DIVISION 4 PAG METER 2020 BASEBALL RANKINGS & NOTES
No 1 Golden West Trailblazers (8-1) (0-0 WEST YOSEMITE)
Plenty of Blazers return from last year. GW moves into division 4 and off to a great start. GW has a few transfers in from Redwood that should help them. Leading the way pitching will be seniors Tyce Ochs, Alize Alvarez. Sophomore Mathhew Gonzales, has some power and speed.
The X factor will be the Blazers pitching because the offense is good.
No 2 Bakersfield Christian Eagles (4-4) (0-0 SOUTH YOSEMITE)
Watch out for the Eagles in 2020 because almost everybody is coming back including senior Kyle Langston who hit .422 with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 1 homer and 28 RBI’s. He also threw 69 innings with a 2.23 ERA. Senior Milo Vilialobos, who did it all at the plate and pitching. He hit 12 doubles and led the team in RBI’s with 32. Pitching he went 3-2 with a 2.38 ERA in 47 innings. Keep an eye on junior Daniel Paul, who is off to a great start at the plate.
The Eagles X factor will be some of the young players stepping up.
No 3 Monache Marauders (8-2) (0-0 EAST YOSEMITE)
The Monache is off to a great start and scoring runs. Monache is always coached up.
The X factor can the Monache keep it up playing in the tough EYL. 6’4 Senior Tori Powell is ready to lead the Marauders.
No 4 Central Valley Christian Cavaliers (5-3) (0-1 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
The Cavaliers will be very young with only 2 seniors. CVC will have a young pitching staff with juniors Rafe Van Gronigen, Jake Griffith, and sophomores Luke Giotta & Jace Vargas. Leading the offense will be junior Carson Pimental who last year hit .403 and scored 23 runs with 7 doubles.
No 5 Taft Wildcats (5-2) (0-0 SOUTH SEQUOIA) Terrio Classic Champions
The Wildcats will be really good this year and are thinking Fresno State. This team can hit. Leading the way is sophomore Logun Clark who had one heck of a freshmen year hitting .524 with 14 doubles and 27 RBI’s. Logun will also be pitching. The Wildcats ace will be Corbin Yawks, who led the Central Section with the most wins (11-1) and finished with a 1.42 ERA.
The X factor if the Cats get pitching then watch out 2020.
No 6 Santa Maria Saints (6-3) (0-0 OCEAN)
Plenty return for the Saints including junior pitcher Luis Guerrero. Last year Brayan Nunez, hit .478 and had just one error all year long. Junior Enrique Figueroa is ready for a big year pitching. Junior Joseph Ybarra can swing the bat.
The Saints X factor will be scoring runs.
No 7 Dos Palos Broncos (4-1) (0-0 WEST SIERRA)
The Broncos are young and hungry. The Broncos return junior Cesar Poniagua, who knocked in 28 runs & sophomore ace Derek Von Allman, who went 8-0 & Zane Merrell, who went 5-0. The Broncos will get better and better each week.
No 8 Lemoore Tigers (5-4) (0-0 WEST YOSEMITE)
The Tigers move into division 4 and could be the Dark horse because they can swing the bats. They will hit, should play solid D and will have decent pitching. Leading the way will be the Tigers senior QB Justin Holaday, and junior Anfernee Murrieta.
No 9 Madera South Stallions (5-4) (0-0 CMAC)
The Stallions return 10 players with at least 10 varsity starts. MS also has one of the top sophomore classes in the section with 7 sophomores and they will all be ready to make an impact on division 4 and in the CMAC.
Sophomore Murf Gray is back and ready to go after battling injuries his freshman year. He had a great summer playing for the CBA Marlins and gained a lot of attention from college coaches and pro scouts. He currently sits at 6’3 and is throwing 86-87 with a lot of room to grow. Murf is the ace and our shortstop and will hit 2nd in the lineup.
Junior AJ Rocha will hit 3rd & he too had a big summer with the Marlins. Senior Joel Guillen will play 2nd and SS and looks to have a huge year in the 4 spot of the lineup.
A couple of transfers from Selma that will sit with the 30 day will be Jair Alvarez and Jasir Alvarez who are twin sophomores and will make a big impact. Jair will be the No 2 pitcher in the rotation when he returns, Jasir will catch.
