These girls are going to compete and are athletic and hungry coming off a successful 2017 capping it off with the program’s first valley championship in its history. The Coaches this year will lean on Junior Pitcher/Third Basemen Charline Sandoval and Senior Center Fielder Sayra Sanchez as leaders for the team, and with Junior dynamic duo of 2nd Basemen Alyssa Sanchez and Shortstop Stephanie Rodriguez they are top notch. the team is learning to adjust moving up to Division 5 with a young roster and is ready to surprise the doubters and the nay-sayers and are ready to make a deep run in the playoffs a year after winning it all in Division 6 and their opponents should not take them lightly. The Coaches will work to keep them motivated and positive and push the girls to give it their full potential and leave everything on the field…Fear The Lady Aztecs!!!
MHS Baseball Preview
This season Mendota is looking to get off on the right foot and build on what they accomplished last season. Mendota only won 8 games in 2017 (Lindsay, Laton, Roosevelt, Avenal & Tranquillity x2, & Kern Valley). In the Last 2 out of 3 years they did not have a JV team and have not gone to playoffs since 2015. They are Hoping to match last season’s win total of 8 games with a young and inexperienced roster starting with 1st year seniors, Christin Muratalla, Eric Segura, Marquez Navarro, Isaiah Torrez, Ramon Gonzalez. Then with returning Juniors Isaiah Clark, Isaak Flores
Eddie Rodriguez. And coming from the lower levels and 1st year varsity players The Ruiz Twins
Andre & Sebastian Ruiz along with 1st time Juniors Robert Jasso and 1st time ever to put a glove on…John Locke and finally Sophomore Elijah Torrez rounds out the roster. With those players, Mendota is hoping to field a competitive varsity team with a predetermined schedule with Class A Powerhouse Aptos out of the Central Coast Section, Santa Cruz League, D-3 and WSL Opponent Firebaugh aka: “The School North of Us”, D-3 Opponent Reedley, And the top two teams in Division 5 Liberty-Madera Ranchos and Mariposa County. And for WSL play they hope to win more than 2 games because the WSL is so top heavy with Firebaugh, Coalinga, And Dos Palos as contenders. And here are two things that Mendota and its baseball team will assure their fans that they will work hard and be positive. And the coaches will and are trying to make positive changes to the program.
