FOR THE CENTRAL SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
No 2 BUCHANAN BEARS (10-3) at CENTRAL GRIZZLIES (13-0)
Pag Meter Early Line Central -11

This is a rematch from week 7 and Central won the Bear Bowl 41-20.
The Grizzlies won their 19 straight TRAC game on the Thursday night.
With the score tied at 20-20 in the 3rd quarter, DB Sean Haymon returned a 52-yard pick 6 and the game winner. Jameson Silva hit Xavier Worthy on a beautiful 79-yard TD bomb and the backbreaker to make the score 34-20. Quali Conley scored on a 4-yard run. Xavier Worthy scored on a 19-Yard run. Ja’kob Jones, with 4-yard TD run. Jameson Silva went 20-25 for 269 Yards, and 2 TD’s passes.
For Buchanan, DJ Stevenson scored on a 23-yard TD run and then hurt his shoulder and hasn’t played QB since week 7. Kendall Milton rushed for 86 yards on 16 carries and scored 2 TD’s on runs of 2 and 23 yards. This was the start of sophomore Ian Kirby era at QB.
The Bears come in beating Liberty 27-0. Ian Kirby, threw for 299 yards & 3 TD passes. Kirby’s favorite WR Brandon Hernandez, caught 4 footballs for 114 yards & 2 TD’s. The Patriots did shut down Kendall Minton, for most of the night but did score on a 49 yard run. The Patriots were beat up coming in with Injuries. The Patriots 2 best players, QB Haden Mann and WR/DB Ramon Henderson, did not play.
The Grizzlies beat the Bullard Knights 35-7. QB Jameson Silva, went 16-22 for 222 Yards & 2 TD passes and scored on a 12-yard TD run. Jeremiah Hunter (15 yards) & Xaiver Worthy (42 yards) each caught TD passes. Jakob Jones, scored on a 1-yard TD run, & Carter Anderson, with a 2- yard TD run. RB Quali Conley, rushed for 149 yards.
The X factor the last time they played, Buchanan had a horrible passing game. The Grizzlies will focus on Kendall and that means for the Bears to win, Kirby must carry out his fakes to set up the play action pass. The Bears passing success is over the middle when Kirby’s works his receivers between the linebackers and safety. The linebackers have to fill because of Kendall but that’s against normal teams. The Grizzlies secondary are on another level. The DB’s will play more in your face against the Bears receivers and that means the window is smaller for Kirby. The Bears will need some big plays to stay in this one.
The Grizzlies are the heavy favorite at home and looking for their 3rd straight Central Section Championship. The Bears are looking for their 2nd Central Section Championship in school history. In 2000, the Bears beat Bakersfield. Bears Head Coach Matt Giordano, played on the 2000 Bears team.
The Grizzlies are at home and in front of the best high school crowd in the section and one of the best in the state. Even if it rains, the Grizzlies fans will still show up and will be loud. Plan on a big crowd with plenty of football fans from around the valley at Central.
The key for the Bears to stay in this game will be the 3rd quarter. The Grizzlies are a knockout team and if they get off to a great start, they will boat race the Bears off the field turf. The Bears have to keep it close heading into the 4th quarter.
If it rains, the big question will be, who can throw it when needed ? The Grizzlies are fired up to slow down the 5 star Kendall Milton.
Could this be a low scoring game because of the weather and both defenses are outstanding?

DIVISION 2 SECTION FINAL
Broadcasting on 940 ESPN Radio -Listen on line 940espnfresno.com
TULARE WESTERN MUSTANGS (11-3) at MEMORIAL PANTHERS (12-1)
Pag Meter Early Line Memorial -14

The Mustangs come in beating Hanford 30-21. TW trailed at the half 21-6. Rolondo Holmes, got the Mustangs going in the 3rd quarter with a 67-yard TD run.
Mikey Ficher, rushed for 165 yards on 34 carries, scored 2 TD’s. Henry Williams, scored on a 10-yard TD run.
The Panthers beat St Joseph 46-21. QB Finn Collins, threw for 236 yards on 11-14 for 236 yards & 3 TD passes, and scored 2 TD’s.
The X factor can Ficher and the Mustangs offense control the line of scrimmage and keep the Panthers offense on the sidelines? It could rain and that could favor the running game of the Mustangs. The Panthers offense is dangerous with WR’s Jalen McMillian, De’von King and Mac Dalena. The Panthers running game is outstanding RB Jordan Hornbeak.
The Mustangs are looking for their first Section Championship in school history. Since the school opened in 1959, the Mustangs have played in 3 section Championship games. (2004, 2016 & 2017)
Panthers are looking for their 3 straight section championship. The last 2 were in division 3.
If it rains, the game score could be a lot lower. The Mustangs are 0-4 all-time against Memorial.

