WSL Athletics Week 6 Review & Week 7 Preview

WSL Athletics Week 6 Review & Week 7 Preview: A new season begins with a Fresno Co. vs. Merced Co. WSL Matchup.
Last week was the team’s final non-league games as they prepared to begin another season of football which would make these next few weeks very and I do mean very interesting.
Mendota secured their first win of the season last week 51-0 against Pajaro Valley-Watsonville and were looking to take that momentum and confidence of the win, as they traveled to take on a troublesome Immanuel Eagles squad who for the last few years have given Mendota fans and players hard times. Well the hard times did continue as Immanuel’s offense along with Mendota’s miscues on both sides of the ball proved to be the difference maker as Immanuel defended their home fieldo with the 45-21 victory. Mendota will look to shake it off and prepare for the WSL opener this week against Cross-County rivals Dos Palos which is also Homecoming Night for Mendota.
Dos Palos around this time last year were 0-4 and looked to finish non-league play on a somewhat high note but they were traveling to Sunnyside Stadium to take on McLane High as they were the moderate favorites to beat down the Broncos. Well by some miracle and the team playing really well that night Dos Palos in the end came and brought upon to themselves one of the most impressive shocking upsets of that year as they beat the Highlanders of McLane 43-14. Fast forward to last week where it was the same matchup again except this time it was Dos Palos hosting them at Ike Franklin Field at Bill Hume Stadium and the Broncos this time were the favorites and they were ready to prove that last season’s win versus the Highlanders wasn’t a fluke and they proved it convincingly as the Broncos of Dos Palos corralled the Highlanders of McLane 47-21. Dos Palos will now turn their sights on league as this week they will travel to Mendota to take on their Cross-County rival Aztecs on WSL Opening Night this Friday.
Tranquillity came into this last week on a 17 game losing streaking and not having secured a win in 707 days and they also took on another team who also was looking for their first win of the season in the Sierra Chieftains. And well it was a low scoring affair and in the end the Tigers of Tranquillity snapped their 17 game losing streak and earned their first win in 707 days with a 14-0 win over Sierra. Tranquillity will open the WSL season at home against the Firebaugh Eagles on Friday Night.
Firebaugh, Avenal, Coalinga all were on the Bye Week as they got ready for their WSL season opener. Firebaugh will open on the road with Tranquillity, Avenal will open at home versus Coalinga.
WSL Standings as of Week 6
- Dos Palos (4-1)
- Firebaugh (3-2)
- Coalinga (2-3)
- Mendota & Tranquillity (1-4)
- Avenal (0-5)
