The Grizzlies kicked off their football season against the Bullard Knights this past Friday and looked phenomenal with a 44-0 blowout win in honor of past Central football coach Justin Garza.

With no time to waste against this tough Valley rival, Central quickly gained a 14 to 0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Refusing to stop there, their dominant offense racked up 23 points in the second quarter, taking a commanding 37 to 0 lead at the half.
This seemingly unstoppable offense was led by 3 star junior QB Trent Tompkins who threw for 4 touchdowns and 231 yards. Not only did the dual threat QB make plays by completing passes, he also ran for 112 yards on 7 carries for 1 touchdown.
Tompkins worked in tandem with explosive senior WR Jacob Torrez who had 2 touchdowns on 5 catches for 170 yards. Senior RB Diotry Brewer also delivered a solid game with 4 carries for 48 yards and 1 touchdown.

But the Central offense wasn’t the only thing on point. Their defense was clicking on all cylinders, holding the Knights to 0 points in a shutout game. Senior MLB Tre Walker made big contributions with 12 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and one forced fumble. Senior DL Marcus Washington also made an impact with 6 total tackles, 2 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
The 2017 Grizzlies look like they’re in mid-season form and this is just the beginning. On Friday, the Sunnyside Wildcats, who blew a 19 point lead last week against Clovis North will be facing the Grizzlies. They’ll clearly have a lot to handle from this team.
