 since they get no respect after playing in the Clovis Tournament. TW is in a no win situation because they don’t play a division 1 schedule so put the Mustangs in division 2. It’s the fair thing to do.

No 1 BUCHANAN BEARS (29-3) (14-1 TRAC CHAMPIONS) CENTRAL SECTION CHAMPIONS
The Bears are loaded for years to come and will score plenty of runs. The young pitching staff just needs to throw strikes, and everything will be just fine. Junior transfer from El Diamante Austin Watson has been waiting to pitch in a Bears uniform since last year. Junior UCSB commit, Sam Tookoian and junior lefty Max Bernal, are ready for big years. Temo Becerra will be the closer. Senior Christian Williams is ready to be the ace of the staff. Clovis North Sophomore transfer Jayden Mandal who has committed to play baseball at Fresno State (and maybe QB at Fresno State) is the QB on the Bears football team next door. Once football ends, the Bears have another arm/bat ready. The Bears offense has the makings to be the best in school history with future college stars everywhere with Jett Ruby, Austin Young will be future Bulldogs, one of the best lefthanded hitter in the country, Max Bernal can go anywhere he wants, Corbin Ybarra, will play at Washington State, Evan Wallace at UC Irvine, Josh Williams at UCSB, and one of the best lefthanded hitter in the country, junior Max Bernal can go anywhere he wants. Max is uncommuted and every at bat he takes, another college/major league draft wants him. He’s got plenty of time to think about it. You have been warned if you are going to watch a game and that means do not park anywhere outside the left field fence. The very small Bear’s park with the wind always blowing out will see plenty of home run balls and that means broken windows! If a Central Section pitcher can shut this line up down, somebody better be recruiting him!!
No 2 STOCKDALE MUSTANGS (13-5) (11-4 SWYL CHAMPIONS)
The Mustangs are loaded with so much young talent and are praying that we have a real baseball playoff to show it off. Right now, the Kern high school district will not let teams travel out of the area and that is simply wrong. The Mustangs return almost everybody. Head coach Brad Showers and his staff do such a great job, and the Mustangs are fun to watch. Keep an eye on Sophomore Ryan Featherston (3B/P) who already has an offer from Oregon. Ryan is going to be very special and one of the best to ever play at Stockdale. Another Mustang to keep an eye on is 6’5 junior shortstop Austin Charles, who already has an offer from UC Santa Barbara and reminds people of former Clovis Cougars star Jacob Gatewood. Adam Enyart, a Saint Mary’s, commit who would be one of the top catchers in the central section but instead he will be the ace of the staff. Also keep an eye on junior INF Adolph Sykes who has committed to UCSB, sophomore INF Ruben Rodriguez, committed to San Diego State. The X factor is who will step up and take charge at catcher?
No 3 LIBERTY PATRIOTS (16-6) (11-4 SWYL)
If the Patriots get some pitching with this lineup…. watch out! The Patriots can flat out swing the bats and leading the way will be senior Jacob Tobias who had a great sophomore year hitting .454, with 13 doubles, 8 Home Runs and 47 RBI’s. Senior Kaleb Dickey who also had a great sophomore year hitting .433 with 8 doubles, 9 Home Runs and 46 RBI’s. Junior Cutter Coffey comes off a big year hitting.
No 4 MEMORIAL PANTHERS (24-5) (13-2 CMAC CHAMPIONS)
The Panthers finished last year as the No 1 team in the Central Section and the team to beat before the world ended. The Panthers have some tremendous talent and they just just know how to make the big play when the game is on the line and leading the way is the best left-handed hitter in the state with senior Eddie Saldivar (2B/SS) who will play at Long Beach State. Eddie is an old fashion hitter that attacks the baseball. Eddie has hit 3rd in the lineup since his freshman year. Long Beach State is getting a good one. Senior Tanner Sagouspe will play at Cal Poly and is one of the best all-around players in the section. Tanner will catch/play CF and hit cleanup for the 4th year in a row. Tanner is also one of the most dangerous pitchers in the central section.
Junior Mikey Bell is a 3-year starter at SS. Mikey is the Panthers QB but decided to only play baseball this spring and that is a great call. Mikey will hit in the top of the order and has proven to be one of the best shortstops in the section.
Junior Giovanni Blanchette (OF/P) is a St. Mary’s commit- The Jersey Boy/Italian Stallion, is one of the hardest working players in the section and will also pitch.
Keep an eye on first baseman Anthony (Gio) Giannetta who has tremendous power.
Junior lefty Michael Monreal and junior Charlie Monterrosa will be a big part of the Panthers success on the hill.
Senior Josh Castro is the ace of the staff. Josh has proven to be a big game pitcher.
No 5 BULLARD KNIGHTS (25-5-1) (13-2 CMAC)
Bullard hardball is back! New head coach Tom Donald who coached 20 years for the Buchanan Bears (485-135-6) building a national powerhouse, winning 6 central section championships, 10 TRAC Titles and 2 national championships brings over that toughness that the Knights have missed. The Knights coaching staff is very good with the legend coach Mike Noakes (708 wins, 5 central section championships) former Bullard great power hitter, Brett Jones, pitching coach Bobby Waits, who went 21-0 in his Bullard career, Anthony Telesco who also had a nice career in a Knights uniform and Jersey Boy and future Bullard hall of fame pitcher Jake Pizzo.
