PAG METER DIVISION 1 BASEBALL 2020 RANKINGS & NOTES

No 1 Memorial Panthers (8-1) (0-0 CMAC)
The Panthers move into division 1 and already playing a killer schedule.
This Panthers team might just be the best hitting team in the section and leading the way is the Pag Meter football player of the year Mac Dalena. The Panthers lead off hitter and spark plug last year hit .391 with 28 stolen bases. Mac’s job is to get on base. The No 2 hitter will be Jalen McMillan who will be playing football at the University of Washington and who is back out playing baseball after not playing last year and is a really good in CF. Once Jalen figures out that he’s a better baseball player than football & that’s saying a lot, the sky’s the limit in baseball. The No 3 hitter is the best hitter in the section and that is Junior Eddie Saldivar, who comes in after hitting .352, 7 doubles, 35 RBI’S. Eddie is outstanding at 2nd base and has verbally committed to play at Long Beach State.
Junior Tanner Sagouape, is the cleanup hitter and comes off a sophomore year hitting.430 with 38 RBI’S and will be the closer. Senior leader Tyler Davis, is a fantastic catcher and one heck of a hitter. If Tyler has a big senior year, the Panthers will be in great shape. Look for Joey Bell to have a big year.
The Panthers X factor is the young pitching staff. If junior Josh Castro, and senior Jayden Jones both have big years, so will the Panthers.

No 2 Buchanan Bears (9-1) (0-0 TRAC)
The Bears come with the youngest team in Buchanan history. The Bears also have a young coaching staff to go along with HC Brad Fontes, All Star 3rd base coach Bryan Marsoobian, pitching coach Jimmy Wilson and Joe Kemp. The new coaches were all Pag Meter All Stars with Dominic Topoozian, Braden Frankfort, Ian Ross, Colton Worthington, and Ross Dodd. The Bears only have 4 seniors and one of them will be ace Isaac Ayon who last year went 8-0 with a 1.43 ERA and will pitch at Oregon next year. Ayon will be the guy that the Bears will lean on in the big games.
Leading the offense will be junior Temo Becerra, who has verbally committed to play at Stanford. This kid is special.
After he sits out 30 days with transferring in from El Diamante, look for RHP sophomore Austin Watson, to be the No 2 pitcher. 6’3 Senior Chris Lenocker, will get plenty of starts on the hill this year. Sophomore Max Bernal, Evan Wallace, and Colby Evans will also get some innings. Junior Austin Young, at catcher will be very good and has a great arm. The outfield will be one of the fastest in the Central Section with sophomores (RF) Corbin Ybarra, (LF) Sky Collins & (CF) Josh Williams who can fly.
The Bears X factor, If the young guy can swing it, watch out!

No 3 Frontier Titans (8-1-1) (0-0 SWYL)
The Titans are loaded with talent.
Leading the Titans will be Seniors Brock Calvillo & Kris Anglin. When Anglin is not playing 1st base, Kris who has signed with CSU Bakersfield, will be pitching and the Titans ace can beat anybody. Kris last year fired a one-hit shutout over the No 1 seed Buchanan in the semi’s. He finished 6-3 with a 3.18 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 55 innings. The No 2 guy is Tommy Hopfe, who is real good and is also tremendous behind the plate.
The Titans X factor is the offense because the pitching is good!

No 4 Clovis North Broncos (8-2) (0-0 TRAC) Coca Cola Classic Champions
The Broncos come into 2020 with a tremendous pitching staff and defense.
One of the best lefties in the State is senior Riley Cooper who will play for the University of Arizona. His junior year he went 8-1 with a 1.61 ERA in 72 innings. Riley broke the single season school record for strikeouts with 95 breaking his record from 2018 at 91. For his career, Riley has struck out 270 batters and becomes the strikeout king in Broncos history passing Jack Labosky.
Ryan O’Hara is looking really good and already hitting 90 +mph. Junior lefty Caden Larsen is also ready to have a big year. If the Broncos want to be playing at Fresno State on championship weekend, O’Hara and Larsen will need big years pitching. Nolan Inouye and Cason Brownell will lead the Broncos on offense and both have committed to play for Masters University. Last year Nolan Hit .386 with 7 doubles and leading the team with 26 RBI’s Keep an eye on sophomore Infielder Isaiah Munoz who has verbally committed to play at St Mary’s. Blake Asadoor will be playing baseball next year at McPherson college and can swing the bat.
The Broncos X factor can they score enough runs to go along with a tremendous staff?
No 5 Clovis West Golden Eagles (7-2) (0-0 TRAC)
The Golden Eagles will have a couple of the top pitchers in the section with Noah Galvan & Ixan Henderson (CF) who both will play at Fresno State unless they sign. Noah went 6-2 with a 1.63 ERA last year. The Golden Eagles are expecting big things from senior shortstop Bradley Senneway along with their senior leaders catcher Hayden Driggs, who will play at St. Mary’s, left fielder Tanner Ewell and 1st baseman/pitcher Art Navarette.
The Golden Eagles X factor can the Golden Eagles score runs to go along with a tremendous pitching staff

