From a Grizzly Bear to a Golden Bear

From the 559 to 510 is where WR Jeremiah Hunter looks to make his mark. Last summer, former Central Grizzlies Star Wide-Receiver Jeremiah Hunter made his commitment to the University of California, Berkeley. Through his Senior season Jeremiah stuck with his decision despite having offers from Oregon, Utah, Fresno State, and other PAC-12 and Mountain West schools. Jeremiah will be now officially playing for the Golden Bears this upcoming 2020 season. Jeremiah Stated, “I picked Berkeley because it felt like home to me and they told me I would have a high chance of being on the field early.”
The 6’2”, 4-star WR is coming off a spectuare senior season. Jeremiah had 79 catches for nearly 1200 yards and 16 touchdowns. Jeremiah also helped the Central Grizzlies to their 3rd straight section title and the school’s first ever State Championship. Hunter finished his high school career with over 200 catches, 3330 receiving yards, and 50 touchdowns. The star WR looks to keep his success going at Cal Berkeley. Jeremiah said, “my goal is to have a 100 yards and score a touchdown every game this upcoming season.” But for Jeremiah, putting up great numbers isn’t the only thing he has his mind on – “I want to start as a true freshman and I want to win the Rose Bowl.”
The Golden Bears are coming off an 8-5 season (4-5) in conference play. Three of the 5 losses were decided by 10 points or less. One area that the Golden Bears struggled last season was on Offense. Cal averaged 21.2 points per game which was ranked 113th in the nation. With Jeremiah coming in, this offense will receive a huge boost from him. Hunter is a pragmatic and athletic playmaker and is unstoppable with yards after catch. He shares some the players he models his game after, “If I had to choose who I model my game after, I would say Justin Jefferson – we are so much alike but I also try to pull stuff from Keenan Allen, Devante Adams, Odell, Jarvis, Diggs, and many others because I try to take from them what makes them so good.” It is clear the Golden Bears are getting a special player in Jeremiah Hunter.

As Jeremiah looks to set new marks and break records at Berkeley, being a Golden Bear is much more than just football. “I look up to my parents because they do whatever it takes to put food on our table and the clothes on my sister’s and our backs,” Jeremiah shares. But for Hunter he is representing much more than just himself, “It means a lot to me — not that much love has been given to the 559; we have a bunch of talent filled with hard workers, but because we don’t have hype around our name they don’t look at us. It just feels good to be a part of the players trying to put Fresno on the map for the next generation of young athletes.” While places like Fresno are often overlooked, athletes like Jeremiah make it hard to overlook the athletic circuit within Fresno; there are generations of athletes that have come from Fresno, and this is only going to continue to grow with the influence of athletes like Jeremiah putting a spotlight on their hometowns like Fresno in the Central Valley.
As the season is scheduled to start in a little under a month and half, Hunter says he has been running routes with his teammates to stay in shape. The Golden Bear fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead – Jeremiah Hunter suits up as a big time playmaker who loves to put on a show; most importantly, he is a winner. With a lot of talent coming back on Offense and new pieces added, this Golden Bears could make a lot of noise in the Pac-12.
