He is looked up to by all his teammates and fellow students. To date Max has applied to 19 colleges. He loves sports and wants to major in Physical Therapy. Female PAGMETER Player of the Week
Marissa Martinez
Marissa Martinez started playing golf in 7th grade for Kastner Middle School. Through 8th grade, travel level softball was Marissa’s primary sport – following in her big sister Julianna’s footsteps (Fresno State Bulldogs). Marissa played golf in 8th grade, then took up golf as her only sport after her 8th grade year.
Marissa has been a member of the Clovis West Girls Golf Team since her freshman year. She played on the JV team her freshman year where they dominated the league. Her sophomore year, she was part of the amazing 2017 varsity team. That year she was part of the best team to have ever played in the Central Section – winning a TRAC, AREA and Valley Championship in dominating fashion. Last year, her Junior year, she was runner up to her teammate, Claire Shubin, for Player of The Year honors – where both Marissa and her team had exceptional years – again winning TRAC, AREA and Valley Championships. Losing four seniors last year from the varsity team, this year was looked upon as a rebuilding year where the team is much younger and less experienced. Even so, up to this point, Marissa has led her young and talented Clovis West Girls Golf team to a league lead. Not far behind is a talented Clovis North team with an exceptionally talented freshman, Alexa Tran. With Clovis West and Clovis North so evenly matched, it should add to a dramatic finish in league (TRAC), Areas and Valleys!
Marissa currently holds a 3.8 GPA.
Marissa has been offered athletic scholarships from two different California schools so far and has visited Fresno State (with Coach Emily Loftin) as well. The college recruitment process is ongoing – pursuing the right fit for Marissa and a program looking for a sweet and talented lefty playing at her level and looking to improve over the next year.
Most notably, Marissa is an exceptional person and teammate. She is that kid that every player and coach wants to spend 5 hours playing golf with. Irregardless if she is playing great or not having her best day, she is a good friend on the course…always positive, smiling and making the best of her situation. She makes the game of golf (extremely tough on players at times) more enjoyable.
