DIVISION 3 PAG METER 2020 BASEBALL RANKINGS & NOTES
No 1 Reedley Pirates (8-1) (0-0 NORTH YOSEMITE)
The Pirates will be young and will have plenty of talent. This team has the makings to challenge Fresno High for the NYL Championship. The young potential ace could be sophomore Will Gagnon who can hit and pitch.
Look for big things from sophomore Ryan Warkentine, who has speed and junior Matt Diaz. If the Pirates can get some pitching, watch out!
No 2 Templeton Eagles (6-0) (0-0 MOUNTAIN)
The Eagles got hot last year in the 2nd half of the season. Plenty of winter sport athletes are now back and getting in baseball shape. They return plenty including sophomore ace Robbie Lardner. The Eagles offense needs to improve to compete in the Mountain league
No 3 Firebaugh Eagles (4-3) (0-0 WEST SIERRA)
The defending West Sierra Champs are always tough to beat.
The Eagles are coming into the season with the best off season since Coach Gutierrez, has been at Firebaugh. The Eagles have had two tough playoff experiences in D3 the last two years losing to Garces and Highland in the 2nd round, who were both very very tough.
The Eagles will be very balanced this season on offense, defense and on the mound. Leading the way will be led by Juniors Andres Altamirano, and Aviram Ramirez on the mound and Junior Cristian Solano behind the plate. Some key seniors who will play a factor offensively will be Cris Alvarez, Joey Fuentes, and Diego Valdez. Freshmen Isaiah Leyva and Sophomore Chisum Demmers will both play a huge factor. The Eagles will be rolling with 13 guys all year and every single guy is expected to play at a high level. The Eagles have a very tough schedule ahead & playing a couple Division 1 schools, and will be very excited for the challenge.
No 4 Fowler Redcats (7-1) (0-0 W SEQUOIA)
The Cats move up into Division 3 and plenty return from last year including the West Sequoia league pitcher of the year Parker Renteria. Returning this year are two 3-time Varsity and 1st-Team All-League players that are sharing the mound with Renteria. Look out for left-handed pitcher Rossi Martinez. This player has a strong arm as well and is batting in the high .300’s that has transpired to doubles, triple and multiple RBI’s for the Cats. He captured the win against Lemoore by pitching the whole game getting the shutout win 2-0. Christian Sweeney is also another Fowler pitcher that stands 6’1”. He too shares the honors on the mound. This player is definitely a versatile player. He catches, plays the infield and swings a big bat. Beginning of this season a new addition to the offense and defense arsenal is Scott Turner. This player is the 2nd basemen. He too has a great glove with a live arm. Turner has a steady stick that allows him to get on bases. Scott is also in the rotation. Look to see him on the mound soon! Another, returner is Trey Mendoza. This player covers the outfield and runs the bases well. The Redcats are always one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the section.
No 5 Ridgeview Wolf Pack (7-2-1) (0-0 SOUTH YOSEMITE)
The SYL defending champions have some good pitching with junior Jesse Villalobos, and sophomore Jorge Gutierrez who are both off to a great start. Leading the offense will be senior Gavyn Siefert.
The Pack X factor will be the offense.
No 6 Immanuel Eagles (5-3) (1-0 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
Plenty of Eagles are now finishing up from winter sports and getting in baseball shape. Leading the pitching staff will be seniors Ryan Friesen and Matt Tiger. Lefty Friesen is good and Tiger has plenty of speed while playing 3B. One of the best hitters in the section is RHP/SS senior Trace Pires.
The Eagles are expecting big things from junior catcher Andrew Brown.
No 7 Selma Bears (6-4) (1-0 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
The defending Central Sequoia Champions will be good again and leading the way will be senior ace Isaiah Gastelum.
No 8 St Joseph Knights (3-3) (0-0 MOUNTAIN)
The Knights will have one of the best pitchers in the state with senior Hunter Barnhart. Hunter will play at Arizona St & is at 88-93 MPH. Also keep an eye on senior pitcher Nate Cantor because he is good.
The Knights X factor will be scoring runs to compete for a championship. I expect the Knights to be in at least the final 4 in the playoffs.
No 9 Dinuba Emperors (6-4) (0-0 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
Last year the Emperors struggled to score runs and the pitching was good. This year most of the pitching returns with senior Justin Gonzalez and Isaiah Ochoa.
