Sanger Sports in Review
Sanger Baseball won their 5th league game of the season against Edison on Friday a score of 8-3. The apaches, behind pitcher Alec Flores, had many runners on base throughout the lineup including from big hits by Harrell, Quinonez, Herring, Garcia, Martinez, and Jaurique, who together drove in all 8 of Sanger’s runs. They were also victorious on Saturday against Dinuba, winning the CVDC Tournament Championship (makeup) Game in the 8th inning by way of a squeeze bunt laid by Jaurique. In order to get to the walkoff, the apaches had played behind productive pitching performances from Justin Boissonneault and Steven Martinez. Martinez remarked that the team’s bond, “helps up during games and those late innings when we need a push to keep going, stay up, and persevere.” He says the 2018 apaches have been playing ball together since they were kids, leading them to varsity with a great connection and a powerful team aspect. Also a large part of the team success is credited to helpful, thoughtful, and intentional coaching. Martinez claims, “we get great feedback from our coaches… that’s the only way to get better and learn.” He adds that his mindset going into games is to give it his all and try to help the team any way he can. Today Sanger plays Madera again; next apache game is at Memorial for a 3:30 first pitch on Tuesday then a home matchup against Memorial at 3:30 on Friday, April 20th.
