Frontier Titans (4-0) vs Mission Oak Hawks (0-5)

The Titans are on fire and the Hawks have played a tough schedule. The X factor is the Hawks defense and they will need a huge game to stay in this one. Can they slow down Tye Johnson and the Titans running game? The Hawks have lost 7 straight dating back to last year. Last win was on Oct 21st, 2016 beating Monache in overtime.

Panthers new QB Zorian Temple gives the offense some big energy. In the tough loss to Roosevelt 18-15, Zorian Temple scored on a 26 yard TD run and Devontae Massey out jumped the Rough Riders on 4th and 27 for a 29 yard TD pass from Temple. I like the Panthers offense when they go empty backfield and giving Temple the option to run or throw short passes.
The X factor is who can avoid big penalties because somebody will be getting their first win.

Jordan Daniels rushed for 128 yards and scored both Patriots TD’s (10 and 12 yards) and head coach Justin Nast gets his first win as the new coach. Hoover broke a 0-26 streak in non league games and first win since Sept 21, 2012 when Hoover beat Washington Union 34-21. The Panthers Devonte Massey caught a 23 yard TD pass from Victor Nava

The Wildcats offense played much better but the defense couldn’t slow down Exeter. The Bears come in getting their first win beating Mira Monte 32-0.

The Tigers got their first win beating McLane 46-18 and the Eagles will finish at 9-1.  The Eagles is rolling. Braden Wingle went 27-of-42 for 386 yards and 4 touchdowns including a 61 yarder to Alex Wallace in the win over Tehachapi.
The X factor is the Tigers offense and can they keep the Eagles offense off the field with long drives? Not a chance.

Shafter Generals (3-1) (1-0) at Kennedy Thunderbirds (1-3) (0-1)

It’s the Generals spread offense vs the power running of the Thunderbirds. This is a big division 5 seeding game. Kennedy lost to Kerman 39-20, Tyreak Walker had a breakout game rushing for 213 yards and scored 2 TD’s with runs of 65 and 29 yards. The Generals lost to Golden Valley 35-20.
The X factor is the defense and who wants to step up. The Generals sure did!!

The X factor is the Pioneers defense and can they slow down the Miners offense? MW could not.  MW has won the last 3 meetings.

The X factor if the Huskies can’t win this year then turn the keys in because the Bullpups are struggling on offense. Get ready for the Huskies to be leaving the West Yosemite league and taking off to the Central Sequoia league. The Bullpups are battle tested for this one.

Division 2 and division 5 are light years different and the Bullpups showed that. Travone Houston rushed for 111 yards and scored on a 25 yard TD run.  Theron Dutra rushed for 100 yards and scored on a 16 yard TD run. QB Juaron Watts-Brown scored on a 75 yard TD run. 

 

Redwood Rangers (2-3) at Lemoore Tigers (2-3)

The Rangers lost a tough one to Tulare Western 14-7 on a goal line stand. Drew Stogstill 10 pass from Hector Gonzalez was the only score. The Tigers lost in double overtime to Sanger 40-38 when the Tigers couldn’t get the 2 point play. Tigers QB Kristian Gayton threw 3 TD passes.
The X factor is this could come down to the final minutes. The Tigers offense is dangerous and the Rangers defense is good. This should be a good game!
The Tigers defense needs to step up to win at home.

Castrejon also rushed for 96 yards and a score on 20 carries. RB David Contreras led the team with 124 yards rushing and a TD. Junior receiver Jesus Romo caught 8 passes for 108 yards and a score
The X factor is the Aztecs are dangerous on offense.

Clovis Cougars (4-1) at Centennial Golden Hawks (1-3)

The Cougars are flat out beat up and the good news for the Cougars, QB Payton Mayer will be back after the bye week after injuring his non throwing arm 2 weeks ago. The Cougars don’t have a lot of depth and now banged up. Even outstanding running back Cole Roberts is hurt with a high ankle sprain. It will be a game time decision for Cole but I bet he doesn’t play and gets ready for TRAC play.
For the G Hawks they haven’t played well yet for 48 minutes. In the loss to Bullard, the G Hawks committed 4 big turnovers.
The X factor is Centennial is a good team and with the Cougars being banged up, I can’t imagine the G Hawks losing at home. Keep in mind though, the Cougars are like Rocky the movie…..they are tough to beat and you can’t knock-em out. AMAZING COUGAR HEART!! QB Will Alexander needs to go off this week because Thursday the Red Hot Golden Eagles come to town. If the Cougars win, it will be because the defense played outstanding.

