PAG METER DIVISION 1 FOOTBALL RANKINGS & SCHEDULES 2019
No 1 CENTRAL GRIZZLIES (0-0 (0-0 TRAC)
Last year (13-1) (5-0 TRAC CHAMPIONS) CENTRAL SECTION CHAMPIONS
Head coach Kyle Biggs
Defending Back to Back Central Section Champions will start No 1 even though they lost the best Central Section QB maybe ever. Offense returns 8 Starters and Defense returns 7 starters.
The big X factor will be who will step in and try to be the next Trent Tompkins? That will be impossible and the Grizzlies already know. . Look for the offense to be more of a running down hill offense. Seniors Jameson Silva, who transferred in from Edison and DJ Frampton, who transferred in from Clovis North are battling to be the QB.
RB Quali Conley will be even better this year but has to stay healthy because he will get plenty of carries. The Wideouts will be fantastic with Jeremiah Hunter who has verbally committed to play at Cal, Manuel Oliver-Davis, David Brown, Xavier Worthy, AJ Simpson and Jermaine Fuller.
Offensive line is returning 4 starters with Matt “Red” McCallough, DJ Tatum, Robert Lopez and E.J. Bergquist. On Defense returns 3 on the D-Line who all have starting experience. Having a GREAT off-season and finally 100% healthy is Ricky Correia. Cameron Vaughan has put on 20 LBS of muscle and Daunte Namulauulu will be able to play all 3 spots up front. A couple of Edison transfers Isa Watson and Jaylen Tate are battling for starting spots. Both starting ILB, Shando Lopez & Pag Meter All Star Je’kob Jones are back and will be even better. Dominic Mendez will be a 3 year starter on defense and a man beast. Sean Haymon (CB) , Ye’Brell Emerson will be leading the secondary.
The Grizzlies X Factor can the QB get the ball to the wideouts?

No 2 BUCHANAN BEARS (0-0) (0-0 TRAC)
Last year (10-3) (4-1 TRAC)
Head Coach Matt Giordano
The Bears have the makings to be the best team in the Central Section if everything works out. The Bears play the toughest non league schedule by far. Senior RB Kendall Milton is a beast. We are all waiting on what college Kendall will choose and it’s between LSU, Ohio State, Georgia or Alabama. (I’m guessing it’s Georgia and I was right, Kendall picked Georgia)
Can KM stay healthy? In 2017, Kendall got hurt late in the year and last year he got hurt early in the year. But this year he looks stronger than ever. If Kendall gets banged up, I would think he might shut it down and get ready for the next level and that will be at the Christmas break because Kendall will be leaving for college early.
Keep an eye on Junior Quarterback DJ Stevenson who is working his tail off!! Keep an eye on senior WR/SS CJ Jones, who’s dad Charlie played at Fresno State, should have a big year. The Offensive line will be the best in the Central Section and the defense will be very good. Leading the way on defense will be Pag Meter All Star senior Matthew Merritt.
Senior Leaders will be (OL) Zane Rix, (SS) CJ Jones, (WR) Brandon Hernandez, (OL/DL) Zack Studt, (TE/FB) Jack Skinner, and (DB) Mark Green. Key Juniors leaders will be (DB) Hayden Peterson, (DB) Cade Uehling, (WR/DB) Darrien Gaines, (OL) Kasen James, (DT) Cyrus Lo, and (WR) Steven Shelley. Look out for these Sophomores with (TE/DE) Gavin Nelson, and Caden Rodgers.
Through Hard Work, the Bears hope to be competitive again this year. Very difficult preseason and TRAC schedule.
The Bears X factor is they have the 2nd ranked best running back in the country, along with being a 5-star recruit and that is Kendall Milton. When you have the highest recruited player in valley history, the Bears are the team to beat! If Kendall stays healthy, I’m thinking 2,000 plus yards. HE’S GOING TO GEORGIA! Think about that! SEC GEORGIA!

