DIVISION 2 PAG METER BASEBALL RANKINGS & NOTES

No 1 Arroyo Grande Eagles (8-1) (0-0 MOUNTAIN)
Plenty of the pitching staff returns and the Eagles have the potential to be very good with plenty of returners. For the Eagles, the lineup is led by juniors 1B Justin Trimble, and RF Ethan Royal along with seniors SS Brady Lacheman and CF Braden Zickuhr. Andrew Mccoy is the ace of the pitching staff. Keep an eye on 6’ 5” 225 junior Zach Silva who will pitch & DH. Zach is 86 mph but should be touching 90 by the end of the year.
The Eagles X factor is pitching because the Eagles can swing the bats.

No 2 Hanford Bullpups (5-3) (1-0 WYL)
The Bullpups will be really good now that winter sports are done. Look for the Bullpups to start slow and come on strong and could be the team to beat in the WYL. The Bullpups will bring back plenty of returning starters. Leading way will be senior ace Juaron Watts-Brown, who had a 1.88 ERA last year and will be playing baseball at Long Beach State and majoring in Psychology.
He will come into 2020 as one of the top pitchers in the state. The No 2 starter could be junior Ethan Guevara.
The Bullpups X factor will be the offense because last year they struggled scoring runs.

No 3 El Diamante Miners (5-5) (0-1 WYL)
The Miners return 7 starters and will have senior ace Riley Creech, who went 5-0 last year with a 1.59 ERA. Keep an eye on junior Rider Hartman who could be pitching a lot. Junior Austin Beno, will also play outfield and pitch.
The Miners X factor will be the pitching after Creech. They will have to depend on arms that threw very few Varsity innings.

No 4 Fresno High Warriors (5-4-1) (0-0 NYL)
The Warriors are always the NYL favorite and Jason Papi and his staff do such a tremendous job with the baseball program. The Warriors have had one the best Fresno Unified programs the last 30 years.
The Warriors will be young and will have plenty of talent.
Leading the way will be senior Cameron Brown, who had a big year for the NYL Champions hitting .418 with 7 doubles, 15 stolen bases, 1 home run, and knocked in 19 runs. Junior Kai Young, comes in after hitting .380 with 8 doubles, and knocked in 20 runs.
Leading the way with pitching will be junior Anthony Clark who last year went 8-2 with a 1.37 ERA & Erick Lopez, who can also swing the bat. Keep an eye on Chris Cook, Brandon Arredondo, & Elbert Vargas who will lead the Warriors offensive attack.
The Warriors X factor is the young Warriors stepping up

No 5 Edison Tigers (5-4-1) (0-0 CMAC)
The Tigers were very young last year. Look for senior Josh Allison, to be the Tigers ace. The Tigers always will play a tough schedule & now move into division 3 so never go by the Tigers record. The Tigers will be battle tested by playoff time.
The Tigers X factor is cut down on the errors & avoiding the big inning on defense. If that happens, nobody in division 3 will want to play the Tigers in the playoffs.

No 6 Mt Whitney Pioneers (5-3) (0-0 WYL)
The Pioneers will be VERY young. Majority of the lineup will be underclassmen & leading the way will be OF/1B/SP Aiden Carney.
The Pioneers X factor is they have a huge hole to fill on the mound after losing their top of the rotation to graduation.

No 7 Madera Coyotes (3-5-1) (0-0 CMAC)
Now that winter sport is done, the Coyotes will be really good because there are 4 starters, SS, 3B, RF and the Coyotes Ace that will strap up the cleats. Look for the Coyotes to start slow and come on strong by playoff time. This Coyotes team has the makings to be playing at Fresno State on championship weekend. The good news is this gives some of the other young players a chance to shine early in the year.
The Coyotes are expecting big things from senior pitchers Kristian Gomez, Alek Trukki and junior Nate Martinez. The defense will return 5 starters. Offensively the Coyotes have plenty of team speed along with some power. It’s a perfect combination with speed and power. Some guys to keep an eye on will be senior Jonathan Ramirez, who ran a 6.4 60 yds…and will be the leadoff hitter. Some Coyotes that could have big years with Senior Raymond Perez, juniors Nathan Palocioz & David Monge & sophomore Logan Wattenbarger.
The Coyotes X factor will be the offense because the pitching & defense are always good.

No 8 Paso Robles Bearcats (4-2) (0-0 MOUNTAINS)
Plenty of Bearcats return and leading the way will be junior Jakob Wright, who hit .406. The pitching will be young and will get better and better each week. Leading the way could be sophomore Carson Turnquist.
The Bearcats X factor will be the youth stepping up.

No 9 Sanger Apaches (4-4) (0-0 CMAC)
The Apaches graduated the best class in school history and will be pretty young this year. Leading the way for the Apaches will be senior (P SS) Nathan Padilla, & Junior (P,SS) Mason Lopez. Right now the Apaches have 4 sophomores in the lineup with Markie Botello, Tiz Moreno, Joey Rodriguez, and Andrew Herrera. Head coach David Cuellar and his staff do such a great job and by playoff time, the Apaches will be very good.
The Apaches X factor will be scoring runs.

No 10 Highland Scots (3-6) (0-0 SEYL)
The defending division 3 champions will now test the waters in division 2 and the Scots are good! This is another team that will get better now that winter sports are over. The Scots bring back their ace with senior Isiah Fajardo, who went 4-0 with a 0.77 ERA. At the plate Isiah hit .484 with 18 doubles, & 36 stolen bases.
Senior Manuel Chavez, is really good after hitting .429 with 9 doubles and 29 RBI’s. Junior Antoine Cleveland will play everywhere.
Senior and team captain Nick Salas, is a speedster after hitting last year .470, with 12 doubles, 3 triples, scored 42 runs with 26 stolen bases.

No 11 Tehachapi Warriors (4-3) (0-0 SYL)
Plenty of Warriors return including junior Jake Tye, who went 6-2 last year & Grant Cowan.
The Warriors X factor is the pitching and if the Warriors can swing the bat, they will be a contender
No 12 Bakersfield Drillers (2-6) (0-0 SWYL)
The Drillers will be young all over the place. Keep an eye on junior Jake Rimmer, and sophomore Sebastian Alvidrez, who are off to a great start.

No 13 Tulare Union Tribe (1-6) (0-0 EYL)
The Tribe lost some very good pitchers and will have senior ace Aaron Moran.
The Tribe X factor will be scoring runs

No 14 Sunnyside Wildcats (2-11) (0-0 NYL)
The Wildcats last year struggled because they played the toughest schedule in division 2. The Wildcats should be better in 2020, especially after the Coca Cola classic.
