WSL Athletics Week 10 Preview: “Coalinga & Firebaugh face off for WSL Crown”

Dos Palos ended their 7-game losing streak with their 27-7 win over Tranquillity last week and earned their 2nd win of the 2017 season. The Broncos have had a rough offseason with an overhaul of their coaching staff and promotion of JV Head Coach Kevin Jones to the Varsity position and with several players leaving off to other schools made it tough for the Dos Palos Football Program. They hope to end the season on a high note with a win on the road in Avenal this Friday night. Dos Palos Broncos hopefully will ride off into the sunset on the beach known as Buccaneers Stadium.
Tranquillity once again went through another tough team this time hosting the Dos Palos Broncos on the Tiger’s Senior Night and it’s one they hope to forget after a 27-7 loss and will now finish their season on the road against Mendota in another edition of “The Old School Rivalry” AKA: The West’s Most Hated Rivalry on Friday night under the lights at Aztecs Stadium.
Firebaugh got some much needed practice for this week’s WSL Championship Game with a dominant win over Avenal 54-0, Leaving the field satisfied and feeling good about their chances against Coalinga on Senior Night this Friday at Eagles Stadium AKA The Eagles Nest as the Eagles look for the 2nd WSL title since 2014 when they were involved in the Historic 5-Way Tie with Mendota, Coalinga, Dos Palos, & Avenal and their first under Head Coach Dejon Kelly.
Avenal looked hurt after their 54-0 shutout home loss to Firebaugh last week and will try to gather the pieces and hopefully can end their season on a high note with a win against the Dos Palos Broncos at home on Senior Night for the Bucs this Friday night.
Coalinga got through one of their toughest opponents this season in an important game as the Horned Toads of Coalinga punched in their ticket to the WSL Championship Game after their 7-0 win over Mendota on Coalinga’s Senior Night. With that win, it sets up a chance to win the WSL as Outright Undefeated Champs with a win on the road against Firebaugh at Eagles Stadium. Coalinga is looking for their 3rd WSL Crown and their 2nd Undefeated WSL Title with their first being in 2012 under HC John Villa, The second as part of the 5-way tie in 2014 Under HC David Lewis who now is HC at Avenal.
Mendota’s chances of sharing the WSL Crown went down the drain after their 7-0 road loss to Coalinga, They will look to finish the Regular Season on a high note with a win over Tranquillity on Senior Night at Aztecs Stadium and hopefully the CIF will be nice to Mendota and give them a decent seed in the Division 4 Playoffs with a potential 5-5 Record and 1-1 against D-4 Opponents (Loss vs. Liberty-Madera Ranchos, Win @ Roosevelt)