With the scored tied 28-28 with 1:12 to go, the banged up Cougars did the old pump and go, the G Hawks bit like an old bird. Jake Sanders hit Matt Sanchez on a 53 yard TD pass and the game winner. Jason Hunt tied the score 28-28 with a 1 yard TD run and also scored on a 40 yard TD run. G Hawks QB Will Alexander threw for 2 TD’s and scored on 2 TD runs.

I love to see that the old rivalry is played at Ratcliffe Stadium.
The Golden Eagles should be 3-0 and don’t get me started with the CW-Liberty game. CW is rolling now as expected on both sides of the ball. The offense is dangerous and the defense is real good. The only issue with the Golden Eagles offense is they can’t run the ball between the tackles. Literally can’t run the ball between the tackles. (only 2 total yards as a team) The CW offense isn’t built to run down hill but it’s built to go over you and around you. Junior QB Dante Chachere (69-120, 708 yards, 6 TD passes) has figured out this QB thing and his friends at WR are Rodney Wright (14 receptions), Ricardo Arias (9), Nick Coleman (13), Gabe Solorio (11), and Chad Day (10) just to name a few are real good!
For the young Knights, they are playing better and better. It starts and ends with junior RB Marcus Fulcher who has rushed for 420 yards and has scored 3 TD’s.
The X factor is the Knights defense and cutting down the penalties. Can the Knights slow down the red hot Golden Eagles offense? The Knights are a year away so they are playing with house money. Next year the Knights will be favored by 21 points.

The Knights QB Kalei Acfalle scored on a 10 yard TD run and threw a 5 yard TD pass to Marcus Fulcher.

The Panthers so far have been the Cinderella team for 2017. The Panthers come off a defense big win over Hanford 8-7. Demario Ennis rushed for 110 yards and scored the only Panthers TD and the Panthers defense did the rest. Oscar Esquivel scored the game winning 2 point play. Dinuba beat El Diamante in overtime 33-30. Lucas Tuttle scored the winning TD in OT. Emperors QB Josh Magana went 17-of-25 passing for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The X factor is the Panthers offense going against a good Emperors defense.

This is the Tigers outstanding defense vs the Rams outstanding offense.
The X factor is the other side of the ball and who plays better. A reminder for the Ram fans, the Tigers defense is light years better than the Memorial defense and the Memorial offense is light years better than the Tigers offense.

The Tigers won an ugly game but they will take it. The Rams with 5 turnovers but credit the Tigers defense. Isaiah Martin rushed for 195 yards and scored a touchdown.  For the Tigers Kwabena Watson returned a 45 yard fumble for a Tigers’ touchdown and QB Jameson Silva hit McKenzie Barnes on a 9 yard TD pass.  

 

Caruthers Blue Raiders (3-0) at Firebaugh Eagles (2-2)

Two explosive offenses come in on fire.
The X factor is the Eagles defense. Can the Blue Raiders offense which is led by QB Jared Gilmore who threw 2 TD passes in the win over Sierra 57-0 score enough to stay with the Eagles? This was child abuse against the weak Eagles defense. For the Blue Raiders to pull off the win, they can’t afford to punt and will have to hold serve on offense and that means score on almost every drive. Firebaugh beat Riverdale 63-31. The Eagles are used to playing in shootouts because the offense is so good and the defense is not.

It’s official…the Blue Raiders are real good! The Pag Meter really missed this pick. The Blue Raiders defense stuffed a pretty good offense. Jared Gilmore went 7-10 for 188 yards and a TD pass. Imanol Arredondo rushed for 89 yards and scored 2 TD’s. Ronaldo Delgado scored 2 TD’s.

The X factor is the Redcats are stuck in the middle. They can beat the teams below them but struggle against the top teams. It will come down to the Fowler defense if they want to make a long playoff run.

Gustavo Rocha scored on a 20 yard TD run with 2:25 to go and the game winner. Redcats QB Martin Plata threw 3 TD’s and scored a TD and the Redcats hang on. 

 

Fresno High Warriors (2-2) vs Madera South Stallions (1-4 )

This has the makings to be a very good game. It’s the NYL vs the CMAC. It would be nice to see the Stallions in the NYL because they should NOT be in the CMAC playing Edison, Bullard and Sanger. The Stallions could be a contender playing in the NYL.
Back to football. Both teams are rebuilding.
The X factor is the Stallions offense and who will be the QB? Stay tuned. This will be a defensive battle.