No 3 LIBERTY PATRIOTS (0-0) (0-0 SWYL)
Last year (11-3) (5-0 SWYL CHAMPIONS)
Head Coach Bryan Nixon
The Patriots game plan for 2019 is play hard-noise Liberty physical football and cut down on mistakes!
The QB will be big and strong with junior Haden Mann who comes in at 6’2” 215 lb. Every coach loves a QB that will run you over and that’s Mann. Playing 7 vs 7 this summer has really helped Mann learn to read defenses and that will help in the Patriots passing game.
The running backs, and they also play linebacker are juniors Prentice Boone, Jason Shores, seniors Nate Mariscal, and Christian Muniz.
The wideouts are fast and it starts with senior WR/DB Ramon Henderson, has every big college recruiting him, including Notre Dame, Oklahoma and UCLA as a wide receiver and DB.
Also look for a big year with the other wideouts with Jason Oliver, Jake O’Connell, Damien Harless and the Italian Stallion Brady Torgianni. The Patriots receivers can stretch the field and that makes this physical team even more dangerous.
Upfront the Patriots are always good! The O-line will not be as big as last year but will be just as strong. Leading the way upfront on both sides of the ball will be seniors, Tyler Hughes, Sloan Simpson, Anthony Olvera and Tyler Hughes.
The Patriots have the leader in the club house for Pag Meter Kick of the year with Brayden Blevins. The Tight End is Dylan Holmes who can help the run and passing game.
On defense the Patriots will be very good upfront and at Linebacker. One of the best linebackers in the Central section is Pag Meter All Star and the SWYL Defensive Player of the year is Dylan Tooker. Junior Inside linebacker Brady Anderson, is 6’2” 210lb and fast.
The secondary is dangerous with speed with Henderson, Oliver, Jojo Montecino, Jake O’connell and Torgianni.
The Patriots X factor is the players playing both ways and staying healthy.

No 4 BULLARD KNIGHTS (0-0) (0-0 CMAC)
Last year (5-7) (3-2 CMAC)
Head Coach Don Arax and Yosef Fares
Hey Central Section, meet the sleeper team in division 1. The Knights could be that team.
The Knights have an amazing coaching staff and tremendous talent/athletes on both sides of the ball.
Junior QB Bryce Weiner should have a good year because he had a fantastic summer. If the Knights want to contend for the Central Section Championship then Weiner needs to have a nice and steady season. Bryce made his first start in the 2nd half of last year so he got some very good experience vs some outstanding defenses.
The Knights have been Running Back High School University for the last 20 years with soooo many great backs. The list of Backs…amazing!
The Knights will have to replace record setting RB Marcus Fulcher, and the guy who has the makings to be real special is senior Shalom Welch. He is fast, with power and a hard worker. Keep an eye on some other good backs who can fly with junior T’ky Posey, and senior Jalen O’Neal.
The best player on the team is 5”6 135lb dynamo Kai Sunamoto, who is fast and has a huge motor. Kai is a good old fashioned high school football player at WR/DB and is always around the football.
The Offense line is a work in progress but will get better and better.
The defense is very fast and the secondary is special. Leading the way at linebacker will be junior Jaden Streets.
The D-ends with Posey and O’Neal are extremely fast on the edge.
Seniors Kobe Jenkins, and Dre Greeley are outstanding lockdown corners along with Sunamoto in the secondary.
The Knights X factor will be the Offensive line.