DIVISION 3 SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
CENTRAL VALLEY CHRISTIAN CAVALIERS (9-5) at BAKERSFIELD CHRISTIAN EAGLES (10-3)
Pag Meter Early Line Bakersfield Christian -14

The Cavaliers come in beating Golden West 18-16. Tyce Griswold rushed for 144 yards on 15 carries, & scored on a 60-yard TD run. Logan Jacobi, rushed for 132 yards & scored a TD. William de Jong kicked 2 field goals of 40 yards & 19 yards.
The Eagles beat San Luis Obispo 35-14. The Eagles defense picked off 6 passes. Chris Gutierrez led the way with 3 interceptions for a school record. Jess Wattenbarger had 2 interceptions. QB Dominic Gamboni, threw for 214 yards and 4 TD passes.
The X factor this is a rematch from week 2 and BC shutout CVC 36-0. Both teams have improved a ton. The Cavaliers again will not have outstanding running back Jaalen Rening because of an injury. The Cavaliers have adjusted and playing their best football heading into the Championship game but the Eagles are on fire & at home.
The big question, can the Cavaliers slow down the speedy Eagles offense?

DIVISION 4 SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
SELMA BEARS (11-2) at WASHINGTON UNION PANTHERS (11-2)
Pag Meter Early Line Washington Union -4

This is a rematch from week 4 and the Panthers won 42-32.
The Bears come in beating Kennedy 27-7. Joey Ramirez, threw for 173 yards & 3 TD passes. Aaron Blancas, caught 5 passes for 173 yards and 3 TD’s. (53, 19 & 50 yards). Aaron Olivares, rushed for 124 yards on 24 carries.
The Panthers beat Porterville 27-23. Lawerence Stell scored the game winning TD on a 3-yard run with less than 38 seconds to go.
The X factor is Panthers outstanding WR Tory Horton and TE, FB Montreal London who both got hurt with neck/head injuries vs Porterville will not play in this game. That will hurt the Panthers passing game.
Can the Bears’ defense step up this week and play better than they did in week 4? The Bears offense needs to hold serve and finish drives with points. The Bears can’t afford to punt and turn the ball over if they want to beat the Panthers.

DIVISION 5 SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
DOS PALOS BRONCOS (13-1) at CARUTHERS BLUE RAIDERS (12-2)
Pag Meter Early Line Caruthers -5

The Broncos come in beating Yosemite 46-21. Tyree Martin, saw the ball 3 times and broke off TD runs of 72, 85 and 48 yards & rushed for 312 yards. Ryan Ramirez, scored on 4 TD runs and the Broncos ran all over the Badgers.
The Blue Raiders beat Strathmore 37-27. Bobby Staley, rushed for a career high of 225 yards on 24 carries, scored 4 TD’s on runs of 1, 31, 8, 11 yards.
The X factor can the Broncos defense slowing down the Brew Crew offense? The Broncos offense is real good but can the defense have a night against a physical Caruthers offense? This should be a real good game of 2 teams that can pound the ball. The Broncos have the edge in the passing game with sophomore QB Trent Calvert, who has set school records with 2,632 passing yards and has thrown for 32 TD passes. For the young Broncos to win, they have to play great defense. Will the weather be a factor? This game could come down to the final drive.

DIVISION 6 SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP
OROSI CARDINALS (11-4) at BISHOP UNION BRONCOS (12-2)

The Cardinals come in beating Cal City 23-12. RB Dominic Martinez, has now rushed for 2,126 yards & has scored 30 TD’s on the year.
Bishop Union beat Lindsay 22-16. QB Luke McClean’, threw 2 TD passes and the defense played another outstanding game.
The X factor it’s the big and physical Cardinals offense vs the outstanding Broncos defense.
It has snowed during the week and the field is going to be a mess. The temperature is supposed to be 25-35 degrees but clear. Can the Cardinals defense step up and play a great game on a long one day road trip?
I picked both of these teams playing in the Championship game back in August and I picked Orosi to win it all. I have to stick with my pick but the great defense always has the advantage over the great offense.
This is the way it should be with 2 of the best teams playing for the Championship!