The Warriors wore down the Stallions. MS with zero offense did what they could with a good defense. The Good news is the Warriors will get at least 2 wins playing in the NYL and the bad news for the Stallions is they won’t win a game in the tough CMAC. The Stallions NEED to play in the NYL.

This is a very good match up and the X factor is the Scots defense vs QB Carl Jones. This game could come down to the final minutes. If Jones goes off….they win.

Kai Caudell rushed for 176 yards and scored 4 TD’s.  Ian Kelly caught a 37 yard TD pass from Payton Allen and scored on a 71 yard TD run. The Blazers rushed for 374 yards. The Monarchs,  Anthony Torres rushed for 96 yards and Isaiah Urban rushed for 140 yards but couldn’t find the end zone.

Kerman Lions (4-1) at McLane Highlanders (0-4)

The Lions come in loaded and the Highlanders are struggling. The matchup is not good for the Highlanders.
The X factor is the Lions have a potential division 1 college QB with Sean Chambers and McLane’s defense will have no answers for slowing big Sean down.

The Patriots and Wolf Pack both come in limping. If it weren’t for the bad officiating in week 1, the Patriots might just be 0-3. Both teams got crushed by Central.
The X factor is the Patriots are a better team right now over Ridgeview. The Pates should roll.

Pag Meter missed this pick and I’m still stumped  that a very good Liberty team has lost 3 straight. Horrible loss for Liberty. Wolf Pack’s, Daelin Degraffenreid had a big night catching 8 passes for 168 yards and scored on the game winning TD.  

 

Corcoran Panthers (0-4) at Liberty Madera Hawks (5-0)

The Hawks are simply a machine. Liberty Madera beat Fowler 55-22. The Redcats had a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter and then the Hawks flew away! The Hawks scored the next 45 straight points. The Hawks, Rylan Howe rushed for 93 yards, and scored 2 TD’s. Kaleb Roth rushed for 128 yards and scored 3 TD’s (5, 30 and 12 yards) Wyatt Roth rushed for 111 yards and scored on a 9 yards TD run.
The Panthers have played tough for 36 minutes in every game and now they get the Machine.

Tahner Green rushed for 114 yards and scored 2 TD’s. (25 and 69 yards) QB Greyson Hoelzel went 7-9 for 140 yards passing. The Hawks had 500 of total offense.

Sierra comes in beat up so the X factor is the home team needs to step up and pull out a win. If Sierra gets healthy , watch out!

Memorial Panthers (5-0) at Sunnyside Wildcats (2-3)

The Panthers offense is almost impossible to slow down. They can run it, they can throw it and they have a very good offensive line. SJM beat Gacces 49-42 so after 4 games, QB Alec Trujillo has thrown for 1,304 Yards and 17 TD passes. RB Leonard Glass has rushed for 539 yards and has scored 6 TD’s. WR Jalen McMillan has caught 28 passes for 660 yards 7 TD passes. Now that’s an offense!!
For the Wildcats they come in after beating Clovis East 21-14. They are so streaky and you never know who will show up. They have yet to play great for 4 quarters. They have played a much tougher schedule than SJM. If the Wildcats can play 4 solid quarters then the NYL will beat the CMAC.
This will be a tough matchup for the Wildcats defense but the X factor is the Panthers defense. SJM plays so many players both ways and you can wear down the SJM defense. The big problem for the Wildcats is nobody has slowed down the Panthers offense yet. The Wildcats O needs to play out of their minds to win.

Head coach Anthony Goston wins his 100th career game and WR Nick DiCeglie made the catch of the year with an over the shoulder superman 25 yard TD from QB Alec Trujillo. Dashawn Holliman score 2 TD’s (5 and 7 yards),  Jalen McMillan  caught a 30 yard TD pass from Trujillo. Leonard Glass scored  2 TD’s (2 & 18 yards)  Jordan Smith recovered a TD in the end zone for a SJM TD. 

 

Roosevelt Rough Riders (3-2) at Selma Bears (5-0)

The Rough Riders have been gearing up for the Bears since August. Roosevelt isn’t good enough yet to look ahead especially when they got physically beat up in the loss to Mendota but that’s exactly what happened. The Riders have the talent to win this game.
The Bears are 4-0 and haven’t played their best yet but it’s coming….
The X factor is the Rough Riders play calling and QB Jordan De La Rosa. Can the Riders defense hang against the defending division 4 champions and QB Junior Ramirez?

