Timberwolves Stay Hot

After coming off an emotional and high scoring affair with the Broncos last Tuesday, both teams would turn to their aces in the rubber match of the season series. Clovis North came out and capitalized off an early error, grabbing a 1-0 against the Wolfpack. The next 6 innings both Riley Cooper and Jared Aguilar would breeze through their opponents line-ups. In the top of the 7th, Cooper sat down the first two Timberwolves sent to the plate. In an 0-2 count, senior Danny Gamez, got the ball rolling with a 2-out double down the 3rd base line. After getting to a 3-2 count, junior Carlos Fuentes scored the first run of the evening for the Timberwolves, and the ball began rolling. Following a passed ball, Trevin Qualls, gave the Timberwolves the lead with a single to left. An error got Qualls to second and Tyler Parker finished the scoring with a single to left, giving the Wolfpack a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Jared Aguilar would silence the Broncos and give the Timberwolves their first series win of the season.

Danny Gamez- (2-3, 2B)

Carlos Fuentes- (2-3, RBI, R)

Trevin Qualls- (1-2, BB, RBI, R)

Following the big wins the previous week against a very good Clovis North squad, the Wolfpack would turn their attention to the Clovis Cougars. Falling in the previous match-up gave the Timberwolves a reason to play angry. However, the Cougs would score first and grab an early 2-0 lead. After adding on another run in the bottom of the 4th, the Timberwolves found themselves in a hole. After loading up the bases in the top of the 5th, junior Matt Mathis would put the Wolfpack on the board with a single to center. Danny Gamez would tie the game after an error by the Cougars. Matt Mathis would come into the game and shut the game down, not letting Clovis get any momentum. Leaving multiple runners on base would plague the Timberwolves and send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 9th, Trevin Qualls would break the game open with a 2-out, 2-strike single scoring 2 runs and giving the Wolfpack a 5-3 lead. When the Cougars threatened in the bottom half of the inning, the Timberwolves turned to Jared Aguilar to close out the game. Getting 2 crucial outs with runners in scoring position would give the Wolfpack their 15th win of the season and tie up the series to one a piece. The Cougars and Timberwolves will see each other again Friday when the two best pitchers in the valley will go at it. First pitch at 6:30 at Clovis East Stadium.
