Madera South High School is off to a fantastic start for the 2017-2018 school year! On August 18, Seniors of all kinds, Athletes, Band and Choir Members, Straight A Students, Club Members, etc. gathered together for Senior Sunrise. The first senior event of the year to write down a personal goal, stick it to a balloon and watch it fly away to represent the beginning of the end to their high school experience. On August 31st MSHS and MHS will be hosting the NAACP rally at MSHS to help encourage young students to stay in school and follow any dreams they may have because they can do anything they want in life when having the proper mind set.

On August 18th MSHS Football had their first scrimmage vs. Washington Union, although neither team were keeping score, Madera South’s defense, having had 3 takeaways, was a major asset for the team, also Madera South’s offense was performing well. By having quarterback Steven Alaniz complete majority of his passes, this year’s football season appears to be getting off to a great start. Their first official game will be August 25th vs. Pacheco High School, in Pacheco, the first official game for their new football coach and Pag Meter’s radio partner, Matt Johnson. Football Player, Enrique Rodriguez believes this year’s team has a great mindset and is all on the same page to work together and push each other to become better as a whole.

Thursday, August 17th, MSHS Girls Volleyball faced Liberty High School at MSHS. Having good defense was an important role for staying in the game and having their offense come through during the 3rd and 4th set was a major plus to the team’s overall score. Although the team lost 1-3, Outside Hitter #8, Aleecia Rosel says, “If our defense keeps working hard, we can be really good as long as our offense plays along with them.” Their next game will be at Madera South High School vs. Sunnyside August 24th, JV at 4:00 and Varsity at 5:30.

Girls Water Polo started off their season with a scrimmage vs. Kerman High School and was able to come out with a win of 22-2. Boys Water Polo also came on top with a win of 16-3 vs. Kerman High School. Their next game will be August 24th away vs. Selma High School.
