WSL Week 2 In Review

Mendota is still looking for answers after last week’s 41-7 loss to Liberty-Madera Ranchos dropping to 0-2 for the first time since 2010, That year they ended 6-5 and eliminated in the second round of playoffs vs. Orange Cove. They have a tough rest of September as they start a 3-game road trip starting at Roosevelt this Friday, Immanuel on the 15th, and Minarets on the 29th as they have a bye week on the 22nd. So will the Aztecs finally earn their first win of 2017 or will they go 0-3 for the first time since 2004? Friday Night Lights from Sunnyside Stadium…Aztecs vs. Rough Riders

Coalinga is having a strong start to their 2017 season as they have won their first two games by a combined 62-20 and looking for more after last Friday’s 48-14 road win up to 101 Highway at Gonzalez. It’s their 6th year they started 2-0 with the last being in 2012 and they ended that season 9-3, They will host the Kerman Lions this Friday which will mark the 14th meeting since 2004 in which Coalinga leads it 8-4. Will the Horned Toads
prove to be to tough to handle or will Lions conquer and end the streak? Coalinga looking for their 3rd straight win friday night versus Kerman.

Tranquillity is currently in a fight with Mendota & Avenal to see who can climb out of the WSL Cellar, A sentence I would have never thought I would have to type as both are 0-2 after Tranquillity fell on the road to McFarland 22-6 on Tuesday making up their game after it was originally cancelled but the schools ended up postponing it to tuesday. this isn’t the first time it started this way…they have started for now their 8th time down 0-2
since 2004 and have a combined record of 14-58 in the span. Tranquillity will look for their first win against Fresno High at Historic Ratcliffe Stadium friday night.

Avenal along with Tranquillity & Mendota is 0-2 and looking to shake the rust off and get a win after they fell on the road to Lindsay 22-6 and set their sights on Corcoran another road trip. With their loss to Lindsay it marked only the 5th time since 2011 when they started 0-2 and ended 1-9, In tht span they have a combined 7-44 record. Will the Buccaneers plunder and find the buried teasure of a W or will Corcoran pounce on them? Avenal continues their road trip at Corcoran.

Firebaugh Eagles will enter their bye week with a 1-1 record after recording a win against Fowler 36-21 and will have two weeks to get ready to host Riverdale on the 15th back at Eagles Stadium.

Dos Palos will use their bye week to reflect and learn from their 32-14 loss to Roosevelt and use the two weeks to get ready for the Westside War against Los Banos at Loftin Stadium on the 15th.
