PAGMETER PLAYOFF NOTES.
We all know that this playoff format is a complete disaster especially for the small schools. In the first round of games, there are some tremendous, intriguing matchups that are tough to call but we all knew that would happen. That was the plan. The computer doesn’t care about size of school or strength of schedule. Just win baby!
The problem is a small school might win in the first round but eventually they will be out with getting worn down.
This new system would be like the Detroit Lions are struggling so let’s move them down to the SEC. Alabama is rolling so let’s move them up to the NFL. It should never be that way.
What is crazy is this is the first time in over 100 years of central section football that 3 undefeated teams will not a get a home game in the playoffs and that is simply wrong. Wasco, Dos Palos, and Mission Prep all get penalized for having tremendous years.
Mission Oak also went undefeated but gets to play at Bob Mathias Stadium.
The computer was tired by the time it reached division 6 and gave 0-7 Pioneer Valley a No 3 seed and a bye. You can’t make this stuff up.
In week 11 the PAGMETER went 40-7 and for the year 406-72 (85%)

FIREBAUGH EAGLES (9-2) at SUNNYSIDE WILDCATS (8-2)
The X factor it’s the leading rusher in the Central Section with Eagles RB/LB Danny Olivera who has rushed for 1,837-yards and has scored 31 TDs vs the leading passer in the Central Section with Wildcats freshman QB Tanner Wilson who has thrown for 2,850 yards, 28 TD passes along with the leading WR in the Central Section, Deashaun Bias who has caught 55 passes for 889 yards and 12 TDs.
Which defense will play better? Can the Wildcats defense slow down Olvera? Nope, Wildcats got run over. Can the Eagles defense stay with the Wildcats offense? The Eagles will battle and should be playing in the division 4 playoffs along with getting a home game. The Wildcats have played the tougher schedule.

It’s the Bearcats double Wing-T offense vs the wide-open attack of the Tribe.
The X factor is the Bearcats offense, and they MUST do their thing with playing keep away from the Tribe. For the Bearcats offense, they need long drives with points to have a fun bus ride home. The Tribe have not faced a double Wing-T offense this year and it’s not easy to prep for. In the first half, the Tribe got run over for over 200 yards of rushing. TU can score but can they play good defense? You never know what Tribe defense will show up. The Tribe has the edge playing of the field turf.

The Bearcats Double Wing T steam rolled in the first half 17-0. On 4th and long, Trevor Bridewell hit Bastiaan Jaureguy on a 34-yard TD pass which turns out it’s the game winner. The Bearcats defense came up huge with a 4th down stop in the endzone with 6 seconds to go. Bridewell also hit Diego Chavez with a 37-yard TD pass.
For the Tribe, Victor Espinoza threw 3 TD passes, Dominic Moreno 25-yards, A J Hernandez 2-yards and Pedro Alverez 7-yards.

The X factor St Joseph is a physical team and so is Bullard. Can St Joseph slow down speedy Bullard? Bullard should be playing in division 1 so they must make a statement playing in division 2. St Joseph is way better than a 16 seed and this could have been a semifinal matchup but in this crazy playoff format, they play in the first round.

The Tigers got absolutely screwed in this new silly playoff format. Wasco goes undefeated and doesn’t get a home game!!!! It’s the first time in Central Section history that an undefeated team didn’t get a home game. Simply ridiculous. The Golden Hawks come in beating Frontier 27-14.
The X factor the Tigers should be playing in division 3 and the Golden Hawks are finally healthy as a team. Can the Tigers slow down QB Levi Manning and the G Hawks offense?
This should be a special year for the Wasco Tigers, but they got stuck being a test dummy in the new playoff format. If only common sense would have stepped in. The Tigers might just pull out a win the first round but in the long run playing against bigger schools in division 2, it will catch up with them.

