Dinuba’s Junior Varisty Loses Streak but Varsity Shows a Whole Other Level!

League. A time of the season where not only does competition heat up, but where teams want to get vengeance.  Football is a win-lose sport, so one team or the other is going to be holding their heads high in the end of it.  Dinuba wanted to be on that winning side again, as they won last year and hoped to do it again.  Kingsburg was hungry and definitely had the talent to take off Dinuba, as they have one of the best running backs in the Central Sequoia League Kingsburgh own Bo Jackson.

Dinuba Junior Varsity team went into this matchup with a 30 game win streak, a 3-year span between their last loss.  Dinuba was now going to face an undefeated Kingsburg team,  with QB Jett Jackson at the helm of their offense. All of Kingsburg’s scores were off turnovers, as they forced Dinuba to fumble 4 times. Two were from Dinuba fullbacks and 2 were forced on Dinuba’s quarterback, who was extremely rushed throughout the competition.  One score was also off a blocked punt returned for a touchdown, as Kingsburg led 19-0 by halftime.  Much did not change except for a pass to TE Cameron Amador, which made the final score 19-6 Kingsburg, ending Dinuba’s 30 game win streak. No offensive and defensive players of the week this week, as it seems there was very little that was bright for Dinuba in this game.

Now for the primetime show, Dinuba hoped to pick up off the junior varsity’s loss and get to 3-0 in the league. Dinuba started with the ball and scored in under 5 plays, as QB Joshua Magana threw a beautiful ball to WR Brian Ortuno-Campbell for a 50-yard touchdown. Kingsburg then came back and hit them in the mouth with a 23 yard touchdown pass from QB Caleb Buendia to WR Mark Contreras.  Then in the 2nd quarter, Kingsburg scored once again on a pass from RB Bo Jackson to WR Alfred Carpenter.  Dinuba then scored on a pass from QB Joshua Magana to WR Colton Martinez for 35 yards.  Both teams then came back at halftime, but Kingsburg came and scored off a pass from QB Caleb Buendia to RB Nathan Gamble. Dinuba then came back at them with a 3 yard pass from QB Joshua Magana to TE Jon Calderon.

Offensive Player of The Week – QB Joshua Magana 15/27 211 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Defensive Player of The Week – DE Adam Aguilar, 11 tackles for the Emperors

After this score though, Dinuba nor Kingsburg was able to score in the 4th quarter as they then went into overtime,21-21. Kingsburg got the ball first and Dinubas defense , having been in this spot before, forced Kingsburg to kick a field goal. DInuba then came out on the field and ran in the ball with FB Lucas Tuttle for not only 2 yards but the league win for Dinuba.
Dinuba will now face CVC, a team that has been known to throw the ball around with QB JJ Lino. Both teams are undefeated in league, and one of them will get to keep the honor by the end of the night.  The game will be played on October 27 at Claud Hebert Field; 7 pm for varsity and 5 pm for JV. Make sure to stop by and watch this huge matchup!