The Emperors X factor will be the offense
No 10 Hanford West Huskies (5-3) (0-0 CENTRAL SEQUOIA)
Washington Union Spring Classic Champions
The Huskies are off to a great start and are swinging the bats. This team has the makings to make some big noise in the Central Sequoia. Leading the way will be seniors Chris Brown and Cameron Leasure.
No 11 Kerman Lions (3-5) (0-0 NORTH SEQUOIA)
The Lions come on a 10 year streak of winning the North Sequoia league which is a Central Section record.
The Lions return 9 players from last year including Sophomore, Devon Daniel, who went 6-3 with a 0.56 ERA in 59 innings and 81 Strikeouts. 1st team all league second baseman Junior Christan Chavez, and 2nd team all league Senior pitcher Gavin Layton.
New Infield Coach David Potter has been blessed with a young talented infield including Junior 3B Rafael Mendoza, Junior Utility Infielder Jayden Garcia, Junior Catcher Elijah Torres-Cordova, freshman Shortstop Dominic Puentes and Junior second baseman Lawrence Sierras.
New Pitching Coach Thomas Camargo has no shortage of arms either, & the staff also includes Senior RHP’s Christian Castro, Michael Notley and Elijah Lopez, Sophomore RHP Anthony Delgado, Junior LHP Daylon Yount, Senior LHP Christian Zapata, and Junior RHP Marcus Angel.
The outfield is anchored by speed as Junior’s Julian Zapata and Diego Porto look to be poised to run down anything hit in their direction.
No 12 Atascadero Greyhounds (1-4-1) (0-0 MOUNTAIN)
The Hounds have the team to get back to Fresno State. They got red hot in the 2nd half of last year and lost in the championship game to Highland. Junior ace Justin Vose returns and he is good along with senior Cade Van Allen. The Hounds started out last year at 2-8 so they are hoping now that the winter sports are done they can get off to a better start.
No 13 Independence Falcons (4-3-2) (0-0 SOUTH YOSEMITE)
The Falcons come into 2020 as one of the top teams and will get better and better by playoff time. Look for big things from junior ace Nick Perryman. Sophomore Ryan Almengor is going to be really good. A star will be born with freshmen Mason Marroquin, who has power. The Falcons X factor can they win the big games after Perryman? The Falcons should move up soon.
No 14 North Stars (5-4) (0-0 SOUTH YOSEMITE)
This Stars team has more seniors than anybody in the section so that means plenty of experienced players. The Ace will be Jarod Lucas.
The Stars X factor will be the offense. Look for the Stars to be a top 10 team very soon.
No 15 Garces Rams (2-7) (0-0 SW YOSEMITE)
The Rams return almost everybody from last year. The Rams took their lumps last year and this year will be much better. Look for senior Tommy Armendariz to have a good year.. Leading the offense will be senior Frankie Muller and junior Gino Antongiovanni. A star will be born with Freshman pitcher Toby Twist. He has the makings for a great 4-year career.
Look for the Rams to be a top division 3 team very soon now that winter sports are done.
No 16 Nipomo Titans (2-5) (0-0 OCEAN)
Leading the way will be senior Ace Anthony Campos.
No 17 Chowchilla Tribe (3-4) (0-0 NORTH SEQUOIA)
The defending division 4 champions move into division 3. The Tribe will be young and it would have been great to see Chowchilla stay in division 4. Still too early to tell just how good the Tribe will be.
No 18 Hoover Patriots (2-7) (0-0 NORTH YOSEMITE)
The Patriots could be the sleeper team and you better bring your A game because the Pates will battle you. They return plenty of senior leadership with ace Alex Guerrero, Oren Hill, and Jonnie Mosesian. Look for the Patriots to get on a hot streak soon.
No 19 Porterville Panthers (1-6-1) (0-0 EYL)
The Panthers lost plenty to graduation and also lost their ace to Tulare Western. The Panthers will have tremendous young talent and this team will get better and better.
The Panthers X factor will be the young pitching staff
No 20 Mission Prep Royals (0-5) (0-0 OCEAN)
The Royals come off a nice 2019 year. Leading the way will be senior Amari Baker who knocked in 26 runs. The X factor will be the brand new pitching staff. Stay tuned on the Royals and how good they will be.