It’s official…the Bears are back playing Bears football. The defense stuffed the Riders all night long. Jacob Martinez scored on a 6-yard run, Junior Ramirez scored on a 3-yard TD and Tiveon Stroud is eligible again, scored on a 4-yard run.

The Red Hot Tribe come off a bye and the Falcons come off a big win over South. I’m sure all week the Falcons have been watching the Tribe’s game films and going Holy Moly they are good.

Kazmeir Allen had a night! Kaz took the opening kickoff back 92 yards for a TD. Allen gained a total of 267 yards from scrimmage (193 receiving, 74 rushing), including 5 total touchdowns of 92, 80, 66, 51 and 42 yards. QB Nathan Lamb finished with 316 passing yards and 5 touchdowns on only 11 completions and the defense beat up the Falcons.

Last year the Rebels beat the Mustangs 42-25 and the Mustangs have not forgotten. The Mustangs are led by sophomore QB Elijah Burrell (700 yards passing, 6 TD’s), senior RB David Alcantar (287 yards rushing, 61 yards receiving, 3 TD’s) and junior receiver Keshon Butler (19 catches, 565 yards receiving, 6 TDs)

Mr Mustangs David Alcantar rushed for 102 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. The Mustangs shut it down at halftime with a 42-0 lead. Keshon Butler started the show with a 95 yard kickoff return for a TD. Butler finished with 3 catches for 77 yards and QB Elijah Burrell was 12-of-21 for 150 yards and 3 touchdown passes including a 46 yarder to Butler.

Saturday Night Football Final

Central Grizzlies (4-1) at De La Salle Spartans (4-1)

The Red Hot Grizzlies travel and take on the 2nd biggest private professional high school in the country. Except for Bishop Gorman, nobody recruits like De La Salle.
The Grizzlies really step up their program by playing the Spartans. The Grizzlies are the valley best by far and it’s not even close.
The problem could be for the Grizzlies is they are so good crushing Bullard, Sunnyside, Liberty, and Ridgeview is that they haven’t played a real good team as of yet to get them ready for this game.
De La Salle has been playing other private professional high schools so it’s just another game for the Spartans.
By far the Grizzlies have the best traveling crowd in the valley so there will be plenty of Grizzlies fans in Concord.
For the Grizzlies to win on the road, they have to forget they are playing a DE LA SALLE team that it so well known. That’s easier said than done. The Grizzlies will be nervous but they have to play Grizzlies football and that is fast football and flying to the ball.
The Grizzlies QB Trent Tompkins is a gunslinger and will not be intimidated. Trent needs to do his thing. If Trent gets hot…watch out!
The Grizzlies offense has to come in with an attitude and has to hold serve when they have the ball because the Spartans offense is a machine that runs about 6-10 plays and they run them so well. Hold serve means the Grizzlies can’t afford to punt much because De La Salle is not used to punting. 
The X factor is can Tre Walker and the Grizzlies defense be on their game? The Grizzlies have to know their assignments and be in the right spots to make the tackles. Central can’t give up the big play.
The toughest question is how good is Central around the rest of the state? We all know how good Central is here in the valley. Is Central light years better than anybody in the Central Section? I guess we will all find out on Saturday because if the Grizzlies win or battle with the professional Spartans, that means valley football is on the rise. 
The Grizzlies can hang with the speed, so this game will come down to the Grizzlies defense and their ability to slow down the run game of De La Salle. 
The BIG X factor is that the Spartans are battle tested and the Grizzlies are not. The Grizzlies defense has to get the Spartans in 3rd and long and not 3rd in short yardage situations.
If you want to make a comparison…This is Fresno State playing at No 1 Alabama. The big difference is Fresno State had zero chance at beating Bama and Central has a shot! I can see this game going in so many different directions. The Grizzlies need to get off to a great start. The Spartans secondary is beatable so watch for Grizzlies WR Jacob Torrez to have a big game. 

Side note-Clovis West defeated De La Salle by a score of 30-12 on Sept. 11, 2004.
That ended a state-record 75-game home winning streak by De La Salle and came a week after Bellevue, Wash (Clovis Cougars, QB Payton Mayer’s Dad Kurt, was the Bellevue offensive coordinator), stopped De La Salle’s national-record 151-game win streak.
The Spartans have won 7 state bowl championships and reaching the state open division final last season.

The Grizzlies hung in for the most part. 10 sacks and 2 big turnovers didn’t help. The Grizzlies can play with one of the best in the country.
