The Grizzlies are back!

Central is coming off its best season and its first section title in school history.

Now they look forward to doing same this year as the Grizzlies are once again led by the most dangerous QB in the valley Senior Trent Tompkins. Tompkins had a phenomenal year last season with over 3,600 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, over 500 rushing yards, and 4 touchdowns. Trent was also named Pag Meter offensive player of the year. Central kicked off its season last week against Edison and the Grizzlies offense showed no signs of slowing down as they racked up over 500 offensive yards and 19 first downs. All the rumors about Tompkins hand, when he hurt it this offseason, were put to sleep as Trent threw for 368 yards, 4 touchdowns, and ran for 69 yards and 1 touchdown. Tompkins stated after the game “I think my performance could have been better but the O-line and wide receivers really helped me and backed me up the whole game.

Trent wasn’t the only Grizzlie who had everyone’s eye, Junior Quail Conley had a big game with over 30 yards rushing and 112 yards receiving alongside with one touchdown. Conley wasn’t the only junior who had a big impact, WR Jeremiah Hunter had 9 catches, 95 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Tyrell Garyson the senior WR also had 61 receiving yards and a big touchdown. Central offense wasn’t the only thing that everyone’s buzzing about. The Grizzlies defense came to play allowing no points last week. Sophomore Dominic Mendez had a big game with 11 tackles and 2 sacks. Senior DB Silas Proby had 3 tackles and a ridiculous interception grab.

Central will now prepare for game two of the season and take on the Grant Pacers from Sacramento Friday night at Koligian Stadium. Grant is coming off a 59-28 win against Davis last week. The key to this game is which defense is going to step up and make big plays. Both teams can score and score a lot, Central does have the upper edge against the Pacers run defense. This game can quickly turn into a shootout! Come out Friday night at 7:30 pm Koligian Stadium as the Pacers take on the Grizzlies.
