Timberwolves Back on Track

After two heartbreaking one run losses to both Clovis North and Clovis High, Saturday, the Timberwolves traveled to Clovis West to take on the Golden Eagles. Clovis East came out on fire, scoring two runs in the first inning. With ace Jared “Aggie” Aguilar, on the mound that would prove to be enough. Aggie mowed down the aggressive hitting Eagles for 7 innings, only allowing one hit! A late home run by sophomore Tyler Parker would put the game out of reach, and the Timberwolves would pick up their first TRAC win of the season beating CW 5-0. The Wolfpack would look to keep the ball rolling as they geared up for the Fresno Easter Classic.
On Monday, Clovis East welcomed the Hanford Bullpups. As the visiting team, the Timberwolves did not hesitate to take an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first. However, the Bullpups were not fazed putting up 3 in the bottom half of the inning, but those would be their only runs of the game. Sophomore pitcher, Gino Helmuth would close the door on the Pups, going 6 strong innings. In the third inning, the Timberwolves would break away with 3 runs, and adding 6 more in the next two innings. The Wolfpack would finish the game winning 12-3 behind strong performances from Casey Durham(3-3, 2 RBI, BB, HBP), Jared Aguilar(3-5, HR, 2 2B, 4 RBI), and Danny Gamez(2-3). Game 2 would not go as planned for Clovis East. Foothill would get to junior Matthew Mathis, scoring a run in the top of the first. The Timberwolves would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Clovis East would pull away with a 4 run inning in the fourth. Foothill would follow with a 4 run inning of their own in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 5. After giving up 10 runs in the final 3 innings, the Wolfpack was just unable to answer back, falling 11-8. Jared Aguilar(1-2, 2B, 2 HBP), Trevin Qualls(1-2, HR, 2 RBI), and Matthew Mathis(1-2, HR, 2 BB).
Clovis East would look for another win Tuesday against a tough Granite Bay squad. Sophomore Tyler Parker would take the mound for the Timberwolves, and would live up to expectations. Parker would throw a complete game 3-hitter. And the offense would help him out with 2 runs in both the 4th and 5th innings, and winning 4-0. Jared Aguilar(2-3, HR), Danny Gamez(2-3, 2B, RBI), and Matthew Mathis(1-2, RBI, BB).
On Wednesday, the Timberwolves would look to finish off a long week with a win against Sunnyside. Junior Derek Righetti got the ball and would go 2 ⅓ innings, followed by Casey Durham(3 innings), Trevin Qualls(⅔ inning), and Corbin Hennesay(1 inning). The offense would struggle against the Wildcats’ Jose Lemus, but would scratch out a run in the top of the second. The pitching staff would hold off Sunnyside, sealing the deal with a win making it a 4-1 record for the Timberwolves this week. Matthew Mathis(1-2, BB), Paul Flores(1-2), and Jesse Hernandez(1-2).
Clovis East will host the Buchanan Bears Wednesday(6:30) and the Central Grizzlies Friday(6:30).
