WSL Athletics Playoffs, 2nd Round Preview: “Eagles vs. Horned Toads battle for ticket in D-V Semifinals”

Firebaugh, The (3) seed in the Division 5 Playoffs enjoyed a bye week last week as they waited for the winner of (6) Coalinga/(11) Lindsay. In which the Horned Toads took the win 41-7 and will now get another chance at the Eagles of Firebaugh who took the WSL Title undefeated with their 26-19 win back on November 3rd. Eagles will look for home-field advantage and the crowd to be behind them as they go for back-to-back wins against Coalinga Friday night at Eagles Stadium.

Coalinga makes only their 3rd Appearance in the CIF Playoffs as a member of the WSL and their 1st since 2014 (2012, 2nd Rd & 2014 2nd Rd), And they will get another shot at the WSL Champions Firebaugh who back on November 3rd in the Regular Season Finale/WSL Championship Game scored the go-ahead TD with 1:54 left in the game en route to the 26-19 win for the Eagles. Coalinga will also look to end a streak of being eliminated in the 2nd Round of playoffs and get into the Final Four with the winner of the game going out to Caruthers and the (1) Seed Blue Raiders in the Semifinals.

On a personal note, On behalf of the Staff at WSL Athletics…I would like to give my sincere condolences to the Family of Tony Perry AKA: The DB Guru of Edison High who passed away unexpectedly this past Saturday, He was a really good guy who was passionate about the game and passionate about the kids he got to coach during his football career and passionate about life itself. I got lucky to meet him and he gave me some good advice about football and life…he will be missed…May he RIP as he joins Coach Anthony Taylor of Kerman High who passed away at the beginning of the season as two great coaches that we lost too soon… #RIPDBGURU #RIPCoachTaylor
