DIVISION 5 FOOTBALL SCHEDULES 2018
FINAL RANKINGS

No 1 KENNEDY THUNDERBIRDS (12-2) (5-1 SSL) CHAMPIONS!
Last year the Birds went (6-6) (3-3 S Seq)
Head Coach Mario Millan
The Thunderbirds have 8 of 11 players on both offense and defense coming back that started in the playoffs last year. This team is much faster overall this year and have a lot of experience. QB David Estrada is a 3 year varsity starter who’s knowledge of the Kennedy system will allow for him to run the Wing-T offense to perfection. His throwing ability will keep defenses out of the box.
Senior Tyreak Walker returns at running back after a big junior year and brings in a lot of speed and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Senior Yoncanni Sandoval PR/KR, will get plenty of carries who has amazing speed and shiftiness. He will be a threat on every special team return and in the outside Wing-T run game.
At receiver will be Luis Perez who is a 3 year varsity starter. His off season work and his precise route running ability and size will make him a big threat for 1 on 1 coverages.
3rd year as a starter is OT Ivan Garza who is 6’5, 275 lb. His size and athleticism will make him one the best offensive tackles in the area. As a defensive end he can control the edge of the offense.
On defense is junior NG Eddie Hernandez who played varsity as a sophomore. His speed and strength at the nose guard position will demand double teams and give centers fits. Senior DB Johnny Carrillo is a returning senior who is a quick and a smart corner. He offseason work and his tenacity and technique will give receivers many problems.
The Birds are very fast on defense and has the makings of a Championship teams.
The X factor is the turnovers with the Wing T offense.

Last year the Generals went (9-3) (5-1 S Seq)
Head Coach Jerald Pierucci
The Generals were so close last year but just ran out of defense.
This year the Generals could be the team to beat with senior QB Alex Aguilar who is the most dangerous QB’s in the Section. The junior last year threw for 2,750 yards with 29 touchdowns, rushed for 1,370 yards and scored 22 touchdowns.

No 3 CARUTHERS BLUE RAIDERS (12-1) (6-0 WSL CHAMPIONS)
Last year the Blue Raiders went (12-1) (5-0 West Sequoia CHAMPIONS) SECTION CHAMPIONS
Head Coach Brandon Ward
The Blue Raiders had a magical year going 12-0 and winning the Section Championship.
Coming back after rushing for 1,506 yards will be senior Chris Puga. I like the thinking of the Blue Raiders and that’s getting the ball in the hands of your best player and look for Puga to play a little QB. Soph lefty Trenten Babb will start at QB. In the backfield will be junior Bobby Staley (LB) and senior Eric Gonzalez (CB). The top receiver will be junior Isaac Franco (WR/TE) and he is good. Junior Brady Pease a transfer from Immanuel who grew up in Caruthers will play wide receiver.
The entire OL returns with seniors Isaac DeLa Rosa, Isaiah Pando, Adrian Martinez and Jonathan Sanchez.
The Defense will be real good with most coming back.
Outstanding NT/OT Caleb Delgado returns from (ACL) in November.
The X factor If Puga plays great and the Blue Raiders defense plays great then the Blue Raiders might just go 10-0 again.

Last year the Tigers went (3-7) (0-5 E Seq)

No 6 FIREBAUGH EAGLES (8-4) (5-0 WSL CHAMPIONS
Last year the Eagles went (10-3) (5-0 West Sierra)
Head Coach Dejon Kelly
The Eagle players that played in the Section Championship game at Caruthers are still thinking about the questionable calls at the end of the game in the lost 49-42.
Will that be the Eagles motivation to get back to the big game?
Coming back will be outstanding senior QB Jeshua Gutierrez who threw for 2,869 yards, with 36 TD passes, rushed for 581, and scored 2 TD’s.
The X factor and it’s every year for the Eagles is the DEFENSE. The Eagles offense can light up the scoreboard but so does the Eagles opponent.

No 7 DOS PALOS BRONCOS (6-6) (4-1 WSL)
Last year the Broncos (3-7) (2-3 WSL)
NEW Head Coach is Rob Calvert
The big X factor for the Broncos….will players stop transferring out! It’s hard to build a program when players are leaving. The Broncos are very athletic and have a ton of potential but haven’t been the same since Coach Rob Calvert left. The good news is Rob is coaching the JV team so he is kind of back grooming the young Broncos. The New QB will be senior Isaac Adams. Dos Palos averages 264 pounds across the offensive line. The line is led by a trio of juniors who return as starters in Herbert Sanders (6-foot-0, 315 pounds), Isaac Carnell (6-1, 260) and Juan Carlos Orozco (5-9, 255). The Broncos also return two senior running backs in Maximus Gaona and Ronald Johnson and a very promising sophomore in Ryan Ramirez, who may be the biggest and fastest back at 6’1 and 200 lbs.