Xavier Cantu and Elijah Tang will be the two freshmen on the varsity squad. Xavier will catch and play first base. Elijah will play 2nd and OF. Both can absolutely hit!
As a team MS will have a lot of speed, put pressure on the defense & will look to run, run, and run!!
The Stallions X factor they will be battle tested playing in the CMAC.
No 10 Mission Oak Hawks (8-2) (0-0 EAST YOSEMITE)
Leading the way will be senior Nick Alavardo, who last year hit .377, 5 doubles, 2 Home Runs with 19 RBI’s. Senior pitcher Greyson Gregory is off to a great start. Keep an eye on sophomore Raymond Bustos, who can swing the bat.
No 11 Exeter Monarchs (6-3) (0-0 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
If the Monarchs are going to be successful they will need the bats to step up. The pitching has the makings to be good with Junior Dylan See, and Jackson Brooks. Leading the way at the plate will be senior Julian Vargas.
The Monarchs X factor will be the offense.
No 12 Morro Bay Pirates (7-3) (0-0 OCEAN)
This Pirates team will only have one senior and will be much better once winter sports wrap up. The Pirates have pitching and if they swing the bats & play good defense, watch out! Leading the way on the hill will be juniors Liam MacDonald, and Jonathan Sze. Morro Bay is set to win plenty of games before they host San Luis Obispo.
No 13 Yosemite Badgers (4-4) (0-0 NORTH SEQUOIA)
The Badgers will be much better now that the winter sports are done. Winter sports has 5 starters and this gave some younger players a chance to shine. The pitching will compete with returners senior Owen Bazzar and junior Christian Naus. Look for the Badgers to move up in the rankings in a hurry.
No 14 Pioneer Valley Panthers (5-2) (0-0 OCEAN)
The Panthers have the makings to be a good team if they can score runs. Senior RHP Vince Esparza, is ready for a big year along with sophomore Adrian Valdovinos.
No 15 East Blades (4-6) (0-0 SOUTHEAST YOSEMITE)
A star will be born with sophomore ace Ryan Perez. Junior Angel Garcia, can swing it
No 16 Chavez Titans (4-7) (0-0 SOUTH SEQUOIA)
The Titans will need a big year with the pitching if they want to be successful
No 17 Wasco Tigers (6-4) (SOUTH SEQUOIA)
The Tigers can score runs with a young team. Junior Elias Salinas and sophomore Brandon Martin are off to a great start.
The X factor will be the pitching staff and senior Frankie Hinajosa is ready to have a big year.
No 18 Golden Valley Bulldogs (3-6) (0-0 SOUTH YOSEMITE)
The Bulldogs have potential if the pitching staff can throw strikes. The bats also have potential with senior Brian Gutierrez, and sophomore Junior Avalos.
No 19 Liberty Madera Ranchos Hawks (2-6-1) (0-0 NORTH SEQUOIA)
The Hawks have a new head coach with Derick Kuhn who is going to be very good. The Hawks graduated some stars so the Hawks will be young in spots. The Hawks will be led by Junior ace/lead off hitter Quaid Copher, sophomore shortstop Jackson Bucher, and look for seniors Trevor Porter/Rylan Howe to play key roles. The Hawks can’t wait to be completely healthy and have their full team out & on the field now that winter sports are done. Once that happens, look for the Hawks to move up in the rankings.
No 20 Sierra Pacific Golden Bears (4-6) (2-0 EAST SEQUOIA)
What will life be after star pitcher Will Springer? Keep an eye on seniors Gavin Vangronigen, and Gavin Gamble who are looking to have a big year. The X factor will be the young pitching staff.
No 21 Orcutt Academy Spartans (1-5) (0-0 OCEAN)
Last year the Spartans struggled with a young team. Will be much better this year.
No 22 Kingsburg Vikings (1-10) (0-0 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
The Vikings are playing an early tough schedule with winter sports now done. Plenty of returning Vikings including Marcus Estrada who had 31 hits & senior ace Dalton Alford.
Yosemite Boys basketball is not done yet. Baseball players are still playing!
Thanks!!