No 5 EDISON TIGERS (0-0) (0-0 CMAC)
Last year (6-6) (3-2 CMAC)
Head Coach Atnaf Harris
The Tigers have cleaned house in so many ways. HC Atnaf Harris is loving this new hard working Tigers squad. The new Offensive Coordinator is former Fresno High Head Coach Joe Marquez. Joe was the former OC at Edison when Matt Johnson was the Head Coach. The Tigers have lost a ton due to transfers. Tigers finally have early morning football PE. The Tigers problem lately is players transferring. Last years QB Jamison Silva is now at Central and Tory Horton is now at Washington Union. Isa Watson and Jaylen Tate are now at Central.
The Tigers have gotten better this offseason and will have a new coaching staff with HC Atnaf Harris. This year is probably the strongest group collectively in the history of the program in the weight room. Defense to be the catalyst of the Tigers team returning 8 starters. The #1 cornerback in the Section will be Dezjohn Malone (verbally committed to play at Fresno State) who will anchor the defense along with MLB Josh Allison & OLB Rayshon Harding who will be a Pag Meter defensive player of the year candidate.
The Offense returns 6 starters and a host of young talent that is promising. The QB battle is on with soon to be sophomore Ian Miller who took every rep at QB during spring ball and brand new transfer from Memorial with junior QB Justin Klair and he has a fantastic arm. They both have to play so Ian could take over the JV team to get some snaps in. Velltray jefferson (WR) returns for his junior year and (Verbally Committed to play at USC) expecting a huge season at 6’4 205. Playing opposite side of Veltre will be 6’3 200 pound sophomore Tyrese Fairly who is just a beast and an elite basketball player. The RB returning is Brenden San Mateo and he is good! Backing Brenden will be Miles Lee who is Mckinley Lee lll younger brother. Miles is big, strong, fast and runs with an attitude. Jaidarius Jackson who does it all is a big RB that squats over 500 lbs and benches 300 lbs. The Tigers return 3 offensive linemen who have owned the weight room, very athletic and hungry and anchored by 6’5 330 Hector Cisneros who squats over 500 lbs and benched 315 lbs. Brand new Tiger is Gavin Hals who is transferring in from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa and will be one of the best offensive linemen in the Central Section. Gavin is 6’6” 305 lb and was under the radar but not any longer. Edison is getting a good one.
The X factor is the QB play and cutting down on silly mistakes which killed them last year.

No 6 BAKERSFIELD DRILLERS (0-0) (0-0 SWYL)
Last year (9-4) (4-1 SWYL)
NEW Head Coach Michael Stewart
New head coach is Michael Stewart who played at Bakersfield. The former NFL defensive back has the Drillers working hard and this is his first head job. The Driller star players, Isaac and Ian Jernagin, left for a few weeks but decided it wasn’t the right fit at Santa Margarita High in Orange County so they came back. Isaac is a huge offensive weapon and verbally committed to Nevada. Ian will never come off the field at RB and DB. Junior Ricky Easterwood will be the starting QB. He is tall and the Drillers offense is now a spread attack. Look for Ricky to be like former Tulare Union record setting QB Nate Lamb, his job was to get the ball to the athletes. Throw it up and let the rabbits run. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Ricky could be throwing for a ton of yards.
Waiting to have a fantastic year is senior RB Wesley Wilson, after rushing for 1,171 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns and most of it came in the 2nd half of the season. The receivers are fast with seniors (DB) D.J. Adams, sophomore Alex Rocha, and (FS) Elijah Lee. Leading the way on defense is senior (RB) Cameron Bonner. Leading the way upfront is seniors (C) Chris Rivera and (DT) Jaden Sanchez.
The Drillers X factor is Coach Stewart keeping this group together and O-line/D-Line.

No 7 RIDGEVIEW WOLF PACK (0-0) (0-0 SYL)
Last year (7-4) (4-1 SYL)
Head Coach Rich Cornford
The Wolf Pack will have a new Head Coach with Rich Cornford and the old coach Dennis Manning, will be the assistant coach. Coach Manning, wanted to get away from the everyday HC duties. Cornford used to be the head coach at Frontier.
Senior QB Justin Hinzo comes off a real good junior year and has a cannon. Justin will have a ton of talent around him.
The running backs will be very good with the top Titan athlete, Shawn Allen, who was the SYL offensive player of the year. He is fast, smart, and will only be a junior. The Titans will use him in a variety of ways. Junior WR/RB Zion Hall, will be another key asset offensively along with senior Alijah Alexander-Williams who will also play linebacker.
The receivers are real good with some juniors, 6’3” Anthony Ramirez, and slot back King Ellis, who both will stretch the field.
The offensive line has some big pieces and the key will be how well they mesh together as a unit. Leading the way will be junior Maximis Hidalgo, who is the top returner on a line that will average over 265 pounds per man.
The defense will be fast all over the place and the front seven will be tough with pressure. Leading the way upfront will be Tommy Strickland.
With returning starters like OLB Ramirez and junior MLB Justin Spainhoward, the Linebackers will be fast and strong.
The secondary will be electric with speed.
If the Pack plays good defense then they will easily be a contender. This is a team to keep an eye on. Loaded with speed!
The Wolf Pack X Factor is the O-line playing together.