The X factor the Golden Eagles are finally going to unleash their outstanding sophomore QB Tyler Patrick who has thrown 13 TD passes in a part time roll. You can’t play QB part time. It’s all about timing, rhythm, and the feel of the game. It’s a miracle that TP has thrown 13 TD passes. The T Wolves haven’t been the same since they got caught up in the silly political flu game that some teams play. Can the Golden Eagles defense slow down freshman QB Ty Miller? Now that the Golden Eagles are taking off the handcuffs on offense, look for the Golden Eagles to play loser and the defense will feed off it.

The X factor is which offense will step up and finish drives with points? The Apaches are not a throwing team and really have no go to receivers so if the Titans can control the line of scrimmage, then game over. Can the Titans find their stride after a rusty week 11?

Just like Wasco, & Mission Prep, Dos Palos is the only other team in Central Section history that went undefeated and didn’t get a home playoff. The Broncos should also be in division 3. Both teams come in with a win from last week. The Vikings shut it down at the coin flip and could have beaten Selma 150-0 if they wanted.
The X factor this will be the best defense the Broncos will have played so far this year. This is a special Broncos team but it will come to an end in Kingsburg. Leading the Vikings is sophomore QB Max Warkentin, FB Trace Jackson, WR Conner Mcfall, and Mr. Everything ,Micah Spomer. The Broncos QB for tonight will be junior Will Montemurro who has a good arm, smart and can run but going against the Vikings defense won’t be easy.

The Royals were 8-man football not so long ago and now in division 2. The Royals are the best team on the Central Coast, goes undefeated and must travel. You can’t make this stuff up. The Tigers have had a tremendous year even though the Tigers lost to Hanford in the Milk Can game.
The X factor is the Royals are a physical team and wants to prove to the Central Section that they belong. Leading the Royals is senior RB Jack Susank who has rushed for 1,060-yards with 12 TDs and junior QB Colby White who has thrown for 1,249-yards and 17 TD passes. The Tigers will lead with Ty Chambers who has thrown for 1.272-yards and 19 TD passes.
Can the Tigers rebound from the crushing loss to Hanford 42-0? This game is the toughest game to figure out in the opener of the playoffs.

The X factor will the time off hurt the Miners? Can the Cavaliers come back after an ugly loss to Exeter? The Loss to Exeter did work out for CVC because it got them the No 1 seed in the D3 playoffs. CVC is really a division 3 team. Because El D has to play in the 2nd worst school district in the Central Section, plenty of the young Miner families could be checking out the amazing Central Valley Christian school since it’s so close. This will be a very good game and it could come down to the final minutes. This is a tough one to pick because who will show up and play a great game?

The X factor these teams played back in week 5 and Edison won 40-20. The Tigers played their best game of the year. The Emperors are much better now than in week 5 and leading the way is senior QB Casimiro Barragan who has thrown for 1,878-yards and 21 TD passes.
Can the Tigers bounce back from being off 3 weeks from the political flu and not practicing? It’s tough to beat a team twice in a year.

Leading the Spartans are seniors RB Carlos Moreno who has rushed for 1,091, scored 22 TDs and QB Jaylen Oats who has thrown for 1,233-yards and 12 TD passes.
The X factor can the Spartans tackle Warkentin? Nobody else has. Both teams are physical and will get after it. The Pirates offense must hold serve on offense and score almost every time because the Spartans don’t practice punting much.

Leading the Panthers on defense is the central section’s top linebacker with Keanu Kuma. Can the Panthers slow down the Birds running attack? Can the Birds contain the Panthers QB Lawrence Stell?

The Warriors come in playing their best football and winning 2 straight. The PAGMETER had Tehachapi playing in division 5 and getting a home game. The Broncos come in beating Boron 20-6. Kennedy Batchelder and Cain Omohundro had big games along with Reese Dondero. Carson Schmidt and Milton Michel had 2nd half interceptions. The Bronco offense was led by the duo of Quarterback Jakob Redmond and receiver Jake Frigerio. The seniors connected on 2 long passes. Senior running back Zach Mojarro scored on a rushing TD. The Broncos played with heavy hearts because 3 teenage girls close to the team were killed in a car accident last week and the small town of Bishop is hurting.
The X factor this is old classic rivalry. The PAGMETER had Bishop Union as the No 1 seed in division 5 and this could have been at least a semifinal game instead of a first round game in division 4. Which defense will play better?

