Sanger Sports Are Back!

Sanger football had a scrimmage against Central on Friday, August 18th. Varsity head coach Jorge Peña said the game, “showed they have work to do… but our team has a lot of potential.” He has been impressed with the team’s work ethic and ability to learn and explains that this young team is looking forward to getting more on-field experience. According to Peña, three Apaches to keep your eye on are: returner Miguel Herrera, the standout receiver Jalen Cropper, and running back Josiah Lopez. These athletes and all of their teammates are excited for their first game on Friday the 25th, a home game at Tom Flores Stadium against Fresno High. Sanger is advertising a red out.
The Apache girls volleyball teams had scrimmages on Thursday the 17th. Varsity was at Buchanan, JV at Clovis North, and Frosh at Clovis West. Their first games will be Tuesday, August 29th home against Exeter. The volleyball program held a very successful fundraiser over the weekend with the alumni dinner and game. The athletes are also selling Sanger volleyball gear as another fundraiser for their season.
Sanger girls golf team are coming off of their Valley Championship year with confidence and their eyes on the prize. They have already begun playing with a scrimmage match at Kingsburg last Tuesday the 15th, and another scrimmage at Clovis East on Tuesday the 22nd.
Boys water polo had a game on Wednesday, August 23rd against Central. Varsity’s next game is September 1st in Fresno, playing in the Fall Kick-off Classic.
Girls water polo had a scrimmage on Wednesday, August 23rd home against Buchanan. Their first game is scheduled for this Saturday.
Girls tennis had their first game at Clovis West on Tuesday the 22nd, where they lost on a tiebreaker. They also played Hoover on Thursday the 24th. Girls tennis next has a match on Tuesday at Clovis.
The cross country team has been running running running, in anticipation for their first meet at the beginning of September.
Sanger High School’s rally on Friday, “Let the Games Begin”, is in anticipation for these fall sports and all the coaches and athletes participating. Go Apaches!