No 8 CLOVIS COUGARS (0-0) (0-0 TRAC)
Last year (7-5) (2-3 TRAC)
Head Coach Rich Hammond
The Cougars will be young in spots and the future looks bright in Cougar Country. Clovis hasn’t had speed like this in years, brings in 24 seniors with an ultra talented group of sophomores and a couple division 1 talented juniors, this team has the makings to be real good.
Senior QB Isaiah Robles, returns and he’s ready for a big year. The future Cougars QB is sophomore Nate Johnson and he is good! He’s not ready yet but he will be very soon. Nate is electric running and throwing the football.
Offensively the O-line is real good with 4 returning starters and leading the way will be seniors Josh Delacruz, and Garrett Harris.
Leading the way at RB will be junior Jordan Hilford, and senior Jonathan Johnson.
The wideouts are fast with senior Grant Lake, who has great hands, junior Jake Woods, and do everything sophomore Nate Johnson.
Defensively it should look like some of the older physical Cougars units of the past in the Blue Flu ERA.
The D-Line has the potential to be the best Coach Hammond has had in his 11 years of coaching at Clovis. Junior Keanu Williams, will be a beast playing at 6’5, 260 lbs, getting plenty of offers including USC and Utah. Also on the D-line will be junior 6’3 220lb Ayden Merrihew, and Johnson.
The Linebackers are special and leading the way will be 3 year starter Byron Fountain.
Secondary will be young but talented and leading the way will be Lake, Moses Saenz, and Skylar Coon.
Some young stars to keep an eye on will be Tristan Risley who will contribute immediately and Track star Julius Grant who moves so well with his top end speed.
The Cougars will be tested early with a very good Bullard Knights team, Salinas Mustangs brings back a Power 5 QB, and a big seeding game vs the Liberty Patriots before the tough TRAC.
The Cougars X factor is the last 5 years the Cougars have gotten beaten up with injuries. Must stay healthy to contend.

Last year (13-1) (5-0 EYL CHAMPIONS) DIVISION 2 back to back Champs!
Head Coach Darren Bennett
The Tribe move up to division 1 and it’s always a few years to late. The Tribe will compete in the big boy division but they don’t play any division 1 teams or in a division 1 league. Keep an eye on stud DB Xavier Haley who will be the next Tribe star. The Tribe will reload with plenty of speed. Junior Willie James is back at WR after catching 86 footballs for 1,207 yards and scored 13 TD’s. Willie will be one of the best Tribe Wide Receivers in school history by the time he graduates.
Taking over for record setting QB Nate Lamb, will be sophomore Victor Espinoza, who has a very good arm and can run which will give the Tribe another weapon with his legs.
The Tribe X factor will be Victor at QB and can he get the football to the speedsters? Also the O-line.

The Eagles are big, physical and they will line up and pound you.
The foundation of the Eagles will be the O Line. 4 big returners with experience.
Junior, Ethan Royal, will be the Eagles QB who was the JV QB last year.
Caleb Tomasin and Elijah Castro will be main running backs. Solid group of receivers. Defense has plenty of returners but will have some young players. The secondary will be real good and leading the way will be Castro, Epi Moreno, Sebastian Angulo,TJ Valenti and Mason Thompson. Some new faces up front on the D-line.
The Eagles will be breaking in a new kicker but have some promising prospects.
This is the 2nd year playing with the valley teams and the Eagles are the most physical team.
The Eagles X Factor is the defense and hanging with the speedy teams on the schedule. The Eagles will be on the road until Oct 11 because of Doug Hitchen Stadium is being upgraded and is being hit with construction delays. Check the latest schedule below.

