Central Off To A 2-0 Start

The Grizzlies crushed their second game of the season against the Sunnyside Wildcats with a 56-6 win last Friday. The Grizzlies are proving to be an intimidating, early-season contender.

Entering this game with some well-earned confidence after their 44-6 win against the Bullard Knights, the Grizzly offense put up 35 points in the first two quarters. The Wildcats struggled to regroup only to be routed back by 21 more points in the second half. When the dust settled, Central’s win was made even more impressive by the fact that they suffered no penalties throughout the entirety of the game.
The Grizzlies have been building offensive momentum thanks to junior QB Trent Tompkins, who hasn’t even finished out a game due to his 6 TDs and 431 passing yards this season. The 3 star QB has also rushed over 100 hundred yards for a touchdown.
Tomkins isn’t the only one getting the job done this season as senior RB Jevon Biglow has rushed for 2 touchdowns covering over 200 hundred yards with only 15 carries. Senior WR Jacob Torrez has 8 catches for 2 TDs at over 250 yards.

With one of the best offenses in the valley, the Central defense has also earned their share of accolades. Led by senior MLB Tre Walker who has accomplished 12 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 1 interception this year, the Grizzly offense is a force to be reckoned with. Senior DL Marcus Washington has chipped in with 13 tackles and 3 sacks as well.
Overall, the Central defense has only allowed 6 points in 8 quarters along with garnering 13 sacks and 4 interceptions in just two games.
Regardless, the “Friday Night” Central defense will have to hone their strategies to stop a possible running-game from Liberty High with respect to the 39 times the Patriots successfully ran the ball against Clovis West for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Central depth will be key on this upcoming Friday. All eyes will be on the well-matched junior QBs Isaiah Hill and Trent Tompkins. The Liberty defense will have to watch out for the seamless Tompkins and Torrez dynamic and don’t be surprised if Trent Tompkins has another big game. The 3 star QB loves the bright light, has started the season strong and already looks like one of the best QBs in the valley.
Both teams love to run the ball so this will be an exciting battle starting at the scrimmage line.
Kick-off is at 7 p.m. @ Deran Koligian Stadium. This will be a game to watch for all high school football fans.
