DIVISION 5 PAG METER 2020 BASEBALL RANKINGS & NOTES
No 1 Delano Tigers (5-1-1) (0-0 EAST YOSEMITE)
The Tigers are a team to watch out for and the pitching looks good with seniors Nathaniel Cardenas, Daniel Loera, Guadalupe Leyva, & juniors Aaron Cavasos, and Casey Jasso Jr.
No 2 Caruthers Blue Raiders (4-1-1) (0-0 WEST SEQUOIA)
This Blue Raiders team will be very good and leading the way will be Pag Meter football All Star senior Bobby Staley. The Brew crew can hit with Staley, Cameron Demaria, Orin Hirschkorn, and Brady Pease.
The Blue Raiders X factor is who can pitch after ace Orin Hirschkorn?
No 3 Arvin Bears (4-3) (0-0 SOUTH SEQUOIA)
Sophomore ace Lloyd Tinoco can also swing the bat. Isaiah Moreno and Junior Casas have plenty of power. If Cesar Ramirez has a big year pitching, so will the Tigers.
No 4 McLane Highlanders (6-0) (0-0 NORTH YOSEMITE)
The Highlanders will always battle you.
No 5 Washington Union Panthers (4-7) (0-0 NORTH SEQUOIA)
The Panthers were off to a great start with Head Coach Mike Gaza and his staff at building a baseball culture but the Washington Union school board fired Coach Mike for building a baseball culture and when the school board has players on the team that have not bought into the baseball way of life, then it’s much easier to fire the coach then build a baseball program. The Panthers played the toughest schedule by far in division 5. It’s simple out at Union, play the school board players or not coach. The Washington Union School board needs to be removed because this is simply corruption. There is a petition at Union to remove the school board members and I would suggest you sign it.
No 6 Mira Monte Lions (4-3-1) (0-0 SOUTHEAST YOSEMITE)
The Lions are playing an early tough schedule with a pretty young team. Off to nice starts are juniors Jr Valdez, & John Alderete.
No 7 Corcoran Panthers (5-5) (0-0 EAST SEQUOIA)
The Panthers X factor will be the pitching staff especially after junior ace Herman Luna who last year had a 1.71 ERA with an 8-2 record. 53 IP with 73 K’s. At the plate he had 24 RBI’s with 9 Doubles.
No 8 Minarets Mustangs (2-7) (0-0 WEST SIERRA)
The Mustangs move into Division 4. Minarets is the classic overachieving team that should never be in D4 with schools like Golden West and Lemoore. The Mustangs will be young all over the place & always has talent coming up. Head coach Jesse Darrah and his staff have turned Minarets into a tremendous baseball school. The Mustangs will host the No 1 team in the section, Clovis North Broncos on March 3rd in the Foundation Game. Last year the Mustangs beat Clovis North in the biggest upset in central section history.
No 9 Lindsay Cardinals (4-4) (0-0 EAST SEQUOIA)
The Cardinals only have 2 seniors and now that winter sports are done, watch out for the Red Birds. The Pitching staff will be good with senior Aaron Macias, junior Eddie Frias, & freshman Gio Chavez.
No 10 Bishop Union Broncos (3-2-1) (0-0 HIGH DESERT)
The defending Division 6 Champs hit .430 as a team last year but lost some quality offensive stars with graduation. Most of the pitching staff returns with juniors Landon Kruse, and Ace Elters.
No 11 Coalinga Horned Toads (4-6) (0-0 WEST SIERRA)
The Toads will have junior ace Andres Lucero so the X factor will be the rest of the staff.
No 12 Mendota Aztecs (3-6) (0-0 WEST SIERRA)
Young team that will compete
No 13 Rosamond Roadrunners (1-4) (0-0 HIGH DESERT)
The Roadrunners can swing the bat and if the pitching comes through, then watch out. Junior Sebastian Mercado and senior Richard Rivas will be leading the Roadrunners.
No 14 Sierra Chieftains (2-5) (0-0 NORTH SEQUOIA)
The Chieftains have plenty returning and leading the way will be Nic Torres.
No 15 McFarland Cougars (2-5) (0-0 SOUTH SEQUOIA)
The Cougars are hoping to be better this year
No 16 West Vikings (0-10) (0-0 SOUTH YOSEMITE)
Leading the way will be junior Isaac Cervantez. The Vikings are looking for some pitching to step up.
