Stallion Atheletic’s Have A Successful Week

Madera South Football Celebrates Their Win!
Stallion Athletics have had a successful week! Friday, September 8th MSHS Varsity Football had a historic first win with Coach Johnson, with a score of 20-7 vs Hoover High School. I was even able to sneak in an exclusive with Head Coach Johnson who said, “The bounce back is right, we just have to keep getting better. We have to bounce into the offense and keep our defense and special teams rolling. But we got to find some consistency and let’s hope that all the Stallions show up to practice when they’re supposed to be there and park in some more buy-ins and we can get things going in a good way.” During the game, Coach Johnson made a point to join in and begin to encourage the Stallion Storm Student Section to stay hyped up and involved in the game. When I asked about his thoughts on the student section he said, “I love them, I want them to know that, you know, not only am I an excitable guy and have energy and all that, but I want the fans to know we appreciate the heck out of them for coming out and supporting us. We support them, that’s just my way everywhere I coach, I like to kind of get the crowd going a little bit.” Next, Stallion Football will be playing at Golden West, September 14th at 7:30 PM.
Cross Country also had very exciting times at the Kingsburg 2 Mile Race! Co-Captain, Seth Garcia, came out with a 1st place win in the Senior Boys race with a time of 9:25.09. Next, crossing the finish line in 1st place for the Junior Boys Race came Victor Ochoa with a time of 9:41.26. In the Senior Girls race captain, Veronica Ortega did a tremendous job getting 2nd place, running an 11:37.6. In the Junior Girls Race, came Perla Jimenez speeding in 3rd place with a time of 12:22.7. XC will next take on the Early Bird Invitational at Toro Park in Salinas, CA September 16 at 9 AM.
Congratulations to Girls Water Polo for placing 1st at the Lemoore Tournament September 8-9th! Boys Water Polo finished with a loss vs. Yosemite on September 12th with a score of 8-6. But, Captain Samuel Garcia #8 says,” Well, so far the team is in great shape. Best I’ve seen a Madera South Water Polo team play. With a record of 4-6 we will continue to grow and hopefully win some more games.” Girls Water Polo also finished with a loss of 7-3 vs Yosemite. Both teams will be able to have a rematch at Yosemite High School Thursday, September 14th. Come out and support Water Polo, with their next, following home games against Bullard High School Tuesday, September 19th at 3:30, 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30.
Girls tennis went head to head with Edison High School Tuesday, September 12th but did not come out with a win. But, when I asked Captain Elisabeth “Tommy” Cervantes about how the team is doing so far this season, how the girls get along, and how she believes they will continue to do, she said,” The girls are a lot more united, first of all, because nobody is fighting there’s no beef between anyone. We are a lot better, we have already won more games than we did last season, even in exhibitions. With the way we are going, I think we will do pretty good because we are out there a lot more often, we’re training a lot harder, and there are a lot more girls that are willing to work at it. Instead of messing around, there are people actually willing to do stuff.” Thursday, September 14th Girls Tennis will be at Sanger High School at 3 PM for another league face off. Following that the Girls will be matched up against Memorial High School at MSHS, September 19th at 3 PM, so come out and cheer on those backhands!
Volleyball will be having their next home game Thursday, September 14th vs Reedley High School. Then they will be having the Madera Varsity Classic at Madera South High School, So come out and support our girls, September 15-16th!
Good luck to all the Stallions in their coming week!!