No 6 Clovis Cougars (7-3) (0-0 TRAC)
The defending Central Section Champions have a new head coach. Legend James Patrick has retired and son Chris takes over. The Champions come in with plenty of talent and will challenge again for a title. The Cougars return plenty and leading the way will be senior Miles Henderson who has verbally committed to play at Masters college. Last year Miles hit .356 with 26 hits, 4 doubles, 12 runs scored and 15 RBI’s. Miles is also the closer who last year went 7 for 7 in saves with a 1.48 ERA.
The Cougars ace will be senior Noah Beal who will play at UNLV and he is real good and the Cougars are expecting big things from senior pitcher Ian Mortensen. All Star catcher Darrien Miller is now playing in the Milwaukee Brewers Organization so keep an eye on senior leader Koby Kropf behind the plate. If the Cougars want to get back to Fresno State, they will need seniors right fielder Ryan Tiger, 2nd basemen Jalen White, center fielder Trent Avitia, juniors left fielder Andrew Dowie, and 3rd basemen Brayden Nicholson to all step up and have big years.
The Cougars X Factor is the offense. Beal & Mortensen can beat anybody in the state when they are on.

No 7 Liberty Patriots (5-4) (0-0 SWYL)
The Patriots can flat out swing the bats and leading the way will be junior Jacob Tobias who had a great sophomore year hitting .454, with 13 doubles, 8 Home Runs and 47 RBI’s. By the time Jacob graduates he will have some huge numbers!! Junior Kaleb Dickey, last year hit .433 with 8 doubles, 9 Home Runs and 46 RBI’s. Sophomore Cutter Coffey, comes off a big year hitting .361. Last year the Patriots as a team hit .364.
The X factor is the Patriots pitching staff because this team can swing the bats.

No 8 Stockdale Mustangs (5-2-1) (0-0 SWYL)
The young Mustangs will return all 9 starters from last year, and are very good. The Mustangs will have senior Brady Salyard as the early ace and keep an eye on freshmen Ryan Featherston who already has an offer from Oregon. Ryan is going to be very special and one of the best to ever play at Stockdale. 6’2 Junior Owen Nagel, is fantastic behind the plate and the Mustangs team leader. Another Mustang to keep an eye on is 6’5 sophomore shortstop Austin Charles, who already has an offer from UC Santa Barbara and reminds people of former Clovis Cougars star Jacob Gatewood. A big game early for Stockdale will be on March 3 at Memorial and should be a good one.
The X factor for the young Mustangs will be pitching. This team will get better and better and by playoff time, watch out!

No 9 Righetti High Warriors (4-4) (0-0 MOUNTAIN)
The Warriors come in with a very good team with plenty of returners and leading the way will be seniors Caleb Dulay. Caleb was perfect in 2019 with a 10-0 record & 0.55 ERA. Senior RHP Ryan Delgado, who will play at Cal Baptist, could be the key to get the Warriors at Fresno State.
Leading the way with the bats will be senior Jake Steels and junior Quigley Espinola.
The Warriors will be traveling to the valley at Stockdale, Centennial, Clovis & Clovis West.
The X factor is the pitching staff especially after Dulay & Delgado.

No 10 Central Grizzlies (6-3) (0-0 TRAC)
The Grizzlies are the sleeper team and as the makings to be a contender. Pretty much everyone on the hill returns from a really good pitching staff with seniors Ryan Wiltse Ronny Rockey and Abe Milam. The Grizzlies will also have a healthy Dean Mccurley back and hoping to get him locked in on the mound as well. A lot of people always underestimate the Grizzlies but look for the offense and approach at the plate to be a lot better this year. Leading the way will be Junior Andrew Perales, senior catcher Trent Alles, who has a cannon behind the plate & will be playing at Sac State, senior Elijah Cortez, who has enormous power, & senior Javen Gonzalez is outstanding in the outfield. Look for the Grizzlies to make some big noise in 2020. Tom Goodwin Field has had a complete makeover and the facility is first class.
The Grizzlies X factor is the team believing that they are just as good if not better than any team in the TRAC.

