DIVISION 5 FOOTBALL SCHEDULES 2018

No 1 CARUTHERS BLUE RAIDERS (WSL) SECTION CHAMPIONS
Last year the Blue Raiders went (12-1) (5-0 West Sequoia CHAMPIONS)
Head Coach Brandon Ward
The Blue Raiders had a magical year going 12-0 and winning the Section Championship.
Coming back after rushing for 1,506 yards will be senior Chris Puga. I like the thinking of the Blue Raiders and that’s getting the ball in the hands of your best player and look for Puga to play QB. In the backfield will be junior Bobby Staley (LB) and senior Eric Gonzalez (CB). The top receiver will be junior Isaac Franco (WR/TE) and he is good. Junior Brady Pease a transfer from Immanuel who grew up in Caruthers will play wide receiver.
The entire OL returns with seniors Isaac DeLa Rosa, Isaiah Pando, Adrian Martinez and Jonathan Sanchez.
The Defense will be real good with most coming back.
Outstanding NT/OT Caleb Delgado returns from (ACL) in November.
The X factor If Puga plays great at QB then the Blue Raiders might just go 10-0 again.

No 2 SHAFTER GENERALS (SSL)
Last year the Generals went (9-3) (5-1 S Seq)
Head Coach Jerald Pierucci
The Generals were so close last year but just ran out of defense.
This year the Generals could be the team to beat with senior QB Alex Aguilar who is the most dangerous QB’s in the Section. The junior last year threw for 2,750 yards with 29 touchdowns, rushed for 1,370 yards and scored 22 touchdowns.
The X factor again will be the defense. If the Generals can play good defense then they could be playing in Championship night.

No 3 KENNEDY THUNDERBIRDS (SSL)
Last year the Birds went (6-6) (3-3 S Seq)
Head Coach Mario Millan
The Thunderbirds have 8 of 11 players on both offense and defense coming back that started in the playoffs last year. This team is much faster overall this year and have a lot of experience. QB David Estrada is a 3 year varsity starter who’s knowledge of the Kennedy system will allow for him to run the Wing-T offense to perfection. His throwing ability will keep defenses out of the box.
Senior Tyreak Walker returns at running back after a big junior year and brings in a lot of speed and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Senior Yoncanni Sandoval PR/KR, will get plenty of carries who has amazing speed and shiftiness. He will be a threat on every special team return and in the outside Wing-T run game.
At receiver will be Luis Perez who is a 3 year varsity starter. His off season work and his precise route running ability and size will make him a big threat for 1 on 1 coverages.
3rd year as a starter is OT Ivan Garza who is 6’5, 275 lb. His size and athleticism will make him one the best offensive tackles in the area. As a defensive end he can control the edge of the offense.
On defense is junior NG Eddie Hernandez who played varsity as a sophomore. His speed and strength at the nose guard position will demand double teams and give centers fits. Senior DB Johnny Carrillo is a returning senior who is a quick and a smart corner. He offseason work and his tenacity and technique will give receivers many problems.
The Birds are very fast on defense and has the makings of a Championship teams.
The X factor is the turnovers with the Wing T offense.

No 4 LIBERTY MADERA HAWKS (NSL)

Last year the overachievers played in division 4. The Hawks really belong in division 5 with 589 student body and they are back where they belong. Hey division 5….the Hawks are back!
Senior RB/LB Wyatt Roth returns and he is good!
This team returns plenty and they are always a well coached machine on both sides of the ball.

Last year the Badgers went (9-1)
Head Coach Chance Sigala
The Badgers have a new head coach and a former Clovis Cougar in 2007 and the Badgers are always a hard nose team that play both ways. The Badgers are back in the North Sequoia League. Senior QB Tyson Mansfield  returns and the team leader.
Leading the way will be junior Nicholas Harper who is a very good running back and safety. Also at running back will be Diego Combs, Ernie Jimenez, Justin Micallef, Matt Dugovic and Kyler Schaeffer. These guys are ver athletic. The receivers will be Sophomore Steven Baker, senior Paul Antonis, sophomore Holden Eames, Chris Fuller, Nick Pierce and Kevin Welborn. The offensive line will be real good with Caleb Burke, Noah Burns, Troy Fite, Nicolas Guynn, Sean Miller, George Olmedo and Ryan O’Meara. The defense will be very good with plenty returning.

No 6 HANFORD WEST HUSKIES (CSL)
Last year the Huskies went (4-8) (0-6 WYL)
Head Coach Matthew Tesoriere
The Huskies move into the Central Sequoia league and they will be the fastest team in division 5. If there is ever a sleeper team…it’s the Huskies.
The QB will be the speedster with junior Josiah James.
Thunder and lightning in the backfield with senior Jayron Jenkins who is the thunder and Junior Daylon Mitchell and he will be a star this year at running back is the lightning.
Leading the receivers will be senior Antonio Perez.
The defense will be fast and leading the way will be junior Keantre Davis. He started last year and a year older, bigger, stronger, and much faster than most Wide outs.
The X factor is the defense because many division 5 teams are very physical so the front 7 on defense will need to step up.

No 7 FIREBAUGH EAGLES (WSL)
Last year the Eagles went (10-3) (5-0 West Sierra)
Head Coach Dejon Kelly
The Eagle players that played in the Section Championship game at Caruthers are still thinking about the questionable calls at the end of the game in the lost 49-42.
Will that be the Eagles motivation to get back to the big game?
Coming back will be outstanding senior QB Jeshua Gutierrez who threw for 2,869 yards, with 36 TD passes, rushed for 581, and scored 2 TD’s.
The X factor and it’s every year for the Eagles is the DEFENSE. The Eagles offense can light up the scoreboard but so does the Eagles opponent.

No 9 CORCORAN PANTHERS (ESL)
Last year the Panthers went (1-9) (1-4 E Seq)
Head Coach Grant Kapigian
The Panthers were young last year and will be so much better this year but they have to stay healthy. Corcoran could be the most improved team in the valley.
Returning senior QB Jayden Mustain will have plenty of weapons this year to spread the ball around with junior receivers Cesar Acosta, Karay Frazier and Demarcus Thompson. Upfront the leaders will be Seniors Jacob Guzman, Juan Perez & Nathaniel Flores.
Senior RB Julian Escalante looks ready to bounce back from a junior season that was cut short due to injuries.
Defensively, juniors Francisco Cabrera, Jesus Rojas and Thompson will be anchoring the DL while Perez and Soph Yvan Hernandez will lead this year’s LB core with Acosta roaming the secondary. The Panthers are always a physical football team.

The Toads lost the entire line from last year (all seniors). Very young upfront Offensively and Defensively.