This Knights team is a mixture of Donald’s mental/physical toughness and Coach Noakes, Bullard Knights (Hum Baby) Hardball.
The Knights have some talented youth and veteran returners led by a group of seniors who want to win. Senior SS Brady Zavorek who will play at San Diego State has tremendous speed/power/RBI machine. Brady is the team leader/hard worker and is setting a great example for the young Knights. The pitching staff will be very good and leading the way will be hard throwing senior righthander Ace Cam Cunnings, who also will play first base. Cam is a hard throwing righthander and if he is on, he can dominate anybody. Lefty James Appleford who when he is on his game, he is as good as any lefty in the central section with a nasty curveball,
RHP William Lawton, throws a submarine pitch with tremendous movement, junior RHP Jakob Ybarra, loves to pitch in big games and look for sophomore (3B) hard throwing righthander Cam Schneider to be the closer. The Knights can play tremendous defense, has plenty of team speed and can all swing the bat with plenty of power. The Bullard Knights are back with outfielders Colin Rios (3-year starter) Michael Collins (left-handed power bat that possess a strong arm) Travis Preston (outstanding athlete, one of the best centerfielders in the section and will pitch). Diego Ruiz (very good defensive outfielder), Mathew Montoya (3-year starter inf/P) Cameron Reeve (solid defensive 3B/inf/P), will play at York college and keep an eye on junior Mark Baca who can hit and pitch. The catcher will be a battle with freshman Jake Porter and Edgar Gastelum.
Freshman infielder Beckett Zavorek who verbally committed to play at Stanford will get plenty of playing time because he is GOOD! The Knights X factor, playing against the top TRAC teams has been their kryptonite. Can they get over the stuff between the ears?
No 6 CLOVIS NORTH BRONCOS (18-10) (9-6 TRAC)
The Broncos have the makings to be very good if the offense step up. Broncos ace Caden Larsen, a 4-year varsity guy is sideline with an injury so stay tuned on when he comes back. Keep an eye on junior Kyle Jimenez who will now be the guy with great control and competes.
Junior catcher Derrick Cruz, great at blocking balls and very consistent with catching the pitching staff. Derrick has gap power and currently being recruited by plenty.
Senior 1B Blake King, Led the team in HR’s last year. Team leader and solid defender. Heading to FCC next year.
Rees Kent (St Mary’s commit) is a 3-year varsity guy who can run, turned into a great 3B and one of CN top hitters.
Isaiah Munoz (St Mary’s commit) has really improved his defense and can swing the bat.
Junior Cole Fellows (Columbia commit) has power/speed and works his tail off.
Senior Ivan Ruiz can play anywhere in the infield and can also catch.
Junior Hunter Jansen, (OF/P) is coming off a minor elbow injury that sidelined him most of last year, can play anywhere in the
outfield with speed and power.
Senior Ryan Vance (OF/P) is a legit 6.5 runner and can run them down in the outfield.
Junior Nick Shows (3B/OF) really looks good. Other guys to keep an eye on are senior pitcher Ryan Vance, freshman Jayden Hertel (INF/RHP) who is being recruited by Fullerton, Alabama, Tulane, among other,
junior Hunter Jansen, senior Jonah Wong, senior Nate Lucas, and junior Collin Deborde, who all will be a big part of the Broncos pitching staff.
No 7 CLOVIS WEST GOLDEN EAGLES (17-11-1) (7-8 TRAC)
Last year’s Golden Eagles team was one of the best in school history and would have contended for a central section championship. This year’s team is very young with some outstanding talent. Watch out for CW in 2022! The Golden Eagles will get better and better in every game with a lot of new faces mixed in with 12 returning varsity guys. Sophomore slugger Cayden Munster returns for his 2nd varsity season and juniors Jake Haros, Nate Baeza and Nick Almanza return for their 3rd varsity season. Almanza might be the fastest player that the Golden Eagles have had since hall of famer McKay Christensen. Junior transfer Kaleb Latimer (Calabasas) is an exciting player who will make an impact. Freshman transfer Marc Anthony Carroll (Central) is a slick defender and sophomore Logan Pontecorvo has been impressive with the bat early on.
The pitching staff is inexperienced but will improve. Seniors Jacob Floth (FPU) and Chase Barsotti (Menlo) return and a lot of youngsters have shown promise on the mound. A star is born with freshman Tyler Patrick, and by the time he graduates, TP will be one of the best to ever play at Clovis West. Sophomores Dylan Senneway, Munster, and junior Colby Robertson have been impressive early. Baeza and Haros will also pitch.