No 11 Centennial Golden Hawks (5-4) (0-0 SWYL) Terrio Classic Champions
The Golden Hawks will be young but will have plenty of senior leadership with Daniel Felix, Zach Payne, and Kurtis Gustafson. Coming back after tremendous sophomore years will be Drew Townson, Tim Ruiz & Ryan Redstone. Keep an eye freshmens Jordan Mora & Trenton Hernandez.
The Golden Hawks X factor is the pitching staff.

No 12 Bullard Knights (4-6) (0-0 CMAC)
The Knights have a brand new coaching staff to go along with Head coach Aaron Weimer. Legend Mike Noakes is back and gets to coach at his field that is named after him. Also on the staff is Buchanan legend Tom Donald who turned the Bears into a national powerhouse. The Knights culture is changing back to Bullard hardball.
The Knights ace is junior Nikko Rangel and he is good. Look for the offers to start pouring in. Senior Cyrus Zamora, has the makings to be really good on the hill.
Junior shortstop Brady Zavorak, already has verbally committed to play at San Diego State and will lead the Knights offensive attack.
The X factor the Knights must swing the bats to win games.

No 13 Tulare Western Mustangs (3-6) (0-0 EYL)
The Mustangs will come in with plenty of potential and young talent everywhere.
Leading the way for the Mustangs and one of the fastest players in the section will be Nate Marroquin who will be playing at Fresno State next year. Last year Nate broke the school record for stolen bases with 27 and scored 27 runs. Look for Nate to pitch as well.
If the Mustangs want to make a run at a championship they will need big years at the plate from seniors TJ Martinez, Chase Gomez, Nathan Martinho, and Cole Silva. Some of the young guys to keep an eye on will be sophomore BJ BJ Rodriguez,
The Mustangs pitching staff has the makings to be very good and leading the way will be ace Noah Munoz, who was the EYL pitcher of the year and who has transferred in from Porteville. Sophomore Jack Anker has the potential to be very good and can swing the bat.
The Mustangs X factor will be the young pitchers stepping up.

No 14 Clovis East T Wolves (4-4) (0-0 TRAC)
The T Wolves come into 2020 with some big time confidence. 3rd year coach Ryan Smith and his staff are building a baseball culture from the ground up.
Senior leader and ace Tyler Parker, is back after a tremendous junior year finishing with a 2.39 ERA in 63 innings. One of the best outfielders in the section will be AJ Hodgerney. Both Tyler and AJ will being playing at Fresno Pacific
Some other T Wolves to keep an eye on will be senior pitchers Giovanni Helmuth, and Elijah Acosta along with senior shortstop Elias Mart, and senior catcher Josh Sue.
The T Wolves X factor is the offense and the new junior starters stepping up.

No 15 San Luis Obispo Tigers (5-0) (0-0 MOUNTAIN)
The Tigers were very good last year & had two of best senior pitchers in the state with Cooper Benson and Brooks Lee. Former Bullard Knight All Star and Tigers head coach Brian Wong has it going on at SLO. Last year’s team was all about pitching with strikeouts. This year’s Tigers team Is going to be more of a grind it out mentality.
Leading the way will be 3-sport athlete & Pag Meter football & basketball all star with senior center fielder Emilio Corona, who will be playing baseball at the University of Washington.
The potential ace could be Milo Merk who is coming back from an arm injury last year and Dane Truer who is coming back with added velocity and will help out the pitching staff a lot.
The Tigers X factor is the swinging the bats.

No 16 Redwood Rangers (2-7) (0-0 WYL)
The Rangers will be VERY young and will possibly have 2-3 freshmen that will contribute this season. They will have junior ace Ethan Garcia, who got plenty of valuable pitching experience last season. Ethan who has verbally committed to play at Long Beach State has to stay calm playing with so many young players.
Look for the Rangers to get better and better each week.
The Rangers X factor is finding the No 2 starter that most likely will come from the young pool of Soph/Frosh.
