- The Drillers finish the year as the No 1 team over Sanger because of strength of schedule.
- With the scored tied 14-14, Josh Maran hit Navonte Demison on a 3 yard TD pass with 3:16 to go and the game winner.
- Paul Golla, wins his 5th title in 12 years at BHS.
- Bakersfield, Shane Jones scores on a 3 yard TD run to tie it up. Josh Maran scores on a 2 yard TD run to make the scored 14-7 Drillers.
No 2 Sanger Apaches (13-1) (5-0 CMAC Champions)
- The division 2 section champions for the 8th time
- Lost to Serra 49-28
- Beat Ridgeview 20-10
- Andrew Azua rushed for 231 yards and scored 2 TD’s and the Apaches defense played outstanding.
- The Apaches have now won 8 championships overall. Chuck Shidan has won 4 section championships (1998, 2001, 2003, 2016)
- The Apaches get the No 2 ranking because they beat Bullard and Bullard beat Central.
No 3 Central Grizzlies (11-2) (5-0 TRAC Champions)
- Lost to Bakersfield 21-14
- Central had to play 2 very tough and physical playoff games and fell short at home. Central scored first when Trent Tompkins hit Malik White on a 8 yard TD pass and it was 7-0 Central at the half.
- Jevon Bigelow scored on a 80 yard TD.
- Trent Tompkins finished his remarkable sophomore year throwing for 3,118 yards and 36 TD’s.
No 4 Liberty Patriots (8-4) (4-1 SWYL)
- Lost to Bakersfield 44-34
- The Patriots had a 28-27 lead at the half. Isaiah Hill threw for 215 yards and Sammy Stewart ran for 116 yards and a touchdown
No 5 Clovis West Golden Eagles (8-4) (4-1 TRAC)
- Lost to Central 34-28 in OT
- I’m thinking the Golden Eagles would love to have overtime over again because the CW offense didn’t look like the CW offense. Adrian Martinez threw for 262 yards and 2 TD passes and rushed for 142 yards and scored 2 TD’s. His 68-yard TD pass to Rodney Wright on third-and-10 tied it, 28-28, with 9:37 remaining. Wright, finished with 5 catches for 109 yards.
- Adrian Martinez finished the year throwing for 2,562 yards and 25 TD passes. Rushed for 1,462 and scored 14 TD’s.
No 6 Clovis Cougars (7-4) (2-3 TRAC)
- Lost to Clovis West 42-28
- I have been waiting 5 years for this Cougars power offense and it was outstanding! The offense ran down hill and RB Samir Allen rushed for 307 yards and scored 4 TD’s but the defense couldn’t hold the lead.
- Samir Allen finished the year rushing for 1,465 yards and scored 14 TD’s.
No 7 Clovis North Broncos (6-6) (2-3 TRAC)
- Lost to Liberty 33-28
- The Broncos got down 21-0 and stormed back only to lose on a bad snap. QB Brent Bailey had a fantastic game throwing for 303 yards and rushed for 106 yards, including a 29-yard touchdown run. Jordan Ayerza caught a beautiful a 71-yard touchdown pass.
- For the year, Bailey had 3,150 of total yards with 27 TD’s.
No 8 Garces Rams (7-4) (3-2 SWYL)
- Lost to El Diamante 29-28
- The Miners scored to make it 28-27 Rams, El D went for the win going for the 2-points!! Miners QB Parker Boswell scored on a 1-yard run with 33 seconds left to cut Garces’ lead to 28-27 and then seconds later fired a game-winning 2-point conversion pass completion. The Miners 3-headed rushing attack of Tyler Youngblood, DeVonte Freeman, and Drake Beano totaled 180 yards on 42 attempts and keeping the Rams offense off the field.
No 9 Edison Tigers (5-7) (4-1 CMAC)
- Lost to Central 24-19
- Tigers got down 21-0 and battled back and showed plenty of heart.
- Edison had 8-15 yard penalties, roughed the punter, 3 turnovers and still had a chance to win.
- Tigers Jaylan King scored 2 TD’s and Taylin Green’s 40-yard fumble return. QB Shareef Goodwin did a nice a job against a very good Central defense.

No 10 Ridgeview Wolf Pack (7-6) (4-1 SYL Tri-Champions)
- Lost to Sanger 20-10
- The Wolf Pack have played in 6 straight section championships and have on 3 of them
No 11 Buchanan Bears (7-5) (2-3 TRAC)
- Lost to Bakersfield 44-14
- Nolan LeForge threw 2 TD passes. (Jack Wilkins in the 2nd quarter and to Blake Wells in the 4th quarter.