No 8 CLOVIS COUGARS (15-14) (5-10 TRAC)
The Cougars are still the defending central section champions from 2019. This year’s team is very young, very competitive and will battle for 7 strong innings. The Cougars do not have very many At-Bats or Innings Pitchers returning, but what the Cougars do have is a bunch of hard-working homegrown kids who should end up being a scrappy bunch. Some of the senior leaders are: (SS) Logan Sumter (Fresno Pacific), (P/3B) Brayden Nicholson, (1B/OF) Mick Backowski, (RHP) Drew Steinhardt. Keep an eye on the new Cougars with junior (C) Garrett Garfield, sophomores (C/OF) Brody McAvoy, (INF) Eli Henderson.
No 9 REDWOOD RANGERS (15-12) (9-6 WYL)
The Rangers can flat out pitch with senior ace (RHP) Ethan Garcia, Long Beach commit, junior (RHP) Daniel Parker, Washington State commit. Senior (RHP) Chase Banks Willamette commit. Sophomore Joey Volchko a Stanford commit. Senior (IF) Lee Trevino, Dominguez Hills commit. Senior (IF) Diego Alvarado Oregon State commit. Players to watch: Senior (OF) Dakota Brown, sophomore (OF) Daryl Tillman Jr., (IF) Joey Rico, (OF/C/RHP) Bo Rico and (OF) Silas Beltran. If the Rangers can swing the bats, then the Rangers will have a very good year.
No 10 SAN LUIS OBISPO TIGERS (16-9) (12-6 MOUNTAIN)
The Tigers graduated some stars, and this 2021 team will be very young. Leading the way will be seniors Jackson Gomes, Ethan Morris. Grant Kromhout, Gannon Gibson and Jack Walter. Looking to have a breakout year will be juniors Hogan Benson, and Ayden Kim.
No 11 CENTENNIAL GOLDEN HAWKS (12-7) (10-5 SWYL)
The Golden Hawks will have plenty of returning players and leading the way is senior ace Tim Ruiz. Keep an eye on seniors Kaden Solf, Peter Alamillo, Ryan Redstone, Spencer Jenkins, Ethan Hunter, juniors Drew Townson, & Ryan Redstone, and sophomores Jordan Mora & Trenton Hernandez.
No 12 FRONTIER TITANS (8-8) (8-7 SWYL)
The Titans baseball program is the real deal! The Titans are ready to get after it and will be young. Leading the Titans will be junior Dylan Smith.
No 13 TULARE WESTERN MUSTANGS (19-9) (11-1 EYL CHAMPIONS)
The Mustangs are very young, running a skeleton crew until April 17th and playing the toughest schedule by far in the south valley with 14 players. TW has six seniors; one has a broken collar bone and three are playing football. The Mustangs love to compete and will battle. In 16 years since coach Ken Searcy has been coaching, this is one of the most competitive, hardest working teams he has had. Top Returners are Senior Chase Gomez (football) Util / DH, junior Jack Anker SS-P, junior BJ Rodriquez OF- junior JT Torrez 3B, junior Lincoln Jimenez C. Top Mustangs Newcomers are sophomore James Corral Util/P, sophomore Drew Gonzales OF/C, freshman Justin Cuellar P/1B, junior Sonny Pena (transfer) P- Util.
No 14 CLOVIS EAST T WOLVES (10-17) (5-10 TRAC)
The T Wolves were going to be very good in 2020 but the world ended and so did the baseball season. Coach Ryan Smith and his staff are doing a tremendous job competing in the tough TRAC. The T Wolves will need the seniors to step up in 2021 if CE wants to have a good year. The X factor is the pitching staff with senior Caiden Duff, juniors Jacob Crain, Tre Williams, and Cruz Cabral. Keep an eye on slugger junior Alex Righetti and senior Tomas Canales.
No 15 CENTRAL GRIZZLIES (10-17) (5-10 TRAC)
This is one of the best Grizzlies team and will get better every game. Leading the way will be Andrew Perales and Dean McCurley who are both 4-year starters and the heart of the offense with plenty of power. Senior OF Williams Bastos will also be a key as he has some real pop in his bat. The Strength of this Grizzlies team is the depth of pitching which is anchored by junior St. Mary’s commit Ryan Spalliero who can bring it with a great slider, Senior transfer Nate Nino, who has 3 pitches and has hit 90 mph a couple of times, Dean McCurley is 84/87 with a great change up/curve ball, and Andrew Perales can throw the kitchen sink at you and will give the Grizzlies a good shot.
The Grizzlies are hoping for good things from sophomore lefty Devin Garza who is 84 up to 89 mph, Sophomore Dallan Alles, will fill big brother Trent’s shoes behind the plate now that he is at Sacramento State and he has the potential to be special.
Playing sound defense and putting together some runs will be key for the Grizzlies.
No 16 RIGHETTI HIGH WARRIORS (11-17) (6-12 MOUNTAIN)
The Warriors will be young with only 3 seniors and leading the way is senior OF Quigley Espinola who has speed, power and will lead off. Max Frantz is looking to have a big year; catcher Andrew Gonzalez is the team leader and Gavin Long brings in the work ethic and will play middle infield. The pitching staff will be led by juniors Copper Bagby and Chris Miller.