Last year (2-9) (2-3 TRAC)
NEW Head Coach is Tim Randall
The Golden Eagles played one of the toughest schedules last year with a very young team.
The Golden Eagles return 25 seniors, with the vast majority having started or seen significant playing time last year. This team will be scrappy and playing another killer schedule.
Senior linebackers will Mateo Morales who will hold it down in the middle along with Tanner Ewell and and Nathan Mendoza who all started last year and played well.
The defensive line will be anchored by returning starters Derek Moreland, Nick Regalado and Marcel Sanders. David Pierro returns as a do everything player in the secondary.
The offense will be led by quarterback Brad Sennaway.
The running back will be Brandon Wafer who has speed and power. Leading the way upfront will be tackle Jacob Lira, Dewayne Benjamin, Chris Shambourger and Pierro will play significant roles at the receiver spots as well. Dont sleep on CW! They were a few plays away from winning 6 or 7 games. Coach Randell is doing a great job and the kids are fired up for Clovis West football.
The X factor is the QB play and the big guys up front. Killer schedule.

Last year (2-8) (1-4 TRAC)
New Head Coach Mike Jacot
The Broncos simply come off a horrible year and have decided to stay in division 1. That’s good news because the Broncos future looks real good.
New Head Coach is Mike Jacot and new offensive Coordinator is George Petrissans who was the CW Head Coach. Jacot has changed the culture and the players look like a family now. The offense is loving Coach Petrissans and his style. The weekly improvements from 7v7 was big as everyone learned the offense and defense. The Broncos will be much better and leading the way is senior QB Trenton Luera who is big, strong and very smart and will have the Broncos ready. The old QB saw the writing on the way and transferred because Trenton is that good.
Two of the best linemen in the TRAC will be seniors Cade Foraker and Keenan Madsen. (Keenan’s Dad, Josh, played QB/LB at Clovis West and played safety at Stanford). Both Cade and Keenan have a motor and are strong. The wideouts will be very good with senior Caden Eaves and junior Brandon Lemee. J’Den Orr has been flying under the radar but I think he will make a name for himself this year at DB/WR. Juniors Brendan Casto and Michael Jacot will be tough over the top at safety. The Future looks good for the Broncos with their youth.
The X factor is the Broncos defense vs a very tough schedule. This team will get better and better every week.

No 14 CENTENNIAL GOLDEN HAWKS (0-0) (0-0 SWYL)
Last year (6-5) (2-3 SWYL)
NEW Head Coach is Richard Starret
Coach Starret comes from coaching in Texas where football is a way of life and he brings major enthusiasm and energy that will make practice fun for the players. The Golden Hawks will be a power spread offense that wants to snap the ball quickly.
The Golden Hawks were young last year and this year will be much better. Senior QB Max Richey, can throw it but might just be a better runner and that will make Max even more dangerous. Max Gained 20 lbs since last season, hardest worker on the team and poised for a breakout year. Didn’t fit well in the previous offensive scheme, will be really a dual threat player in the new power spread scheme. Can run and will be hard to bring down at 205 but also can throw all the necessary balls to be a big time breakout player in kern county. Was really impressive in 7on7 season going 12-2 overall, and that’s without using Max biggest strength of his game, the Play action pass. Max favorite target will be senior WR/DB Morgan Dutton, who is a 3-year starter. Leading the way up front will be Morell Kemp, who is the returning leader on the offensive line. Extremely athletic for a big guy and might play some TE.
A star will be born with sophomore RB Elijah Finney.
Leading the defense which will fly to the ball will be senior (DB) Morgan Dutton and junior (LB) Jacob Navarro, who is a returning starter as a soph, physical leader of the defense, athletic and getting plenty of college looks. The Golden Hawks could be the sleeper team.
The Golden Hawks X Factor is getting better and better every week and the Wide receivers.