No 12 Bullard Knights (5-6) (3-2 CMAC)
- Lost to Buchanan 30-9
- The Knights QB Jack Taylor finished his career as the all time leader for completions in Bullard history with 285. Head coach Donnie Arax will be back coaching the Knights
No 13 Bakersfield Christian Eagles (13-2) (6-0 S Seq Champions)
- The Division 3 Section Champions
- Lost to Campolindo 31-7
- Beat Selma 28-27
- Beat Tulare Western 53-19
- Red hot Braden Wingle threw for 323 yards and 4 touchdowns and BC crushed TW.
- The Eagles have now won 4 section championships
No 14 Selma Bears (13-1) (5-0 CSL Champions)
- The division 4 Section Champions
- Lost to Bakersfield Christian 28-27
- Beat Chowchilla 35-7
- The Bears defense is so good only allowing 158 yards. Junior Ramirez completed 8 of 13 passes for 182 yards and 4 touchdowns.
- The Bears have now won 4 section championships and last went 13-0 in 1980.
No 15 Chowchilla Redskins (10-2) (3-1 NSL Tri-champions)
- Lost to Selma 35-7
- The Redskins played their last game as the Redskins. (Sad). It’s now the Tribe.
No 16 Golden West Trailblazers (10-2) (5-1 WYL)
- Lost to to Chowchilla 26-24
- The Blazers thought the game was over with an incomplete pass but the officials said put 1 second on the clock and the rest is history. QB Payton Allen threw 3 TD passes. (Ian Kelly 45 yards, Christian Ortiz, 5 yards and Robert Ortega 44 yard TD catch)
No 17 Sunnyside Wildcats (9-3) (5-0 NYL Champions)
- Lost to Sanger 56-9
- Playing in the NYL is so much different than playing in the CMAC and the Wildcats found out the hard way.
- Senior QB Nate Hughes finished the year throwing for 1,854 yards and 22 TD passes
No 18 Redwood Rangers (9-2) (5-1 WYL Champions)
- Lost to Ridgeview 42-21
- Ridgeview limited Redwood to 172 yards of total offense.
- Frankie Ayon threw 3 TD passes. (14 yards to Kobe Garner) (14 yards to Hector Gonzalez) (16 yards to Michael Harris III)
No 19 Tulare Union Redskins-Tribe (9-2) (5-0 WYL Champions)
- Lost to Sunnyside 66-55
- Kazmeir Allen rushed for 194 yards, 31 receiving yards and scored 3 touchdowns. Nathan Lamb threw for 321 yards and 5 touchdowns. Emoryie Edwards had 169 receiving yards and scored 3 touchdowns.
No 20 Stockdale Mustangs (6-5) (2-3 SWYL)
- Lost to Edison 35-14
- Jacob Ruley caught a 34 yard TD pass from Jalen Smith and threw a 10 yard TD pass to Elisha Ortiz.
No 21 Tulare Western Mustangs (9-4) (4-1 EYL)
- Lost to Bakersfield Christian 53-19
- Senior QB Andre Aguilar finished the year throwing for 2,187 yards, 21 TD’s and rushed for 982 yards and scored 14 TD’s.
No 22 Hanford Bullpups (7-5) (4-2 WYL)
- Lost to Tulare Western 39-16
- Jordan Perryman scored on a 67 yard TD run and QB Theron Dutra hit Perryman on a 43 yard TD pass but the defending state champs couldn’t do anything else. QB Ryan Johnson has not played all year because of a knee injury still got kicked out of the game for coming off the bench and kicking a TW player.
No 23 Memorial Panthers (7-6) (3-2 CMAC)
- Lost to to Bakersfield Christian 41-35
- The Panthers jumped out 21-7 early. Alec Trujillo scored on a 4 yard TD run, Demarcus Wilson scored 2 TD’s including a 80 yard TD run. Dashawn Holliman scored on a scored on a 2 yard TD run and Alec Trujillo’s 32-yard pass to Michael Alvarez was the scoring.
No 24 El Diamante Miners (6-6) (3-3 WYL)
- Lost to Ridgeview 46-14
- The Miners had 0 points, only 35 net yards and five first downs until the final 5 minutes of the fourth quarter.
No 25 Mendota Aztecs (13-0) (5-0 WSL Champions) at Amador (Sutter Creek) (13-1) (5-1 Mother Lode)
- The Division 5 Section Champions
- Beat Firebaugh 50-22
- Marquez Navarro rushed for 132 yards and scored on TD runs of 42, 18 and 71 yards. Fabian Jasso caught 4 TD passes from Junior Cardenas. (19, 11 42 and 21 yards)
- The Aztecs have now won 3 section Championships. Division 6 (2011 and 2012)