The Aztecs come in beating Tranquility and the Stallions lost to Madera. The Stallions had to play their big rivalry home game at Madera. You can’t make this up. The Stallions are the red headed stepchild of the Madera school district.
The Aztecs have the full support from their administration and that’s fantastic and great to see. Can you imagine what head coach Beto Mejia would say if the administration told him you need to play the Battle for Highway 33 at Firebaugh instead of in Mendota. You might have to taser Beto to calm him down.
The X factor the entire town of Mendota will make the trip to Matty J stadium. The only team that can beat Madera South is Madera South. They aren’t the sharpest tool in the tool shed and will make the dumbest mistakes that will keep them from winning a game. They will fumble, silly penalties, not use common sense and simply forget the basic football 101. If they play smart football, then they should win at home.

MT WHITNEY PIONEERS (2-7) at NIPOMO TITANS (7-3)
The Pioneers will come in with plenty of MOJO after beating Redwood 13-7 in the big Rawhide game. The Titans come with a political flu bye.
The X factor and this is crazy. With the new silly playoff format, the Pioneers have played a MUCH tougher schedule over the Titans and the Titans get the No 1 seed. The computer only looks at the win/losses. If the schedules were switched, the Pioneers would be 8-1 and the Titans 1-8. The other X factor is the Titans now rotate QBs The Titans also got a gift getting the No 1 seed and should be in division 3.
This is a tough call. It’s a long road trip for Mt Whitney. Nipomo has not played for a while and got stuck in the political flu game. The Titans are also rotating QBs and since the beginning of football 100 years ago, teams that rotate QBs have never been successful so even if the Titans win in the first round, their time is numbered. The Pioneers defense is very good but do they have enough offense on the road?

The X factor is the Cardinals defense vs the Bobcats offense. The Cardinals offense is very good and so is the Bobcats defense. If the Cardinals don’t turn the ball over, they could be having a nice bus ride home. Boron played Bishop Union tough and leading the way is senior RB Mykel McClendon.

The X factor both teams hit a wall, but the Highlanders win in week 11 will help with the MOJO. The Toads have lost 3 straight and the good news is they ended up in division 5 where they belong. The bad news is Toads outstanding QB Jett Garcia (banged-up shoulder) WR Devin Sanchez (suspended for getting kicked out of the Dos Palos game) and Chase Milligan (political flu game) didn’t play in the loss to Firebaugh.
Garcia, Sanchez, and Milligan are all back this week and that is huge for the Toads.

The Lions come in losing to Washington Union 35-20 and the Eagles decided to take the week off. With the Eagles taking the week off, it got them the No 1 seed in division 5 which is crazy.
The X factor this is a rematch from week 9 when the Eagles beat the Lions 40-13. Hector Davila 2 TDs passes each to Alemá Slade. Will Henderson 2 TDs, Jacob Cabrera TD.
The X factor the Lions have new life with Jess Reyes taking over. It’s always harder to beat a team for the 2nd time in a year but the Eagles are a much better team now from when both teams played each other. The Lions have played a much tough schedule, but this will come down to the Lions defense.

With this silly new playoff format, the Wolf Pack decided to play after having a disaster of a year and who can blame them. The Wolf Pack usually plays in division 1/division 2 that but gets a trip to play at the beautiful central coast to play in division 5. You can’t make this up.
The X factor is the Tigers defense, and can they keep a struggling offense down? The Pack has reached the endzone 6 times this year.

The Cowboys come in taking the political flu bye thanks to Minarets. The Cowboys tried to get a game, but nobody wanted to play. The Generals lost to Wasco 46-20.
The X factor if the Generals were healthy this year, they would have been the team to beat in division 4. The nightmare is now for the division 5 teams because the Generals are healthy and ready for a long playoff run, QB Tyson Dozier is back and speedy Devon Sundgren is not. The Cowboys are good but have only played 6 games because of the political flu.
